awesome! thank you very much!
cung le is one of my faves
i hope he climbs the ladder, hes so talented.
and he's vietnamese!!
ive been waiting for him debut for awhile now.
thanks again.
He is the most overrated San SHou fighter ever... probably because he is the only north american person to do it... I train with a guy that went to worlds at the same time as Kung Lee in San Shou, and he has never won worlds because both the russians and chinese absolutely destroyed him.
Cung Le is an astonishing athlete. A perfect example of balance and focused power. :o
Seems like a nice enuff guy, I but I personally cant stand him. He fights opponents who are completely overmatched and have little to no Expierence in his odd little way of fighting, with its crazy rule set. He scissors tackles guys and gets points and does all this crazy shat, but let him go against a skilled striker and grappler in either King of the Cage, UFC or Pride and he will get his ass handed to him.
San Sho is fighting with no submissions... it was actually a no holds barred version of fighting minus the submissions. So I like it more unless I was watching a submission special.Quote:

he'll get rocked against someone real. San Shou is a joke. as someone said before, he fights guys who don't train in it and gets points with moves that inflict absolutely zero damage. There are even times when he'll get the point with his little scissor take down but it looks like HE actually got the worst of it.
Exactly. It's BS IMO.Quote:

that enough proves he's a talented fighter
we'll see how he does in MMA
so far he's won both his matches by K.O.
so fukk all you haters
this guy is gonna make a name for himself
oh and you guys talkin about sanshou being a joke??
haha, anyone could and has said the same thing about wrestling and BBJ

I can box guys who have never boxed before ever, and have no expierence or very little expierence then claim I am a bad ass too. But WTF would that prove?!Quote:

if you're wondering why i like him so much it's because he's got talent oozing out of his pores and we share the same nationality.
why do you hate him so much anyway?
and yes i know pierre would tear him apart because he's MUCH MUCH more experienced
you are obviously a hater because i think everyone else can agree that cung is talented and has the potential to make a name for himself in MMA.
people here dislike him cuz they feel he was fighting people who were completley helpless under the san sho rules, i dont care tho, those sicors tak downs are bad ass, and it looks like he is trying to learn how to fight without take downs, which will help him expand, i think he has some potential, i think he is hesitant to take people down in MMA cuz he wouldnt know what to do with them on the floor, if he learns how to mount effectivley he can become real dangerous...
i think he would be better off trying to learn a saku kick or a stomp, once a guy goes down he could just kick the fuck out of thier head
I've seen this guy once before on FSN or ESPN. He looked good in that vid. But his opponent looked hand picked. He didn't pressure him, was wide open for the kicks, never attempted to take the guy down. In my limited training when dealing with an opponent known for his kicks you should close the distance and take away the advantage. Cung kicks were very fast and accurate but I'd want to see how he dealt with a fighter putting more pressure on him and how he defended the takedown and fought from the ground.
For the record, I don't hate the guy. He does have immense talent in his sport. BUT, nobody does it and it makes him look so much better. The points he scores inflict NO PAIN WHATSOEVER!! I'm just saying, san shao (or however it's spelled) will prove absolutely useless against a formidable MMA opponent. Just like crap like kung fu, TKD, etc. Those arts are only effective again those who are also using them.
i've heard that cung's been working on his ground game
i read that in his 2nd MMA match, it was on the ground
they got back up and cung knocked the guy out
but yes, i'd like to see how well he does on the ground as well
lots of people are saying it looks like his opponents are handpicked
well what can you expect, the guy has only had 2 MMA matches himself
you can't expect him to fight the best
he's fighting people with the same amount of experience as him and he's making them look light years behind him.
at this rate, he could be great..... but once again
it will depend on how well his ground game is because we all know his stand up is amazing
I could be mistaken, but werent both his victories against kickboxers that he had already beaten in San Shou matches pretty handily? (I know his first definately was, not positive on the 2nd)
on a complete tanget....when I first saw this topic I thought it was about the girl from the video game Street Fighter. wasn't her name cung le? Anyway glad that wasn't the case.
her name was Chung Lee. And they kick about the same ;) But she was much faster.
It's amazing how he (cung le) hasn't tried to use any of his san shao moves or takedowns in his two mma fights. It's like even he knows it's a useless fighting style in a real situation.
Von, thats intersting. By him not using his moves in MMA matches already shows an abilty to adapt to new rules and situations. That in itself is noteworthy. Specially since no other fighter could apprently adapt to San Sho rules. Also two wins in MMA by KO is an accomplishent in itself, Moreover coming from a sport that goes by a point system. And his kicks doing "no damage"..tell that to teh guys he KO'D
he's defo got talent for what he does, but we'll see how his "real fighting" skills are when he's put to a real test against a legit UFCer.
I'm not exactly familiar with weight classes but a good firt match for him might be a guy like Mike Swick or Robbie Lawler.
definlty a good match up would love to see Robbie go at it with chung
It'd be good for Robbie, too, cuz he's been doing pretty piss poor lately. Cung, while new to MMA, is a relatively well known name in the martial arts world because of his San Shou prowess.
Cung Le, on the other hand, is new enough to MMA that a loss to a relatively big name won't hurt his career much, while Robbie is a large enough name to lend some credibility to Cung Le, should Le win the fight.
Swick might be a good match up too.
here's his 2nd fight
it shows some ground fighting
a nice move too hahaha

Cung looked good there, but man did his opponent suck. Can't take anything away from CL he had a great takedown, did well in the guard and finished the fight like he was supposed to, but man that guy was awful.
cung should work on his ground and pound as well as his blocking (you cant dodge them all)
CUNG LE HAS TAKEN THE STRIKEFORCE TITLE
hopefully the fight will online soon :D
Haha...yeah, from what I read on sherdog, it was a quick and easy fight for him. Jason Von Flue isn't exactly an elite MMAist, but he's definately no slouch either. Things could be looking up for Cung in the future.
HERE ARE SOME VIDEOS OF THE FIGHT :D
