Beckhams always been overated in my opinion, the only thing that made him stand out was free kick ability, and it seems that now thats gone he doesnt have much else left.
'Fraid so - he was always a one trick pony. No great pace, not a good dribbler, no left foot, couldn't tackle, couldn't head the ball.
But he was a brilliant striker of a dead ball, and a great crosser.
If that starts to go, he is nothing (at the highest level anyway)
he isnt a 1 trick pony.
he has better vision than anyone.

Lets see if Mclaren has any real balls, it should be a new era now out with some of the old in with the new, i cant see Beckham at 33 playing at euro 2008, so i wouldnt have him in the squad we need to be trying the youngsters now he has been in the team 10 years great servant but his time is up, we have Shauny Wright and Arron Lennon, who both are more effective.
Mclaren needs to work to our strenghts instead of playing the cautious game, lets see a new era of football where we go for it.
I don't think McLaren will be the revolutionary manager that we need after 5 years of banal and meaningless Ericsson platitudes.
Tactically, he will be the same as Sven. If he is not, then he has been betraying himself by working under Sven and supporting his tactics for years.
Gerrard should be the next Captain.

I think it was more to do with the fact it was emotional, only just written, hardly rehearsed and he was very nervous...couple that along with trying to hold back tears and you try and read out a hand written statement to the worlds media on how you are giving up something you love dearly.
