referees watch this!!!
as you lot may have figured i am a big boxing fan aswell as a big no holds barred fighting fan aka vale tudo aka mixed martial arts!
i like boxing but recently its got me bored. only the big fights really excite me nowadays in boxing.
MMA is alot more exciting recently. in PRIDE FC they are having a open weight tournament where all weights can fight each other!
there is a fighter by the name of wanderlei silva, LHW champ. P4P THE BEST fighter on the planet, the guys a multi dimentional striker, ferocious guy. standing in at 5'11.
on the 1st of july was the second round of the tourney, with 8 fighters left. silva was fighting a guy by the name of fujita, aka iron head. it is medically proven that THIS GUYS SKULL IS THICKER THAN NORMAL HUMANS! this guy outweights silva by over 30 pounds!!!!
he was never floored before in his career before with a punch, (once by fedors kick to liver) he's fought the best of heavyweights, crocop, ken shamrock, n recently the massive giant james thompson, who he knocked out.
he also has a knockout punch.
When i first learned that silva was fighting fujita i thought " sh1t. silva migh t get beat"
anyways, REFEREE'S - i posted an article about referee's stopping fights too early, well after watching this awesome highlight of the silva vs fujita fight, i know i did the right thing,
watch fujita crawl whilst his opponent be's kicking his head!
silva is a ferocious fighter who is most probably win the OWGP. the guy is a vicious striker, honestly, he has ko power and ultra exciting!
do you find this more exciting or what!!!?!?!?!

I respect your views, but watching pride fighting reminds me of reckless abandon, Bar room fight kind of thing. technique suffers and hitting opponents while they are down seems un sporting , Hell I don’t want to kill somebody in the ring . But that’s just my opinion
-
Re: referees watch this!!!
MMA is a sport just like boxing. you have to have years of training innit, if you jus go into a pride ring or ufc octagon you will prob jus get submitted.
Watching a fast paced fighter like wanderlei silva does make it look quite scary, but fun to watch.
if a boxing official was the ref of this match he would have stopped the fight in the first 45 seconds!
referees need to be like that so it gives the loosing fighter more chance to recover.
IF WANDERLEI HAD GIVEN FUJITA 5-8 SECONDS, THAT TOUGH NUT JAPANESE WOULD HAVE RECOVERED NO DOUBT.
btw fujita was never floored before this fight, he got floored like 2/3 times by silva a LHW. big heavys like shamrock who hit fujita 30 times without success and thompson who couldnt hurt fujita....WHAT AN AWESOME FIGHT!

So he was showing Ronaldo how to kick a soccer ball?
Yes that fight was stopped I saw it tonight. It made me mad.. considering how early the other fights had been stopped.
-
Re: referees watch this!!!
one thing i have noticed about pride fc is that they give the hometown fighter (japanese) more chance to recover.
Fujita took THEM KICKS WITHOUT GETTING KO'D he was very close to blacking out, silva looked like a caged animal! i havent seen him that ferocious since his fights with jackson, saku etc.
all the boxing fans should check out the mma fights, there are some big, exciting match ups! i mean im a fan of both!
-
Re: referees watch this!!!
I respect your opinion about MMa style fights, but to me it just looks like a supervised bar brawl. I know there is some technique and everything, but it stills looks like a supervised brawl. IMO if you can strike an opponent while he is on the ground then its not very sporting.

Re: referees watch this!!!
MMA fighters don't die in the ring. Boxers die all the time. Refs have to be ready to stop beatings, even at the cost of a dissatisfied fan who only wants watch people get their skulls cracked and teeth knocked out.

I'm sure Belforts opponent shared your opinion.

Re: referees watch this!!!
actually belforts fight was stopped at the right time, perfect. but watch the crocop and silva fight, they went a bit over the line! 8)

Re: referees watch this!!!
I just can't get into it... scrappy from the opening bell.

Re: referees watch this!!!
how could you not get excited by watching mma, HOW ,HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW???!?!?!?!!?
even roy jones jr watches mma, so does mike tyson and zab judah etc, i am a big boxing fan but mma is alot more exciting, fast paced and anything could happen. many ways to win , ko, tko, submission, ko standing or on the ground, sub standing or on the ground, thats why when you get two good fighter in the ring, it is usually the one that gets the advantage first that wins, if we're lucky sometimes it turns into a proper thriller!
there are discussions going on about silva fighting CROCOP, jus by reading these dscussions makes you wwanna watch the fights even more...

The main thing for me is that in boxing you feel you are watcing elite athletes (for the most part) who a practising a skilled craft. With MMA I get the impression that it's organised by a mixture of reality tv and ex WWF promoters who decided to make a 'cool' really violent sport purely to appeal to the mindless masses, kind of like Bumfights on a bigger scale.
I don't regard any of the sport's 'stars' as athletes in a professional sense. Chuck Liddell looks to me more like a bouncer or a builder that likes to get involved in a dust up at the weekends.
Mildy entertaining but not a proper sport in my opinion.

I agree with you bilbo, there is just something about mma that is unsportsman.

Is he really Brazilian , I thought that referred to the fact he is a bald cunt?

Re: referees watch this!!!
byt the way there is amatuer mma.
forget the olympic thing by the way.
i have just checked an mma forum and it is also mentioned about the hbo deal!!
there isnt enogh money in ufc, there is more in pride tho.
how could you call mma Rubbish???
it has better fighters, = better fights, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF THE FANS WANT TWO FIGHTERS TO FIGHT, THEY WILL FIGHT, NON OF THIS ' down the line...bigga n betta.'
boxing is good but i think mma is better, you guys havent followed mma properly and your commenting on it like its bull. BACK THEN (10 YEARS AGO) THE FIGHTS WERE BRAWLS WITH HARDLY ANYONE KNOWING GRAPPLING, NOW IT IS TECHNICAL BUT STILL BRUTAL, THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE!
mma in a fews years will surpass boxing in $$$ and popularity for the reasons above!
if you hear the discussions about the fights on mma forums, it really hypes you up cos anything could happen! different opinions!
i am a big fan of both and IN MY OPINION MMA IS MUCH MORE EXCITING TO WATCH AND YOU GET THE FIGHTS YOU WANT. all of you lot have been crying about mayweather to fight hatton or margarito or cotto...I N MMA THAT FIGHT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!!!!
when i show you a clip of these fights, secretly you are EXCITED AND ARE LOVING IT, BUT YOU THEN SAY ITS JUST A SUPERVISED BRAWL COS YOU CANT ADMIT ITS BETTA THAN BOXING TO WATCH!
SUPERFIGHTS? there have been loads over the past two years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lmao you make me laugh!
btw dont talk crap about something you dont know.
enough said ! ;)

Re: referees watch this!!!
I don't get it either. Maybe there is skill involved, but it seems like just a brawl to me. I can't see the technique, nor can I see how someone trains for this type of a anything goes fight.
Have there been many in ring deaths from this type of fighting? If boxing has it's critics I can't imagine how this type of sport has made it so far...

Re: referees watch this!!!
nah not in boxing, lmao he has the power to knock any boxer out though, he is a ferocious power puncher, jus look what he done to fujita, who has a skull medically proven to be thicker than average,
the guy has never been floored, silva done it like 4 times.
i like the way he punches! he knockes ppl out, you dont punch to look goodd...or do ya? ???

First and foremost your talking about two different animals here. They are in the same family but different animals all together. If you put a mma fighter in a boxing ring he would get KOed, same if you put a boxer in a mma ring he would get KOed. The technique is different in each, boxing is setting up your shots and maintaining control.
I have watched a few mma stuff and I personally dont like it. I know there is skill and athleticism involved but I it still just looks like a supervised bar brawl. With boxing I can see and appreciate the skill invovled in what they are trying to do. I cant say or do that with any type of mma.

Re: referees watch this!!!
horrible punching hmm, a pro boxer by the name of chris lights out lytle, unbeaten boxer at the time, got battered in a stand up fist fight against robbie lawler.
what i like about mma fighters is that there is a variety. you get strikers, jus grapplers, punchers, ko kickers \(crocop) knockout punchers (silva) THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT STYLES OF THE WAY PEOPLE FIGHT, YOU JUS CANT WAIT FOR EM TO FIGHT!
boxing does sometimes get boring unless its a big fight (live)

Chris WHO?
Oh KO kickers...that is so fucking gay...yeah I can't beat you like a man so I'm going to kick you.
That Silva dude would get CRUSHED in a boxing match

Re: referees watch this!!!
fight like men, take away the rules. thats how it was in the first place. silva will whoop any boxer in a fight no doubt, in fact he is the best p4p fighter in the world ,HELL he'll whoop any man on the planet, ;D

how can he whoop any man on the planet when he has 2 recent losses in 2004,2005
If he gets matched up with cro cop, he will be in a very tough fight just like the first time they fought each other
silva, cro cop, barnnet, rodrigo are the ones that are left in the tournament, any one of them can win the tournament, but i think barnett has the least chance since he already lost twice to cro cop

Re: referees watch this!!!
he had two recent losses?
mark hunt and ricardo arona.
he beat arona in his rematch. and it was actually a controversal decision, no one has really beaten him big time, its always close. in the first fight arona was just taking him down and sitting on him. very boring. Wanderlei does seem to struggle with strong wrestlers like tito and arona.
Mark Hunt is a world class striker, in k-1 rules he would have knocked the f*** out of ppl like skelton, he is iron chin, this guy will prob never ever ever get knocked out. he took over 6 kicks of crocops to the head without even looking hurt. ppl cant take one and this guy walks into em regularly...lol. he is samoan, what do you expect. he has massive amounts of ko power too!!!
when he fought wanderlei, it was a controversal decision. silva hadnt been beaten in over 5 years at the time. silva is a much more improved fighter now than he was back in 1997/8.
silva and hunt had a good fight, silva was doing well standing with hunt, he was floored with a combo of punches but was ok. NOW IF SILVA COULD STAND WITH SUCH A DANGEROUS WORLD CLASS STRIKER LIKE HUNT, DO YOU STILL THINK SILVA HAS GIRLY PUNCHES AND PROB CANT FIGHT OR TAKE A SHOT. HUH?
hunt went on to beat the likes of crocop, and other fighters. he lost controversal decsions to world class fighters, he will now prob beat hunt, hunt outweighed him by 25 pounds before (silva was LHW back then) now he is HW so it will be a different story!

never said he punches like a girl
the Mark Hunt and Arona fights were both close fights and could have gone either way and i know he won the rematch with Arona
The same thing you say Arona did, thats what silva did with cro cop, he took cro cop down the whole fight and didn't land anything clean.  i think cro cop should of got the win, he did more than silva when the fight was a stand up, hit Silva with some hard kicks to the ribs
It might sound like I hate Silva but i don't, i agree that he is an improved fighter then when he was fighting in the UFC and he looked very good in his last fight.  I want silva to get matched with cro cop in the next round or the finals if they both make it to the finals
I don't understand why you mentioned Skelton, he would get beat by alot of fighters in k-1 rules not just Mark Hunt

to me, anytime 2 guys decide to go full contact with a set of rules is considered a sport. Some may say, that if you can hit an opponent while on the ground, that its not sportsman like.... Well what about if you can block a punch on the ground? these guys are doing something with rules, and regulations, to me...Hellova sport!

I doubt it. No offense to anybody that does like mma, but after reading this and another thread about mma I will never be a fan of it. It takes fighting sports back to the Roman gladiator days, the only thing different is that they are not allowed to kill their opponent.

Anyone remember that K-1 guy who "could punch as hard as David Tua" and he got his ass handed to him in his first boxing match????
