Tommy Morrison making comeback
From Fightnews.com
Q&A Tommy Morrison!
By David Finger
“The Duke” says he was diagnosed “false positive” for HIV. Planning immediate comeback.
It would be hard for any boxing fan from the 1990s not to have some vivid memory of Tommy “The Duke” Morrison. Perhaps it was his co-starring role in Rocky V, or his amazing string of first round knockouts on ESPN early in his career. Perhaps it was his brutal knockout loss to Ray Mercer, or his come-from-behind victories against Carl “The Truth” Williams and Joe Hipp. It just seemed that Tommy Morrison was a fighter who was made to be a boxing superstar. Of course his pigmentation didn’t hurt, but lets face it: the Duke could fight, and you could make a really strong argument that had he fought in this era of boxing rather that the era of Holyfield, Bowe, Tyson, and Lewis, that he might very well be a champion right now.

:coolclick: beat me to that one.
Morrison is dellusional.
Who in the hell would risk their lives getting into the ring with someone that's got the virus...dormant or not.
One fighter get's cut...then the other does...blood get's all over each other in a clench & then you got another fighter risking the taint.

Yep..........that ref was a little bitch alright......he should have jumped in between by about the 4th or 5th connect as it was obvious that Morrison was out.

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
As most know I'm a huge Morrison fan, But this seems highly unlikely. I would love to see him just stay retired. But if he does really comeback, I would at least like to see him win a couple by Ko, Maybe just fight a bunch of nobodies and get a higher ratio of wins and Ko. But in reality, He needs to get matches first, But who the hell would fight him?? I bet somebody will. Marcus Rhodes gave him a chance right after he got diagnosed. I just hope he doesn't get hurt or worse, Transfer the illness.

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
His next opponent would be a very brave man. I cant see any of the top fighters risking a fight with tommmy,if he gets that far.
Would be hard to find a cuts man to work for him as well!
-
Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
Well cut men get to use gloves.
Tommy says he has been tested again and the HIV hasn't shown up.
If a guy like Mesi can fight I don't see why Tommy shouldn't be able to...I mean fighters fight with Hepititus all the time (Mercer, Holyfield) that's a disease that stays with you forever...just ask Pamela Anderson

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
What? How can this be from a medical standpoint? Even if so, a license matter would be tenuous; morover, any prospective opponent would have to step into the ring with a gigantic condom on his torso. I saw the Morrson vs Ruddick fight live in Kansas City in 1996. What a fight; Morrison was a fine warrior, and I admired him. He was living here in Oklahoma at the time, and after he announced the HIV thing, his life spiraled down and out of control, DUI, carrying cancelled weapons, etc.

What is a cancelled weapon in the states?

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
I have never heard of such a thing False Positive???....Im no medical professional but my wife is a nurse and she never heard of such a thing either.....I dont think anyone would license Tommy so this is all just Talk.....Besides even if it were true Tommy has been away a long time and is no where peak....If he wants to stay invoolved in the game so bad try training or managing keep yourself healthy he had a decent career dont ruin what little bit of legecy you have by becoming a sideshow

False negative vs. false positive
Statistical tests always involve a trade-off between:
(a) the acceptable level of false positives (in which an non-match is declared to be a match) and
(b) the acceptable level of false negatives (in which an actual match is not detected).
That is all I could come up with

Yeah I don’t understand the article honestly. It said when he was incarcerated , his T -cell count was so low they called him dead man walking. that don’t sound like false positive to me??
ringside seats will be $5-10... the back row will be $75- $100. LMFAO. Gdam !

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
You've never heard of a "False Positive"???? Women get false positives tests a lot usually the one that tells them they have Cervical Cancer (my girlfriend had one of those tests and it was a false positive)
A false positive obviously means that the test comes back positive but an error made it that way and so it is a bad test. Every testing thingy doctors use have X ammount of false positives per 100 or 1000 times they do it
-
Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
I saw him live come from behind and TKO Razor Ruddick in Kansas City; it was a hook in the mode of Shavers, Frazier and Marciano rolled into one, which, I mean, flattened Ruddick like no one has ever been flattened. Ruddick dropped him in round one with an uppercut, and I thought it was all over. I wonder if anyone will fight him now because of the medical issue?

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
too old , too "tainted" , too skinny. he is done and has been for a long time . false positive? yeah!!!
when he first tested positive you dont think he went back for more tests? im sure he has the "T virus" (ya know "resident evil" and all). he should do like alot of boxers and become a trainer/promoter.

I didn't think AIDS could be transfered when blood touches skin, it would only be transfered if introduced into the body. Example.. if Morrison cut somebody in a fight and then got cut himself and his blood got into the cut of his opponent, then it risks.. but unless the other boxer only cuts Tommy and injests his blood the disease won't be transferred.

Not quite what I meant when I said I never heard of it before but OK..lol....I meant more along the lines of someone having something Like HIV for years then all of a sudden not having it....Especially because anyone with the sickness has to follow a very balanced life of eating right and taking the right meds resting ect...so it doesnt turn into full blown aids....

Ok let me explain myself...When I say never heard of that I mean I have never heard of someone having an illness like HIV or any other life threatning illness for years and all of a sudden after working with and being treated for years by Drs for it all of a sudden it turns up False Positive...As for something like your girlfriend went through...They re-test things like that for just that reason..knowing it could come back that way- ( like a home pregnancy test not 100 percent accurate this is why you go and get re-tested at Drs)...But never ever have I heard of such a thing with Hiv-What Morrsion claims can only be compared to lets say a guy being told he has liver cancer and goes to Kimo for years and takes all the meds then one day is told OOPS we made a mistake..No worrys your hair will grow back...
( Congrats on the false positive w/ G-friend my sister had same thing last year and had to have everything removed )

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
Scary thing is some doctors may be crooked enough to pass him through this shit with a little money. If any commission is thinking of allowing him to box they better have a doctor look at the situation outside of any tests he brings to the table.

Re: Tommy Morrison making comeback
A typographical error of course, i.e., the word is "concealed." It is interesting X and his head-bobbing underling, Violent Demise, did not catch that and thought it was "cancelled weapon." X should have served on my doctoral dissertation committee, for these five (5)scholars, with PhDs, allowed two (2) very minor typographical errors slip in the rather exhaustive bibliography which was in German, and which to this day no one has detected; Tommy Morrison's sins were many, but he was a good boxer for a country boy from Jay, Oklahoma. By the way, I have taken it under advisement to scrutinize the posts of these two Forum veterans as to substantive content, form, syntax and spelling. What goes around comes around Dr Vitali Klitschko commented once. LOL!
