Who is the best modern fighter never to win a world title?

Back in the days of 8 World Champs, many a fighter was very good and never won a World Title, Charley Burley, All-time is the best IMO, but my question is...

Who is the best fighter(s) who retired between Jan 1 1996 and Dec 31 2005, to not win a WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO title?

Micheal Watson.

Good call, he qualifies on his mid 90s comeback. This is a very hard question to answer... just waiting for the 43 Mr Presidents to kick in ;)

Watson and Graham Im sure were the two on the end of most (Brits at least) peoples tongues.

Maybe not officially retired but I dont see him ever winning one so Im going to include David Tua, not the greatest but you would have thought he could have thumped his way to a title win.

definitely herol graham. an elusive genius at his peak who never got the world title shot when he was at his very best

what about earnie shavers one of the hardest hitting heavyweights he was unlucky not to get a world title

I think we will struggle to find too many top drawer fighters who never won a belt to be honest.

With that in mind.....Henry Wharton?

good call with wharton. however in his 3 world title shots he was found wanting in the technical department

Only date keeps Howard Eastman off this list, high up it too ;)

Oba Carr. First Trinidad knocks him out. Quartey than punishes him for 12 rounds. De La Hoya than ends any title dream Carr has.

Why do you tell us when they retired? just pointing it out... or are you saying that doesn't make them a modern fighter? ;)

Herol Graham, by miles.

Marty Jaubowski has 100+ wins, but has lost everytime he has fought for a title. Oba Carr gave Ike Quartey the fight of his life, and was only down 1 round before Trinidad KO'd him. In 60 fights Carr never cashed in on a title. 2 more I though of over the day. Jaubowski kind of belongs in the Sean O'Grady category but he is still the most recent fighter to win 100 bouts.
