If proper drug testing took place, and Pryor entered the ring clean, Duran wins every time!
i did hear they were going fight at lightweight but never happened
Late 78/79 was really the only practical time it could of happened. And there is no way a relative novice even as good as Pryor competes with 135 prime Duran. Duran would of picked apart and won at a canter in the end in 10 or so rounds.Quote:

Everyone points to the first Arguello fight, but personally I think Pryor reached his peak the night he annihilated the brilliant Antonio Cervantes in August 1980.
Cervantes? Wasn't he behind on points when he beat knocked him out? But Aaron Pryor would beat Duran at Lightweight because I don't think Duran would outbox him. And I don't think Duran would have been able to beat Arguello.
The excellent Cervantes decked Pryor in the first, hence the reason the fight was close after three rounds. Pryor's victory is even more amazing because of the knockdown. Cervantes had been virtually unbeatable at 140lbs, post 71, whilst this was Pryor's first fight at the weight. Pryor was very much on top by the fourth...Quote:

As for Duran/Arguello; it was meant to happen in the late 70s, but Arguello blew it when he lost a non title fight to a Journeyman, something prime Duran would never of done.
Pryor had the best work ethic of all sparing up to 45 rounds a day (read this in a boxing magazine). I would have given him a good chance against Duran, Leonard or Hears. In fact He beat Hearns handily in the Golden gloves and I think the Olympic trials. I have read that In sparing he and Leonard beat the heck out of each other with Leonard being dropped on occasion. Pryor challenged Leonard on several occasions and was finally offered 500,000 to Leonard's $4 million and thus these unfair negotiations brought on the down-fall of what could have been a great fight.
Hawk
I think Pryors workrate would be the difference. Both guys in their primes would have been amazing to see.
So would Pryor vs. McGirt
i heard in the golden gloves pryor broke tommy hearns nose
as much as i love duran its the hawk for me. his workrate and stamina and rock solid chin would see him through for a points win
???
I just do not understand how anyone could think that Pryor in 78/79 could beat absolute prime Duran.
Pryor was at least 18 months away from his peak, he was a relative novice fighting a 60-1 fighter, with 12 defence of the World Championship to his name. Pryor had barely 12 fights to his name in the timescale!
It could only lead to one result, Duran win, probably rather easily.
When Pryor beat Hearns in the ams Hearns had no strength, got the vidio. Pryor never gave me the impression He had the tools to beat Duran.
Especially if the ME was playing up. could you imagine being in the ring with Roberto Duran, and suddenly getting an attack of ME-related symptoms.
No amount of quickfire gags would be enough to save Richard.
Duran stops Pryor late on. I also think Ray Leonard would beat the hawk.
scrap if u got the video could u put it on youtube or something i would like to see that fight would be appreciated
IF WE'RE IMPLYING THAT THE FIGHT WOULD TAKE PLACE WITH BOTH FIGHTERS IN THERE PRIME ,THAN PERSONALLY IM LEANING TOWARDS PRYOR BECAUSE I DONT SEE DURAN KNOCKING HIM OUT OR OUT BOXING HIM.BUT WITH TWO FIGHTERS OF THAT CALIBER AND THEIR STYLES IT DOESNT MATTER .IT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT FIGHT .
so true so true.....hard to fight and keep up with someone hopped up on coke..... :oQuote:

Pryor was an animal but Duran was pure evil back then. Duran by stoppage. That little standin in the middle of the ring thing and pointin would just made Duran laugh. People tend to overlook that Arguello was gettin a little older and comin up in weight when Pryor beat him. I dunno why they never fought, cus I too would have loved to seen it. Even after 79, why couldn't Pryor have come up to 147 and met Duran at welterweight?
would pryor get duran mad like ray leonard did ??
I dunno. Duran was always mad. But no he wouldn't keep his fightin distance and taunt Duran and refuse to fight him like Leonard did the second time. Leonard would also beat Pryor IMO, despite the sparring stories. If you believe all sparrin stories, then Kid Diamond beat Floyd Maywhether's ass, bloodied his nose and made him quit. As well as dropping Cory Spinks.Quote:

Well amatuers can be differnt. Remember that Shane Mosley beat Oscar in the amatuers and Vernon beat Shane. But then again Abduallev and Kelson Pinto beat Cotto in the amatuers and both were KO'd.Quote:
