PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
Well I just read on Boxingtalk that PBF will announce his opponent in a week or so, so I've decided to get a gauge on who people think it is. After much deliberation, I truly believe that it is none other than Diego Corrales.
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
HE ALRADY DESTROYED CORRALES... What would it prove?
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
No way in Hell it is Coralles!!! You might as well say it's Arturo Gatti
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
no he said corrales which is crazy... I think cuz of all this flack it may be Margarito after all unless he's a total wuss
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it is Margarito but...
I don't think so.
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I have a feeling it's Margarito...and I sincerely hope it is.

why would the powers that be give us a fight that we want to see??? C'mon PRIDE.....you know that fight will never happen......:)
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I hope its Margarito so all these questions get answered, so we know if he is for real or if he was just hype. cuz you can say Mayweather will dominate or Margarito will knock him out cuz he is a bigger version of Castillo, till your blue in the face, but untill they get in the ring we will never know.

Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
Believe it or not, it might be Kermit Cintron

If its not margarito (i hope it is) its probably going to be spinks.
i still think mosely is a possibility, assuming he wins this fight on saturday, i think that he will have a TON of money thrown his way to see if he wont change his mind
sooo.............
1) margarito
2) spinks
3) mosely (i know he already shot it down, but if it were enough money.....)
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I think Mosley had some valid points like having to loose the weight and getting used to 147 again I doubt money will change his mind since he will be facing the number one p4p he will have to be at his best.
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
It wont be Corrales, because I dont see PBF moving down till he gets a belt at 154. He has said that he only wants to fight PPV fights from now on so it better not be Cintron. Mosely has already said he wont fight him. I can see it being spinks so PBF can get a 154 belt and then a unification bout with DLH next year would generate a larger amount of money.

I highly doubt it is Spinks. Spinks don't deserve a big pay day, and no one really wants to see that fight.

he has the world title in what would be floyds 5th weight class
it has long been known that one of floyds primary goals was to be the first person to ever capture 5 world titles in 5 different weight classes
as far as the payday that you feel spinks doesnt deserve............dont worry, if this fight does happen, then im sure floyd is going to get a HUGE piece of that pie and not much will be left for spinks
spinks doesnt pose much of a threat to pbf, and that ibf strap is pretty much being served to floyd on a golden platter imo

If you say so man, you can hate on Cory all you want he is still a slick southpaw boxer who has skills..Karmazin didnt seem to have a problem with Cory's win sure Cory faded down the Stretch But Karm couldnt execute at all in the fight Forget the Ref stuff too...Only reason Karm was starting to take rounds cause Cory got Fatigued plain and simple and even when Karm was catching Cory it was only one punch at a time for the most part, while Cory was Throwing Combos all nite Karm couldnt Execute bottom line..
Why dosent Cory deserve a Payday??? He beat Judah,Mayorga,Karmazin,Pitriello(or whatever the Italian champs name was) and it would be a good matchup between two slick elusive defensive minded fighters with speed
I'm not saying Cory Will win but it would be a good fight....Lets face it Cory has a better resume than MARGARITO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah, thats where you wrong. Cory is a fraud. He has a legit win, maybe, I didnt see da fight, against Picarillo. He should have losses to Mayorga, Judah both times, and now Karmazin. But when ya got da judges in your back pocket, it don't work that way. So havin one win against Picarillo, who is a good boxer, but no superstar, does not make him better than Margarito. Floyd should be able to beat Spinks, cus Spinks likes to get brave with guys that are much smaller than him, Judah for example, and would probably do the same thing with Floyd and get popped a lot, cus Floyd IS faster than him, and actually sits down on his punches though. BUT if Spinks starts runnin, Floyd won't be able to catch him. And if its in St. Louis, you might just see Floyds first professional loss.

cc for the accurate statement
spinks is WAAAAAY more deserving of this fight than margarito is

Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
How can he be more more desrving of a fight if he has fought once in 2 years?? WTF are you talking about? Stop being so ignorant, you make these statements in a weak attempt to justify the fact that PBF turned down $8mill to fight Tony and he doesn't want any part of Winky either. He'll target someone he knows he can beat at 154 and a Spinks fight would hardly make anything anyway.Who'd pay to see that?
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
Tony brings nothing to the table
Tony has not done anything to deserve a shot
no one wants to see me fight Tony
ill fight the winner of Vargas vs Mosley
ill fight Hatton
ill fight ODLH
oh shit............... ..
Seems like Floyd has run out of reasons to fight Tony. Oh wait, there's Spinks... ??? ::**

Hey man, ODLH had titles in 6 weight classes. 130, 135, 140, 147, 154, 160. The guy is more decorated than a war veteran.
BTW, PBF apparently said that this fight would be a huge blockbuster. So I was thinking who could actually be matched with PBF that would be a blockbuster. He hasn't taken the Tony fight, Gatti got destroyed and will never fight PBF again, Mosley don't wanna fight, ODLH ain't until May 07, Cintron ain't a big fight, Collazo has no belts, Hatton ain't fighting PBF in Nov, who the hell could it be with some namepower? Then I thought Diego because Diego has no opponent since JLC, Diego has always said that he was going through some things during training for the fight and he wasn't himself for the PBF fight, it would be a bigname fight, and even though Diego lost once, people would still pay money to see them go at it again.

spinks has a legitimate title at 154. tony does not
do you follow boxing much?
do some research.........winky priced himself out of a fight with floyd saying he wouldnt do it for less than half (even though he took less than half for jt). if you followed it at all, you would know floyd has been saying for YEARS that he wants to be the first ever to win 5 titles in 5 different weight classes before hes 30 (times running out for floyd)
read my whole post before you spew ignorant nonsense at me (i had tony as number 1 possibility)
maybe margarito needs to fight an established contender before he starts saying he deserves to get in the ring with the p4p best in the world ;)

Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
Tszyu would be crazy to fight PBF with his long lay off. To me it only makes sense to have a fight with Spinks. No disrespect to Spinks, but it would be the easier championship fight for PBF. Spinks doesnt pack the punch the other belt holders due. PBF has already faced a southpaw with similar speed and skills in Judah and came out with the win. It would be a similar fight with Spinks taking the first third of the fight and then PBF would start to take over and wear Spinks down the rest of the fight. Spinks would have to improve his stamina to stand a chance. After Floyd takes his belt he would have his mega/super unification bout with DLH in May of '07. This scenerio makes to much sense to me, how much bigger would that fight with ODLH be if Floyd came in with a belt. It would be huge!
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I'm sorry, you're the one spouting that PBF is the best P4P and he does that how....oh he should fight the ever threatening Corey Spinks,or Kermit Ciontron or anyone else but Tony!!Anyway,Oscar has a paper belt, why can't he wait until May.And don't insult my intelligence,Spinks should not have and was lucky to get a shot at Karmazin, barely scraped through and should be a man and give Roman a rematch.... there is no way he is more deserving than Tony.
Maybe Floyd should stop running his mouth about business deals because he looks foolish turning down $8million and fighting anyone else for less. Where is the business sense there?(I actually aimed the original post at JTrock ;D)

Didn't think of it like that, Floyd grabs Spinks' belt in Nov and then grabs another belt from Ouma or whoever in Feb and then the ODLH is now the undisputed championship of the world at 154.

Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I see a power punching machine,a massive WW,with endless stamina, with the ability to adjust in a fight,to utilise a jab etc etc. Styles make fights, and I just believe Tony is too big,too strong for Floyd and at the very least,Tony may lose on points, but he'll push Floyd all the way. He's more relentless than JLC,who in my and most people's opinions beat Floyd the first time. Margarito already stated that he'll break Floyd's body down, that is something NONE of his other opponents have even thought of doing, going to the body and along with all the above factors mentioned, makes me believe that he will give Floyd a great fight...far far better than anyone Floyd has fought since JLC and better than anyone else at 147 by a long long way.
-
Re: PBF's mystery opponent for November is...
I think Tszyu would be brilliant ! honestly. I would love to that fight ! it would be good revenue! and good for boxing! Kostya is good people , id like to see him get the opportunity to fight Mayweather and then Hatton one more time in OZ or the States !

good analysis, cc for you (eventhough i disagree)
hopefully this has all been a bunch of hype, and the fight does happen at some point
floyd wants the belt, though. apparantly hes making his announcement next week, so im just gonna have to wait and see before i start dumping on his choice of opponents, seeing as how the last fights he pushed for was oscar, then mosely.
and there was never any sort of talks between mayweather and cintron, it was boxrec nonsense ;)

CC back, and dang,I did a pretty good job of selling Margarito didn't I!!?! Like I maintain,I like PBF,he is an IMMENSE talent,I just don't want to see him waste it on the likes of Gatti,Brusseles etc, He is at his peak,go,seek out the big names and beat them all!! I actually believe that the Cintron thing may still have some truth,it comes from an interview with Manny Steward who said he would tarin Cintron to beat Floyd and that there were negotiations. Someone posted it here, the thread where it says something about Steward! Check it out!
