Fernando Vergas FINSHED
Heres the facts...
He is 28.
W26 L3 D0 22KO
84.6% KO rate.
Yet I believe his best has gone. He simply cannot stand up
to the fighters here.
He is easy to beat through fast paced boxing.
Can he offer us anymore in a world where boxing is better than
being a puncher. I don't think so!
I dare anyone to disagree with me!

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
I don't think he's totally finished yet, but he's damn close to it.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
i admit he's a old 28, and has had a lot of tough fights with the top names, de la hoya, trindad, mosley, wright plus injurys. the rematch with mosley will tell us more about whats left in the tank
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
i dont think he's finished just yet. we will see on his next fight
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
...3 losses....easy to beat through fast paced boxing huh?
Then why was he so competative vs Mosley and YES it was a very even match
Vargas still has some battles in him, he could beat a lot of guys at 154, I see him taking 1 big payday by fighting Jermaine Taylor if he beats Mosley
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
How much does Mosley have left in him? He barely makes that weight any more.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
It will depend on the rematch that's coming up, how he performs etc
I hope the guy wins, he has alot of heart.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
Vargas-Mayorga
Vargas-any of the 160 up and comers
and my favorite
Vargas-Lacy
Would all be GREAT fights....I really hope the best for him but no matter how many times he loses fans will watch him...he's like a bigger Arturo Gatti
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
I think I will wait until Saturday to make a judgment about what he has left in the tank.

Man I like Vargas but he's probably gonna lose a UD to Mosley then retire. Only fight you mentioned that would be competitve is against my man Mayorga. And after his last embarassin ass whippin who knows if we'll even see him again. Vargas at 160 would get killed by JT, and the rest of the top 5 guys IMO. And just KO'd in the 1st round by Lacy.

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
...Fernando has heart and that counts for a lot. Vargas still has power...people will sleep on him, he'll fade into a forgotten fighter then explode back onto the scene for a final hurrah

Yet somehow you can't say the same thing about El Matador? Because that is how I see what is left of his career if he so choses to come back. And a fight with him and Vargas would be pretty entertaining.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
Vargas won't beat Mosely who is probably a Bgrade fighter among the current crop at 147-154. Vargas will always go out on his shield in the big fights, but he won't win them anymore. He can beat up some contenders if he feels like it but his value is a fan friendly style, not the standard of his game. He's a solid puncher at 154, not a big one. Tito's jab moved Vargas' head more than Vargas' right moved Tito. How many Vargas 1 shot KOs can you remember? How many against good fighters? How many in the last few years? Forget about it at 160. He could hurt Ray Jorval who was dropped hard by feather fisted Sam Soliman. Taylor would make Taco meat out of him

He beat a guy at 154 who had to eat breakfast to be like 152 pounds... He was overweight, but still the size difference was too dramatic between him and Mosley, and htats the only reason he did well... Lets see him take that many punches from ODLH.

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
He won't look finished on Saturday

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
It's too bad that they through Vargas and Reid in the ring early in their careers with a lion like Trinidad, bad mistake from thier camps, at least Vargas had enough heart to stick around while David Reid faded away.

Vargas is fun to watch ! and is a great fighter ! seems like people are too caught up in wins a losses. a fighter can have 5-6 losses on his record and be the most dangerous S.O.B in the world and a fighter can be 42-0 and be Peter Pan ! These big records with no losses are shit ! with the exception of a Mayweather these records can be misleading and lots of times signify an over protected fighter , just building up records on chumps to fool the common folk . anyway I agree with your statement !
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
yep, agreed with the guy above me
vargas is one of the few guys who isn't afraid of putting losses on his record
as long as it's to the best
i think mosley will probably win, but i really hope vargas has made some adjustments and pulls something out.
GO VARGAS
he deserves to shine

Indeed. ! Those big Battles add up on the cash register, depending on how your put together physically you may be able to withstand more punishment then the guy next to you. but eventually when you hit enough keys, that drawer gonna fly open,

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
I think we are just exaggerating this thing with finished fighters.
Back in the days the 30's 40's and 50's A fighter would do normaly about 130 fights and those fights was mutch harder and with harder gloves and still thay managed to fight through many ko losses and still did good for many years.
Today as fast as a fighter get a big beating in a fight and even if he's young everyone starts "ooo he's finished he took to much beating"
I am not taliking about fighters like evander! Evander is done. But many aother are not.

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
vargas is a useless crab.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
First off the 3 losses don't mean he's washed up..it's not like he lost to 3 nobodys or up and comers....He was out for a long time with back injurys..Yes he is an old 28 but he has been in some wars...Fernando has been amoung the top tier for a while...he could use some easier fights for a while to get back into top form but finished no

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
dont even suggest vargas take an easy fight
you should know by his resume that that's the last thing he would want
and unless you want to destroy boxing, that should be the last thing you want too
fukk all this "he needs a tune up fight crap"
if the best always fought the best
then we might actually know who really is the best
and boxing might actually be a popular sport and rise from the ashes

You make a very valid point !! Cool Click , You know back in the Ray Leonard days , the best fought the best while they were in their primes, and it made people want to tune in, What’s a loss when you give a 100% against a top guy?? All people want to see is a fighter perform to the best of their ability, wins and losses who gives a rat’s a**? look at Gatti. he lacks in certain areas, but its not in determination, and that’s what matters ! he gives his best , and the by product is he puts asses in seats ! The same can be said for Vargas. The man comes to fight, and gives his best every time out, I have nothing but love for a fighter that do that !

I said easier fight not one with the corner drunk...Every fight cant be a war especially if you just came back from back surgery not too long ago..Get back into the rythm of things one or two fights to get the work in then jump back into the big picture again..Have a little bit of longevity

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
:P

Enough said!

he lost to mosley twice tito and oscar ...Yea hes done :beat:
boxings what he does its his job ...the sun rises the moon falls and boxers box

Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
...with the events of this weekend I say "Fernando give Sturm a comeback fight" or perhaps a fight with Vernon Forrest would be good for him.
He is like the EASIEST fighter to take out mentally...I feel bad for him, but his record is nothing to be ashamed of.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
Actually, Vargas should kind of be ashamed. I think everyone is forgetting this is the first KO Mosley has had since Adrian Stone, 5 years ago. Mosley ain't exactly Tommy Hearns, especially at 154. Vargas needs to hang 'em up.
-
Re: Fernando Vergas FINSHED
Vargas definately needs to retire now, he hasnt gotta chance of becoming champ or anything close to it agen.
