Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Just having a look on boxrec, his last fight was an 8 round close decision against some tomato can who has had about 8 fights and lost half of them i think?
Urkal is to old why the hell is Hatton fighting this guy? I know it's not really Hattons fault it's his mandatory, but come on he is probably not even in the top 20, Hatton should be lining up fighters who will mimic future fighters he wants to face like Cotto or Mayweather, Urkal is an old man looking for one last pay day, i would be suprised if HBO are intrested in this fight, but i also have a small feeling that Ricky is waiting for the winner of Baldomir v Gatti for the end of the year that would make much more sense.

Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Hatton is getting caught up in the paper titles. Everyone think the titles give them leverage for big fights but the reality is, when your name is as big as Hatton's and PBF's, paper belts dont mean anything.
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
because he lost to Vivian Harris he gets number one.

But you don't see anyone coming out and saying ricky i want you next; not as if gatti has said something along the lines of he will figt hatton if he beats Baldomir, there has been enough time for cotto to say he wants him, judah etc.. the hattons have been stalling on this urkal deal since the WBA said he hada fight him next if he wants the belt. The impression that give me was hatton would rather vacate it if it might fighting a better boxer, he went to the JLC v DC 'fight' shame a bit to much of JLC did.. but that fell through so fighting JLC anytime soon seems a no no.
Maybe hatton needs to stop being a 'nice guy' come out say i want such and such person next and im gunna knock them out!

Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Give Collazo a rematch, he'll take it
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Ricky Hatton is foolish to take this fight. It does nothing for his legacy and who actually cares about the paper title? He needs to beat Collazo convincingly, answer the questions asked. And if for some reason,he cannot take the Collazo fight,Margarito has called him a couple of times too.

Theres much bigger and better fights for Hatton (not fuckin Urkal mind >:mad) to make than giving a rematch to a guy that stylewise is your worst nightmare.
Not every CLOSE fight warrants a rematch, however unfair it may seem ;)
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Not every close match deserves a rematch, that is indeed true but when you say you are going to give the guy rematch, when the guy gave you a title shot and is willing to come to your backyard to fight, then it warrants a rematch. To put the exclamation mark at the end, rather than fight Collazo for all the above mentioned factors,he is fighting Urkal........ The collazo fight or indeed, any other decent fight @147 would add to Hatton's legacy, this fight would not....

It hasn't been confirmed Hatton is fighting Urkal yet, has it?
Surely theirs a string of big names people would sooner see Hatton face than a rematch with Collazo?
And at the end of the day I'm sure Collazo is grateful to Hatton for putting him on the map whether he gets a rematch or not. ;)
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
The Hatton fight is practically confirmed I think, although WBA has set a deadline for him to reply if he hasn't yet. Hatton-Collazo would answer questions Collazo raised about the Hitman@147 especially when he had him out on his feet.I'd like to see Hatton against Quintana or Williams because guys like Gatti and Baldomir are booked but it won't happen. I'd really like to see Margarito fight Hatton but Hatton wouldn't dare fight the Tijuana Tornado.
And not really bro,Collazo thought he won,is certain he can win a rematch and wants his title back otherwise he is too high risk for the big players so I don't think he's that grateful!

Well at least Collazos stock has gone up and people actually know who he is.
Maybe for the reasons you state it would be wiser for Hatton to answer the questions Collazo raised against some other guys ;)

Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Naa,I'd rather see Hatton fight and beat Collazo convincingly and like i said, there are not that many more option open to him. I think Margarito should call out Hatton more,Hatton is in a bit of a corner at the moment,I don't really see any big fights lined up for him!

No kidding brother ,the ranking system of the sanctioning bodies is corrupt, I think they put the names of all the fighters in each division in hat, and draw names ! seriously, its that fuked ! If your promoter pays enough money you can get a title shot ! corruption at the highest levels ! This sport is dying because of the system, we need conformity, unity, we need real policing of the system, then this sport thrives !

Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Hatton should definitly fight Collazo again, Urkal's a nobody! the Collazo fight was an awsome fight
i'd definitly pay to see it again! Urkal though ??? think ill keep my money!
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
See,that's another point I forgot to mention, who the heck is going to pay to see Hatton Urkal?? Hatton Collazo would make Hatton far more money either side of the Atlantic AND it would gain him more respect. I'm not going to lie,I have gone off the Hitman slightly after this saga and after he said he would fight Luis again. If Hatton wants to get big stateside,he should fight Collazo.
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
I can't see why Hatton would want to fight Urkal, except that its a gimme fight. It does nothing for his legacy & no one wants to see it anyway. Their are better fights out there for him. I think he should give Collazo a rematch, but if not Margarito would be fine. Hatton should fight someone worth while. If he doesn't want a top guy Paul Williams or Carlos Quintana would be perfect opponents. Even try to set something up with Cotto or Witter. Theres no way in hell I wanna see Hatton/ Urkal
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Hatton v Urkal wont happen ;)
He has bigger names to beat, cant say who at the minute but a meeting took place yesterday to try and finalise a MUCH bigger opponent than Urkal.
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
collazo should move on with his career and prove to everyone that hes a man. fight some more good fighters and then he'll be back in position for a big fight. sitting around waiting for a protected fighter to grant you a rematch is a waste of time. you get respect by fighting, not by calling people out and begging for rematches.

Collazo is too big.. Ricky is a small bloke ! Ricky needs to stay at 140, now if he was a Tall Boxer / Puncher he could move up and be successful, but he is not , he is a short volume puncher and belongs at 140. the fact that he beat Collazo was a miracle, he should not keep testing fate.

Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
He probably became ranked no.1 sometime after Hatton "won" the WBA welterweight belt... I really hope Hatton doesn't take this fight but I think he will.. For everyone who thinks he has bigger names to go after..... WHO?? Castillo and Cotto are fighting each other next year ideally, and that would be an equal or bigger fight money wise than Hatton vs either of those two.. Floyd Hatton could still happen but personally I don't give Ricky a chance.... Don't give him a chance against Margarito either, and if anyone thinks he will take that fight your kidding yourself.. Ive seen Hatton respond to a question about Tony and you coould totally tell he didn't even want to talk about the possibility of the fight, at least that's what I thought.. It was on FNF a couple months back. The Collazo rematch is the only one that would make sense but I think Hatton know's he would stand little chance at winning that fight either.. I don't think Collazo is a stylistic nightmare or anything like that, he's just bigger than Hatton and strong enough to take anything he can dish out easily, plus to be honest I think Hatton is much less dangerous fighting in the states where he can't just maul his opponent. I think Hatton vs Margarito would be the most one sided beatdown, Tony is a HUGE welterweight, Hatton was at times hopeless against an average natural welter who isn't as good as Margarito at all, Tony would drop some bombs on him and it would get ugly fast.. This isn't to say I wouldn't love to see any one of these fights get made, I just don't realistically think Hatton would win them and I don't even put him in the top 5 at welter.

Margarito can barely make 147. No way in hell he ever makes 140.

thats my point. Tony should be a middleweight in that frame !

thats my point. Tony should be a middleweight in that frame !
But he's not. He knows his limitations. He can't win at 154. So he squeezes himself to 147 to gain an advantage. Margarito at 154 or higher is nothing but a club fighter. And he knows it.
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
Silly points again,Margarito doesn't struggle to make 147 at all, therefore there is no squeeze. He bulks up to fight@154,that's why he is uncomfortable fighting there.147 is his natural weight. ::**

I'd love to see Tony-Hatton but like I said before the Collazo fight,Tony would heat him alive and I stick by that. Too big,too strong and powerful.Cool Click but the only thing I disagree with is Hatton having no fights. If you can't get the bigger names, there are always dangerous opponents like Clottey,Cintron,Williams,Quintana etc etc. All are far far more respectable than an ageing Urkal. One thing P4PK,what do you mean Hattoncan't maul his opponents stateside? As in he's not allowed to get away with the rough house stuff like IN Manchester?
-
Re: Why the Hell is Urkal the WBA number 1 ranked fighter??
I would love to see Quintana fight Hatton. Quintana is a much better version of Collazo and would definitely defeat Hatton. Hatton will be steamrolled at 147 against bigger and faster guys. No disrespect to Hatton though. I am sure he will give it his all. But his height, swelling/bleeding tendencies, and lack of the effectiveness he had at 140 will do him in big time. Watch.
