Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
That was Sugar Ray Leonard's gift and it may not be yours. If you kill yourself trying to become faster you will become faster, but faster than Sugar Ray Leonard is a different story.
And you being white has nothing to do with it

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
LOL being white..... you crack me up, and as for the speed, its exactly what the last guy said, he was normally super fast, maybe your normally super strong or super chinned. or super white :P
-
Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Its all down to genetic potential ;)
Forget about SRL, you can become faster :P

Wrong. On average, white people have a lower percentage of fast twitch muscle. That's why you rarely see white guys in the 100m final. Scientifically proven. That same principle holds true here.
77, just work on technical precision and what works for you.

Von is correct, what abouy my left hook to the body, does noboddy care

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Enviorment also helps altitude and climate, e g kenyan runners, mexican boxers, eskimo hunters aboriganee bushmen , marstian cave men and the enviorment of ones own mind, plays a big part, the ability to work at it also helps

I'm more concerned that you quit so easily.

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
You might could become faster, but you'd have to train like a motherfucker. (You'd also have to know how to train). :)

I'm being 100 percent serious....How often do you see a white boxer be as fast as say someone like SRL or even Manny Pacquioa..
Apart from ODH, i dont remember many

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Joe Calzaghe is blindingly fast. So is Wlad Klitscho for his size.
-
Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Actually you dont see to many black guys with the speed of Lenoard, I put that down to gymnastics as a youth he was use to motorized explosion.

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Are we making a statement that all white people are slow or black people are faster than white people?
-
Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
No we are stating a genetic fact
-
Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Jason Litzau is fast and packs a punch and there is alot of white people that are fast inside of my gym. To be honest I am kinda only the fast black person at my gym the rest of them are sluggers.

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
I officially became faster than SRL last night. What a feeling.
-
Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
i would have to agree with all this. i worked my @ss off trying to be "the fastest" i got faster but i still coudnt get faster than all the black guys in my weight class. ill tell you though if i land a straight or a hook there arent to many people that i have boxed that dont fall back on it. anyway..... you might be able to be as fast but why would you want to be as fast? why not faster?? there is no team in boxing. YOU are the only person trying to better yourself. work hard and be faster than srl. best of luck!

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
Postition can beat speed .Exact ringcraft .IF you know where to be,how to get there safley and the reason you need to be at a certain position in relation to where he want you to be; then the faster isnt going to able to touch you with as much power anyway and you will have him off sided and turning to find where your at constantly, which will slow him up even if he is naturaly faster. Position/distance/engagment or disengament or control over one or the other of the two sides to a fighter.
Putting questions into a fighters head that are not there when he is having the fight his own way, by control over his balance points and gaining the advantage position will slow anyones game .Pain will slow him too if you make him pay for the time the question popped in. Key is to exploit his position and his style with your natural abilites.
You just have to know them before you can put them into practice.

it's all about genetics......I'll never run a sub 10 second 100m...even with steroids.....but as far as hand speed goes the more relaxed you are the faster you will throw......not as fast as sugar ray....maybe 75-80% though....maybe more...it's all up to your genetics...if not, blame your parents....if you can, it's because of all your hard work!!!!!!!!! ;D

That to me is the key to boxing, at this stage anyway.
Last night at the gym I did a couple of rounds with a tricky southpaw who usually gives me big problems - he's stronger and faster than me, with pretty good technique. I've tried a few things that haven't worked, his right jab is quick and hard so I have a hard time reading it, let alone countering.
Last night,I started stepping back just slightly as he was shaping up with it and countered with a stiff left hook. Three times this happened and, all of a sudden, he wasn't game to do the same thing that had always worked before for him. I had leveled the playing field by putting doubt into his mind. He still won the rounds by being busier, but I looked heaps better than I have done against him.
Hemingway once wrote that boxing is the most honest conversation two men can have, but I don't think old Ernie ever laced them up. It seems to me boxing is like chess or high stakes poker - the bluff is just as important. That doubt that Andre talks about is so important. Without it, you just have that Buddy McGirt/Howard Davis fight that was on this board a while back - annihilation.

Could you be as fast as an olympic 100m sprinter? No. They have a gift that you don't.

They have a passion for training constantly. Whereas I'm probably no more willing to spend more than an hour or so running, they're willing to spend all day training.

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
doesn't matter. you'd never get there.

About four miles from where I live Paul Hession bases his training.
He's a skinny white guy from Athenry, yet he's going to the Olympics as he's top class. He's parents are fat from lifestyle.
It can be done, but training must start at a young age and mentality is important.

Re: Is it possible for me to become faster than Sugar Ray Leonard?
without question, wanting it and training for it can help.. a lot. But you also have to have some natural ability to go with it.
My dad could run like the wind. I'm slow as shit, and I wanted desperately to be fast.. I even worked with sprinting coaches. I got faster, but was never as fast as he was. He had it, I didn't.

Very strange that.
Environmental factors would take their effect I guess.
Didn't you mention you had a problem with your leg?

Not to mention it can also be HOW you train. Like my old weight training coach used to say! "You wanna work hard, but working hard alone ain't enough. You wanna work better, you wanna work SMARTER"... :)

One can work too hard.
Training smart is the way.
I've trained like an animal for long periods for dedent results. Lately I've trained less in different ways for short periods and seen much more.
