Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I am fed up with hearing Margarito and his promoter constantly going around demanding fights with the top men and claiming that when they are turned down that its because they are feared. Surely the best way to get these big money fights is to just continuously beat opponents.
Margarito's CV isn't exactly full of big names. I'm sure that his supporters will say that is because the big names don't want to fight him, but why should they, he hasn't proved himself. He needs to fight fighters who used to be at the top and look good or fighters that his current rivals have recently fought and look better than them.
Sure he is a live opponent, but then why would PBF or ODH take a risk fighting him, when they can make a shed load more fighting each other. For them there is no upside in fighting Margarito.
If Margarito gets the fight that he's clamouring for and gets soundly beaten, then he will be soon forgotten and we will all be left wondering what the big deal was about. Margarito has not done anything to prove himself to be in that class.
Now ODH said that they offered him a fight with Winky Wright but Margarito didn't want to know. I'm sure that his camp will say that it was because the offer wasn't good enough, but if they were so sure about their man's ability then it shouldn't be a problem. What better way for Margarito to make his point than to beat Winky Wright. This is the fight that will get him the big money. ODH has also put forward Smith and Omma. Both would add stock to Margarito's claims, and to be fair who will he be fighting instead and for how much?

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
And im beginning to agree too. We can all accuse Floyd of not fighting A fighters fight in fight out, but at the same time its a much better resume than Margaritos...

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
Arum is a hypocrite!!!!!
He says that he tries to get guys to fight Margarito but that they decline
OK. He wants to fight Winky, and Wright says give me more money then the 4 million Arum offered. Arum offers Floyd 8 million and Floyd says know so Arum withdraws everything...why DIDN'T he just offer the 8 million to Wright? ::**

Isn't Wright co-promo-ing with Oscar now? Yep.
Watch how many fighters Arum turns down & uses that excuse with Margarito's best interests in hand.
Total douche bag.

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
see Margarito calls people out but if they respond he says to talk to Arum and Arum makes sure he undersells the fighter or something and then get Margarito a nobody and then say that nobody wants to fight him ::**

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
It was fine for Margarito to go to 154 to fight a nobody liks Santos, but not to fight Wright. With all Margarito's talk & no action he's beginning to piss me off

your diatribe lacks truth and substance because:
1. not only Margarito supporters but most commentators provide the list of top that are unwilling to fight Margarito such as Mosley, Mayweather, Judah, Baldomir, Winky, Oscar etc….
2. Maragarito Called out Winky first with a fair deal ($4 miilion) and Winky turned it down. http://www.tigerboxing.com/articles/...aid=1001244917 Now the Winky and Oscar team try to save face offer a ridiculously small portion that I don’t recall but much much smaller portion http://www.badlefthook.com/story/2006/7/2/185226/0063 .
3 The only fighters really calling out Margarito are Clottey and Williams but Margarito would be wise to focus on fighting someone with at least a title although he is also after higher ranked Quintana http://www.badlefthook.com/story/2006/7/2/185226/0063

Well the fans all want to see Margarito fight the other welterweight title holders so their backin out speaks much louder than your opinion ever will.

I doubt it. Little by little all these Margarito groupies with atleast some brains will realize there backing a barely B fighter. The real dumb ones will never realize. So go ahead and keep backing.

Actually certain people just know true grit when they see it be it a B boxer (like Pacquiao, Marciano etc......) or not.

I would never trust any promoter but to say that the 4 million was never offered by Arum and yet defend Winky/Oscars measley offer to Margarito means that you cant accept reality.

Neither your statement nor Winky's offer make any sence because Winky ruined the opportunity for both fighters to make more than they ever have.

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
Margarito won't fight Wright, he seems only intent on getting a big money fight with DLH, but he must realize to DLH he is only a small fish. Margarito needs to fight & beat some top guys i.e. Collazo, Quintana, Smith. Then maybe he would be an atttractive fight for DLH. At the moment it ain't worth DLH's time

Here, straight from fightnews, a Margarito response to when Rivera called his bluff
WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margaritio has responded to the call out of WBA junior middleweight champion Jose Rivera:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I won't take anything away from you. I won't question who you've beat to win your titles, or why you still have to work a full time job time when you are a three time world champion. I won't question any of your credentials, but it seems like you're very insecure of your status in boxing. I know who you are, where you're from. There's no need for the bio.....I accept your challenge the same way I accepted Cory Spinks' challenge," writes Margarito, "but I'm also going to tell you the same thing I told Spinks, 'You need to speak to your promoter and have him call mine.' It's that simple, have Don call Bob. If this fight does not materialize, you need to know it was because your promoter did not make the phone call. If he doesn't make the phone call, you should thank him for helping you to keep your title a little longer."
--Antonio Margarito, The Most Feared Man In Boxing
Same ole bullshit "speak to my promoter" nonsense, he knows Bob wouldn't let him fight Rivera ::**

No kidding, but he was offered a fight with Wright. If he fights Quintana I'll be impressed. But he don't wanna fight some good & he ain't getting Floyd... hey what about Cosme Rivera theres a big name!!!

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
To people who say he's overated, he hasn't even had a chance to prove himself against the elite, don't tell me about he doesn't deserve his shot cos of the way he fauight against Santos because Floyd wasn't exactly convincing against Castillo was he?
All I'm saying is that you can say Margarito is overated when he is beaten by at least a B+ fighter, personally if he can't get a Mosely/Mayweather/Hatton/Winky then I'd love to see him fight Kassim Ouma. That would be a terrific fioght because Kassim could very conceivably box him for 12 rounds straight, but also has a slight vunerability in his chin, thus giving us a Bull vs Matador style fight which I love to watch, very ala Sam Peter vs Wlad but without the height difference.

I don't wanna speak for others but what I'm trying to say is Margarito talks all this talk about no one wanting to fight him, but instead of trying to secure a fight with someone with some credit like Ouma he goes out & signs to fight a Cosme Rivera. Not the sort of thing you do if your trying to prove how feared you are. Fight someone the fans wanna see you fight or at least someone the fans will give him respect for!!!

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
Its all very well saying that they only got a meger offer to fight Winky, but that is the way of the fight gain, you have to pay your dues. This "meger" offer will still be the best pay day of his career, and certainly more than he would be getting for his next fight. Surely both he and Arum can see that by beating Winky they will then get the keys to the treasure chest. The only justification that explains all the facts is that they arn't that confident about beating Winky, and realize that by loosing that fight there will be no more big fights.
If they realize that the hype is actually better than the fight himself, then he will loose against top opposition, and it would only make sense to get the biggest payday out there possible.
They say that Margarito came up the hard way and all he needs is a chance, well the chance is there and he's saying they arn't offering me enough money.
Money is made at the top, not on your way up!!!

Why would PBF fight Margarito now? Margarito himself would like to fight ODH for the payday, and nobody can argue that he deserves a shot ahead of PBF. ODH is the golden goose, and he only maybe has a couple of fights in him. It makes total sense for PBF to be after him and not want Margarito.
Remember boxing promoters arn't always the most truthful of people, and just because they say so doesn't actually mean that is what happened ;D

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
To whoever said Tony has signed to fight Cosme Rivera....errr,that fight has yet to be made and it is a mandatory although I hope he does not take it. It looks like Tony will be fighting Clottey which would be another dangerous match as Clottey was beating the current "man" Baldomir easily until he was DQed.
And to whoever said you pay your dues,I suggest you go and check your history about Margarito, pro since 15,faced everyone he can etc etc, that's paying your dues.

Excellent points CC. The only thing I disagree with is going up to 154,all the big fights are at 147 and I'd prefer him to stay there and fight dangermen like Collazo,Quintana etc etc. He is headlining December 2 with Cotto so that's a chance for Tony to gain even more exposure.

I totally disagree because if mandatories were inforced by a more powerful commision then guys like Mayweather wouldn't be able skate through all the devisions and would be forced to fight the toughest competition. It seems that in most sports winners eventually face other winners for ONE championship and the managers and cable networks have nothing to sat about it.

My response is that rivera is in a higher much less exiting weight clas, he was beaten by Collazo, is relatively unknown and no one has much interset in seeing the fight.
AND you are grabbing at straws.

It's that simple, have Don call Bob. If this fight does not materialize, you need to know it was because your promoter did not make the phone call. If he doesn't make the phone call, you should thank him for helping you to keep your title a little longer."
--Antonio Margarito, The Most Feared Man In Boxing
Same ole bullshit "speak to my promoter" nonsense, he knows Bob wouldn't let him fight Rivera ::**
no response eh ;)
My response is that rivera is in a higher much less exiting weight clas, he was beaten by Collazo, is relatively unknown and no one has much interset in seeing the fight.
AND you are grabbing at straws.
You Margarito fans use so many excuses to keep your fighter legit ::** Yet if someone said the same thing about Margarito fighting someone you would say he was "ducking" Margarito ::**

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
Honestly Margarito is a good fighter, but he's not GOD, nor close to it, YES he may have what it takes to beat Floyd, but definately not everyone! I'd like to see him fight Oscar at 154 or Ishe Smith

And to whoever said you pay your dues,I suggest you go and check your history about Margarito, pro since 15,faced everyone he can etc etc, that's paying your dues.

So Margarito against Winky Wright, Kassim Ouma, Alex Garcia, Ike Quartey, Vernon Forrest or Spinks wouldn't be big fights at 154? All there is at 147 is Mayweather. And maybe Quintana. The real big fights are at 154.

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I don't see what the fuss is about Margarito. He looks really good against fighters that are one dimensional. How will he look against someone who knows how to duck?

I said Margarito had signed to fight Rivera... sorry was meaning talked about fighting Rivera, who gives a sh*t if he's a mandatory, belts don't mean S***. Should have fought Wright & tried to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
I totally disagree because if you don't fight an underseving mandatory they strip your bogus title, most fighters want to fight the best so why should they fear having a crap belt taken from them because they wanna fight a top guy & someone the fans wanna see them fight.

Clottey looked unimpressive last night. A B fighter, maybe a B+. Margarito ought to beat him, but it wouldn't prove much if he did. I'd much rather see him against Quintana or Collazzo, or to go up to 154 and fight people his own size.
