Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton
http://www.secondsout.com/usa/lusal....s=473&cs=20078
By Ant Evans: No big name fighter wants to go out on a loser and it will surprise no-one that Arturo Gatti, the fading two division world champion who made himself a folk hero to millions with his blazing style, is considering one final fight after suffering his latest defeat.
Gatti, now 34, was beaten down in nine rounds by welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir on July 22. Gatti boxed well early on, he was quick of hand and nimble on his feet and yet, even against a relatively light puncher like the Argentinean, his balance was overthrown whenever he took a clean shot.
Despite giving everything he had left, the 'Thunder' failed. And, yes, Gatti has come back from losses before to reinvent himself at a higher weight or with a modified style but with his punch resistance obviously floundering it was assumed that Gatti would be retiring from boxing.
However, Gatti's trainer Buddy McGirt told SecondsOut: "Arturo could probably have one more fight. I don't think he'll want to go out like he did against Baldomir."
And according to McGirt, boxing's warrior-born won't be interesting in some glorified exhibition against an opponent selected for slaughter.
McGirt said: "I don't think it would be an easy fight. He would want to go out with a bang, not just ask people to pay to see him and have an easy fight. That's not Arturo.
"He'll pick someone like Ricky Hatton, someone who will really make him fight. That's how he'd like to go out. I think he'd still want to fight Hatton, as long as it was at 147lbs. Arturo can't make 140lbs anymore no matter what (he does in the gym). Baldomir is a huge 147lbs fighter but Hatton isn't. That could still be a great fight."
Hatton, meanwhile, is still considering his options in the wake of the Gatti defeat. The reigning WBA welterweight champion and consensus 'world linear' junior welterweight champion will return to action on December 9 but co-promoters Fight Academy and Banner Promotions have yet to announce whether the Hitman will be defending his WBA 147lbs belt against No.1 contender Oktay Urkal, or move back down to 140lbs (10stone) to face unbeaten Urango in attempt to reclaim the IBF title he was forced to give up several months back.
The later move is thought to set-up an early 2007 super-fight at 140lbs against Jose Luis Castillo.
Although it would probably do well on HBO, whether or not a Gatti fight is still of interest to Hatton remains to be seen.
But McGirt still believes that, against a smaller man than Baldomir who doesn't have the pure boxing style of Floyd Mayweather, Gatti could still upset the Hitman. He said: "Arturo was boxing well against Baldomir. I had the fight even going into that final round but Baldomir was just too strong, there's no ifs nor buts about it.
"It wasn't that but when you fight a bigger guy, y'know, if he drops water on the rock for long enough the rock will break. But Hatton isn't a bigger man."
This disgusted me so much that I wanted to start a poll over it...just to see what you all thought.
Please...answer with whatever you want...but for the record...the above read is gotdam ridiculous IWO!

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
I love it. Maybe not the best matchup but....it would be a WAR. Possibly a FOTY just because of the styles. If he wants to go out with a bang, go out with Hatton ;) He obviously isn't intent on going out on top, just with a war. Love it.

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
i think it could be a fair move for both, they both respect and like eachother , and gatti wants to win against hatton and quit and hatton wants to beat one of his heroes, although i dont know what it will come to as hatton had said this wont happen now that he lost think bout it tho gatti is dont and its another fairly easy big name on the record!! good luck to gatti on findin a fight to quit on, jus dont think he'll beat hatton at this time.

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
He already went out with bang? ;D
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
Now I'm not saying that Gatti has earned this fight based off his Baldomir fight. I'm not saying this fight has any signifigance for Hatton, it would just be a great fight. I mean, Hatton has more legit opponents out there waiting for him but this would be a great fight so I wouldn't be upset if it got made.
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
a fight that would be a real thrill would be Arturo Gatti -vs- Ben Tackie,
a slightly more competitive match-up. I think Hatton's work rate would over whelm Gatti. where as Tackie is aggressive , but not stuck to you like Velcro. Gatti could take a step back and catch his breath from time to time, what do you guys think?
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
I disagree with this fight being made. Gatti is battle worn,it would be bad for him and what would beating this Gatti prove?? I think Hatton would stop him.
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
gatti is gonna hurt himself
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
good idea even though he will lose its a good idea
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
Gatti will have an even first round..
..but will stopped inside 4 rounds.
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
Apparently...I'm the only one that's with Wacko...this is total bullshat!!!
Gatti just got knocked the fwock out! He looked horrible against Baldo & I might add...he looked even worse against Mayweather...so everyone's gonna scream for him to fight Hatton?
Fwock that horse shat!!! If you all want to see an all out war...a real fight...then you should be clammoring for Hatton to fight Collazo again.
A Gatti Hatton fight would end up being an even bigger steaming pile of poop than the Quartey robbery we were all subjected to!
I tell you all...you are on further notice! Wacko is watching you all in bewilderment!!!
What can I say? I'm bewildered.

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
I basically agreed with you Wack,Gatti can't keep getting these shots!!! Look at how many he has had and at this stage in his career,it's a bad bad move.

:coolclick: Agreed.
There is no sense in this fight other than HBO's greed, cable revenues, & the fighter's cashing in.
Gatti has no title...Baldo's got em. Hatton should be trying to secure a fight with Baldo...unless Floyd actually has that fight in the bag.

Someone needs to tell Hatton... "What happens if you lose to him? How will you explain yourself?"
Not only is foolish for Gatti, but what the hell would Hatton risk getting caught with a good one and KO'd by a man who will retire after the fight even if he wins it.
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
Hatton is not the superb boxer that PBF is, nor is he the big and stronger fighter that Baldomir is.
The logic for Gatti to have a go at Hatton isn't quite as weak as you want to make it, Wacko. While I have always agreed with you that Gatti is not an elite boxer - I've also given him a bit more credit than you.
You say he's a club fighter. I say "Yeah but it's a durn good club he belongs to."
Chances are Hatton will beat him handily.
But is it necessarily so? Nah ... and I'd be cheering Gatti. Just because.
Let's get them in the ring together and find out.

LOL Take it easy mate !Your right on brother.. Gatti is over for the most part , i would still watch him fight tho, he is exciting, even if he gets knocked the f@@@ out !

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
::**
Gatti is not the better at punching than Hatton.
Gatti is not even a good boxer, average, below average at most.
Gatti will lose within 12 rounds cause Hatton can hit him easy.
Getting hit alot and hard means losing. Gatti will lose.
And you KNOW it!

I still say Gatti -vs- Tackie is the fight that make sense. great action and somewhat winnable for Gatti. he can go out with a bang this way. and please the fans at the same time !

I just think it would be an entertaining fight. I think Hatton would win and look good doing so but...still it would be a great fight. I'm all for great fights. Personally, I think Hatton should rematch Collazo, especially after he said he would unless he goes to 140. Anyone other then Collazo at 147 (with some exceptions of course) is garbage. Cotto, Floyd, Gatti I would make exceptions for though. Cotto because....no explanation needed. Floyd because he is the best. Gatti because it would be a great fight.
Never said Gatti earned a Hatton fight and I don't think he beats Hatton but...it would be fun while it lasted.

It would be exciting but it sells me short for these reasons:
Gatti has done nothing to earn a shot
He is battle worn, beating him would prove nothing.
If the fight is at 147,I'd much rather see Collazo get the rematch he deserves and it would make it seem as Hatton is ducking Collazo if he fights Gatti at 147.
Hatton talks about his legacy, err, this fight does not add to his legacy at all in my opinion.
The ONLY reason I would be happy with Hatton taking this fight is if he has NO other options but he does:cOTTO,Floyd or if he's not ready for them,go to 140,get a title for your fight with JLC.
This fight lost alot of it's appeal after the beating Baldo gave Gatti.

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
it more and more is looking like Gatti just wants to die on his feet in the ring, or die on the mat, i honestly don't want to see him catch another beating

Hatton dosen't need Gatti, apart from the payday that is...
JLC vs Hatton....now that's what i'm talkin about!

Gatti should not get a fight with Hatton. Gatti should retire IMO before he gets brain damage.

Cool Click Ragu.I did not look at the fight from that perspective. A win for Hatton over Gatti would increase his popularity/exposure with the average American boxing fan right?? It would make him money and I guess he would be fairly confident he could win.

I'm not sure this fight would sell as a PPV anymore. Hatton's not a big enough name in the US and most people want Gatti to retire. I agree it would give Hatton more exposure if it played for free on HBO. As dumb a fight as it would be, more people would watch it than Hatton-Collazo I (or II, for that matter), if not just for the cringe-factor of seeing Gatti lose a few more brain cells and teeth. Although it would give Hatton more exposure though, it would do nothing to make people who don't know him think he's any good.
-
Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
I think it's plain awful that Gatti's team are even considering him fighting on.
Besides Hatton and Gatti are great friends and have hung out together - Hatton was his guest at his home when he faced Mayweather.
We all know Hatton would flatten Gatti (even at his peak).
Billy Graham (Hatton trainer) was a commentator on the UK Gatti-Baldy fight and afterwards said it would be cruel for Gatti to fight on now - and anyone he fought him would be a bit sick really, that Gatti don't deserve that after what he's given boxing.

Because this fight happenening in New Jersey would be like the Superbowl....Gatti will still fill the Boardwalk to Capacity....From a dollar standpoint makes sense(no pun intended) from a what does the Boxing community have to gain, well since when does the higher ups really care about anything other than lining their pockets...But it might be entertaining

Re: Gatti wants to go out with a bang - v Hatton!! Bwaaaaaaaaah ha ha ha!!!
I wouldn't mind this fight being made, if it's at 140 it will be a war. Remember Gatti was in his fight with Baldomir although he seemed to get hurt with almost every shot the fight was pretty even until the end. I don't think Hatton will do that sort of damage with each punch. This would be a great treat for fans as I feel it would be a total battle. Hatton should stop Gatti though, but Gatti's heart could carry him til the final bell
