Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
De La Hoya Takes Verbal Shot At Roy Jones!
By Rick Reeno
Throughout the years, Roy Jones Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya have been the two fighters that fans have debated over time and time again. The debate was usually about who was the better fighter and who was the real pound for pound king. Roy Jones has taken many verbal jabs towards De La Hoya over the years, Oscar De La Hoya has never answered back until now.
In an interview done a few years back with Esquire magazine, Roy Jones blasted what he called "HBO's Golden Boy".
"Oscar De La Hoya can kiss my ass. The Golden Boy. Guaranteed, I'd beat him and two or three more of those motherf**kers in the same day" said Jones.
Oscar De La Hoya, finally struck back at Jones when recently interviewed by the media.
"Of all these tough guys I've fought, no matter what else you say, you can never say I was dominated. Never. Look at Roy Jones. He said a lot of stuff (about me) through the years, but he winds up getting knocked out (in two round by Tarver). Say what you want, but nothing like that has ever happened to me." said De La Hoya.
Most insiders feel that the rivalry started because Roy Jones was angered over how HBO was giving "special" treatment to Oscar De La Hoya. Jones felt that Oscar was always given the big money and all the big pay per view dates and HBO kept giving him the shaft when it came to money and pay per view.
Jones has felt that HBO has done next to nothing when promoting his pay per view bouts and at the same time, he feels that HBO does everything they can to promote Oscar De La Hoya pay per view cards.
Oscar has always stated that Jones does little to promote his own cards, so why should HBO go out of their way to accommodate him. Jones does no-show many press conferences and has been labeled by many opponents as a guy who does nothing to promote their fight. It was no secret among most in HBO that their two biggest stars, Jones and De La Hoya, did not like each other. HBO must have been going nuts because the two fighters are so far apart in weight that HBO could not bank off of the rivalry.
I'm sure that we can expect more jabs thrown by both men as the battle of egos will more then likely never stop.

Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Oscar is a little bitch. If he and Roy were even close to the same weight class, he would know what it is like to be dominated, humiliated and knocked out cold. I woulda loved to see Roy crush Oscar. And its just ignorant to suggest that Roy was dominated in the Tarver loss, he was winning every second up until that one in a million punch KO'd him. If you wanna say he was dominated, bring up the Johnson fight, if you are a hater. Roy is the Greatest of all time, and beat all his rivals in his prime. Oscar lost to many of his.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Oscar is exciting to watch.. more so then Roy Jones, i think that was why Oscar was favored by HBO . it was not because Oscar was better but because Oscar was more crowd pleasing.. you got to admit, lots of Roy Jones fights were snoozers . That's my opinion.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
lol
Well Oscar, nobody is questioning whether or not Jones threw his knockout losses ;)
And if Roy had stuck around at 154 from his pro debut and you had fought him YOU would have been knocked out.
And also Oscar Felix Sturm dominated you pretty easily, Bernard Hopkins dominated you too. And so did Shane Mosley, after an even first 6 rounds you were dominated in 6 straight rounds by Shane Mosley if thats not getting dominated I dont know what is. Roy never had 3 decisions handed to him by HBO and why? because the greatest fighters of his decade who Roy fought he dominated and he BEAT Bernard Hopkins who you got knocked out by a body shot. I've Never seen Roy RUN when he was dropped by Lou Del Valle, he got up and fought harder. You got caught in the body by Trinidad and ran the last 3 rounds
Oscar, no matter if you are a bigger draw then Roy Jones Jr, you will never ever BE Roy Jones Jr, in the history of boxing he will be ranked above you.
So shut up Oscar, stop trying to be the Baller27 of the boxing world, Roy(not Josh) IS harder then you..and you just have to deal with it.

Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Well I've been a fan of Roy Jones Jr for a while. And I don't like Oscar coming around like his shit don't stink.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
That's why I am starting to dislike Oscar......
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
I never knew much about the two of them not getting along, mainly because don't live in USA and don't get to watch HBO! but if Roy gave ODLH shit over the years whys all the hate against Oscar 4 giving some back?

Actually Roy himself has been saying he threw his fights to get back at his dad.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
hahah i know this may seem ignorant but oscar and roy are basically the same height and almost the same size. especially since oscars head is so big. so if oscar really wanted to move up in weight when he was younger of course he could have. he just stayed at the lower weights to dominate them. the lower weights also had more p4p competition too. light heavy division never really had that much p4p competition. not even as much as 160 or 168. but i give rjj more props for moving up higher and higher to dominate all the bigger guys and obviously the HW crown. at one point rjj was so pissed that oscar had the better competition at the lower weight classes that he was going to drain and starve himself to fight Tito Trinidad.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Oscar always gave himself a challenge in who he fought but the challenges he had were due to the weight he was at.
RJJ was too young for Eubank, too old for guys like Chad Dawson and so on, and Nigel Benn nearly killed one of his boys so I don't fault him for not fighting him...but RJ tried his damnedest to fight Daruisz and Ottke and I think if he fights Calzaghe he will have a decent shot at beating him.
Either way these guys shouldn't talk shit about each other
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
true but RJJ was so pissed because he said he had to go up and fight a HW and win the crown to gurantee himself 10million when Oscar gets 10million for fighting CAMPOS Fin CAMPOS ahahaha. so yeah i agree with roy there a former middleweight champ going up to win the HW crown should get more than a welterweight fighting CAMPOS haahahha.

As much as I dislike Oscar he got paid because people wanted to see him fight, he had and still has a ton of star power, that's the only thing you can compare, in the ring though there is no comparison. But outside of the ring he was the biggest non heavyweight draw in history.

That's right. Roy was all kinds of ego back when he was top dog, no respect arrogant as hell. that’s until he got his slice of Humble pie... and don't think everybody don't get a slice,, there is plenty of Humble pie for everyone to get seconds and thirds ! ;) nobody can argue that Roy is a great fighter ! the man in his prime was untouchable .
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
HAHA! So many Oscar haters. I love Roy as a boxer...but for anyone to call Oscar arrogant and big-headed when comparing him to RJJ is ridiculous. Lets not forget...Roy still talks about himself in third person.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Oscar is just angry cause god gave him chicken legs

I almost fucking pissed myself when I read this!

Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
RJJ is just jealous of Oscar, he always has been. He should be angry at HBO.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
I would actually pay to see these two go at it but unfortuately Oscar is the one that would back out if challengd to back his words.

You and a lot of others hated Roy for his act. He wasn't truly arrogant and offensive, not when he backed it up every single time. And he never disrespected older fighters of legends like a young asshole named Cassius Clay did. I never saw Roy torturing and taunting an old Mike Mccallum like Clay did to Floyd Patterson. Or discrediting Bob Foster like Clay did to Joe Louis. Roy was the greatest fighter who ever lived and he could afford to brag. Yes he got humbled and maybe he needed it, but I always took his bragging with a grain of salt. It was never malicious.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
If it had been malicious on Roy's part would you still be a fan of his?
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
this may sound cheezy, but when i was at the RJJ vs John Ruiz fight at the thomas and mack center that night RJJ gave me alot of hope and inspiration, cause i was going thru some BS at the time. RJJ a former middle weight champ going all the way up to HW to win the belt really inspired me got me through what i was going thru at the time. After seeing his performance with my own eyes sitting there with a stadium full of fans I say RJJ can say and do whatever the F he wants even if it may be percieved as being arrogant or cocky. that night he could be the cockiest man on the planet and deserved to be!

. CC good read . You make a valid points. No doubt Roy was clearly the best at that point in time. Invincible if you will , but for me personally he got on my nerves, it was his arrogance, how he acted and respond to questions. . So as much as I appreciated his talent and still do, I wanted him to get caught and knocked out by someone during his dormant reign as Champion. I remember thinking I would like him better after he gets beat . Some of his fights were so boring because they were so lopsided, Jones would just wait and counter wait and counter, very effective indeed , but kind of boring to watch from a fight fan perspective. and by Roy’s own admission he did not want to take chances , with his talent he rarely had too . However the by product was often a stale boring lopsided 12 R fight. Thus the fight fans were drawn more towards the Gatti’s and the Delyhoya’s leaving Roy Jones arguably the Best fighter of all time with a lower fan base than should have been the case . I think Roy had the talent to be more crowd pleasing , but he chose to error on the side of caution.
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
Of the two I probably have more repct for Oscra . Not only cuz of the way he fights but for the fights hes taken and the way his career has gone . However I think Jones looked the more invincible of the two
-
Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
I could care less for eother one of them but truth be told...DLH has always sought out the best and Jones has always sought out the safest....As for Oscars comments on Roy being KO'd and it never happening toI think that was to prove a point that though DLH may have lost some fights he was man enough to take a loss while Jones spent more time ducking opp than proving his worth

actually no, Oscar was never dominated, a fat bloated DLH IMO lost to Sturm but it was close, you could even argue for it to be a draw, Hopkins he won basically the first 5 or 6 rounds and then Hopkins, the naturally bigger man then imposed his strength and gradually took out DLH, Mosley in no way dominated, the first fight was very competitive and Mosley although he won clearly it wasn't by much, the second fight DLH clearly won and was robbed big time. Wanna bring up the Jones beating Hopkins, yea he did, he beat the Bernard Hopkins of ten years ago, not the P4P king of the middleweight division that easily dominated both men that have KO'd Jones. Jones would have lost his third fight against Tarver by KO also he was just lucky that Tarver got over anxious and fell through the ropes.

I didn't mention the whipping Pernell Whitaker put on him.
I also don't remember Roy needing the judges to hand him fights he lost. Roy was much more dominant when the spotlight came on. And Oscar wasn't even close to Roy on p4p lists and never would be.
Oscar has been dominated by Mosley, it was even. And then Oscar lost 6 rounds in a row, that's not being dominated ???
The Felix Sturn DLH fight WASN'T close. Sturm dominated DLH pretty easily. And Oscar got handed a decision he didn't deserve, can you name me one fight Roy had in which he got handed a decision he didn't deserve? If you want to bring up the Firts Tarver fight(which Roy won clearly) he dominated the last 3 rounds when faced with adversity, and what did DLH do? ran....
And you say Roy was lucky not to get knocked out by Tarver in the third fight? If Tarver hadn't fell over the ropes that Roy would have been KO'd? Well then if Quartey and Whitaker wouldn't have been robbed, then Oscar would have 2 more losses wouldn't he?
So what if it was the Hopkins of 10 years ago? Fact is the fight was 10 YEARS AGO!! And Roy(for a supposed glass chin) took Hopkins best shots at a time when Hopkins fought a style that went for the knockout each and every round. Do you think Hopkins would have ever outboxed Roy Jones jr? Remember it was the Roy Jones Jr of 10 years ago too, Roy was as finished a product as Hopkins was and both didn't hit their style peak until later on.
Roy took Hopkins best shots and didn't fall, and Oscar got knocked out.
And like I said, nobody questioned Roy or thought he threw his knockout losses. People question DLH's because of the shot from Hopkins. And I've never seen Roy run from an opponent, he may have not traded with them 24/7 but he never ran. Oscar ran and won decisions by running.

Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
I respect DLH much more than I do Jones. Sure Jones was the better fighter but DLH seemed to do a lot more for the fans than Roy. Oscar took on a lot of big fights, when for the last few years Jones feasted on creampuffs. Roy was a real talent but didn't always put himself against the best challenges out there.

Roy fought and beat much better fighters than Oscar did period. And to answer Samson 3000, if Roy's arrogance had been malicious would I have still been a fan? Well I'm a HUGE Mayorga and Toney fan, so WTF do you think? ;D

Roy's a soft chin? why is that? Cause the huge puncher Tarver knocked him out? Tarver is a HUGE puncher! And so was Lou DelValle. The johnson punch was on the temple NOT the chin. Consider that Roy started his career a super welterweight and it took a Light Heavyweight to finally knock him out. oh yea Roy has a chin made of glass ::**

Tarver bearly breathed on him, face it Roy can't take a shot anymore. My Mum would hit him with her handbag & he'd go down.

are you talking about the second fight where he nearly knocked Roy's jaw out of his mouth. Or the 3rd fight with the right hook that Tarver put all of his momentum into that Roy never saw coming? You know, the one that Hopkins MADE SURE he avoided?(in the 10th round Tarver tried it on Hopkins after Hopkins dodged the 2 lunges)

I like ya man, but you are forgetting a few things. 1. Three of the 5 Oscar opponents you named, he LOST to. 2. Roy's list of victims also includes: Vinny Paz, Virgil Hill, John Ruiz, Reggie Johnson and Tarver the first time.

People will back RJJ but 'y'all musta forgot' RJJ is one of the most arrogant and egotistical and also annoying talkers in boxing, and I much prefer oscar to roy.

Re: Oscar talking ishhhh about the great RJJ!!!!!!!
They shouldn't be talking trash to each other because they're both very good fighters.I respect Roy for his enormous talent(PROBABLY better than De La Hoya),but I respect Oscar for taking on all of those world class fighters and his heart.
So they shouldn't be trashtalking cause they ain't no concurrents cause Roy's first pro fight was at 71 kg and Oscar's was at 60 kg
