Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
I've been out of it for awhile. ;D I was just wondering if this is true. I thought that Klitschko was scheduled to
fight someone else.
How does Briggs get a title shot after fighting nothing but straight off the strett panhandlers that have been given
a mouthpiece and boxing gloves.
Nevertheless, it should be interesting. Briggs will have to execute something quickly if he has a chance. He'll have
to throw caution to the wind and go right for the KO. If he can't do this, Klit will take him out. :lickish:

Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
yeah personally id rather see unification then Wlad fighting anyone else. or avenging his losses to Lamon or even Corrie would be sweet too!
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
I think Briggs will be a good fight. His attempt against Lennox Lewis was awesome. The guy definitely has power. If it wasn't for the WBC and Don King, a unification match between Rahman and Wladimir would be just what the division needs for clarity. I guess Rahman gets to survive for a little while longer. That is if he doesn't go down like a chump against Maskaev again.
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
i dont think it will be easy for him he will prolly stop briggs like lewis but it wont be walk in the park thats for sure
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
It'll be tough for 4 rounds but Shannon will be nervous, he'll tire out, and Wlad will dominate with his jab.
Shannon is not great right now but considering how the Ibragimov's and every other would be "challenger" have done he is going to give a better fight than those guys

true...and unless briggs comes in at 240 or so this fight could be over in the 5th or 6th round....
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Briggs hasn't tipped the scales below 240 in the last 5 years. Reports are coming out that this fight is failing through, and there is a possibly a unification match set up with Rahman or Sergei instead in November. Keep ya' posted.

I present to you as exhibit A: Samuel "the Nigerian Nightmare" Peter.

Agreed...but honestly...I like the thoughts of this fight...Wlad has a lot to lose if he loses & very little to gain if he loses...or wins.
But it's two big massive heavies...& Wlad's team is looking at it like a tune up more or less.

I agree with Lyle more. First few rounds will be tension filled...but Shannon will gas out & Wlad will roll him over.

Disagree here...Rahman vs Wlad would be great...& yes...the other guy's are pretty much crap right now.

Well actually Wlad wasn't the IBF champ then, so Peter didn't get a title shot, Wlad was coming off a KO loss in his last big fight before that.. It's not quite the same. But Briggs and Peter are about the same calibre right now imo.

Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Wladimir can never beat Corrie Sanders. There is no one who could prepare him for such fast precise hard left hands. I would love to see a rematch.
James Toney can never beat Corrie Sanders. Just imagine. The man is huge and fast and neve never goes down. (Remember ever IRon Fist couldnt knock him down.) Corrie is not an idiot like Rahman who stayed within the distance of fat toney (why?) Corrie is like WK in that he takes steps back to use distnance.
Golota would get very nervous against Corrie and that would settle it. A nervours Golota is a stiff.
Byrd could never beat Corrie.
Rahman could possible fight him even.
Remember it was VK himself who had to beat Corrie.
Long Live Sanders. Remember his great fights.

Well actually...Peter is competing against JFAT coming up just around the corner for the IBA's title & also for the right to face off the winner of the WBC Heavyweight bout between Rahman & Maskaev.
That's actually what I was talking about.
What's quite the same is that Peter & Briggs have both been running on some bum beating of late & neither one deserves to face Wlad...but then again...that's actually just Wacko's erpin-urn. ;D

Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
In recent memory only
VITALI and RAHMAN have beaten Corrie Sanders. MY ARGUMENT IS THAT THOSE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO COULD.
It took them 7 nd 8 rounds to achieve TKO.
What did Sanders to after Vitali WHY IN THE WHOLE WORLD DID HIS MANAGEMENT HAVE HIM FIGHT VITALI AT THE HIGHT OF HIT MIGHT? HE WOULD STILL BE CHAMPION TODAY IF HE HAD faught Byrd, Toney, Holyfield, etc,
Well the first thing he does is to KO Varakin in 2nd round (knocking imdown after a couple of seconds in the first).

Well I meant aside from the other title holders.
Take a look at the "Contenders" out there
Sultan
Timor
Brock
Austin
Ruiz
Thompson
Scott (interesting because he hasn't been battle tested yet)
Chambers (same as above but for some reason I think he'll do well)
Dimitrenko (same as above)
McCline
Minto
Chagaev
Maskaev
McBride
As you can see there aren't many superstars waiting for shots.
How do we fix this predicament? EASY
#1 Title Unification Tournament
#2 During this unification the challengers should fight each other on the undercards to clear up 1-10 spots for after the unification
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Seriously I know that Corrie is retired, so IF there is a unifaction bout:
Which will be the first unification bout?

Nate Tubbs knocked Sanders out in two rounds...but the fact remains...& everyone laughs at Wacko all the time for this...Sanders was one of the heaviest handed & feared men over 200lbs.
The guy could crack & he was awesome...but only when he applied himself.
He was coming to the end of the road as far as age & shape goes...& management capitalized on the biggest fight that was out there for him financially...he's a golfer now, babe.
Crying fwockin shame.
Welcome to the forum. Have the Obligatory Wacko Welcome Wagon :coolclick:

Agreed. Also...I wasn't trying to one up you with the "Rahman vs Wlad would be great" comment...just stating the fact that that would be the best fight out there.
#1: Unification Tournament is just so...I don't know...played out. You know King aint AINT gonna let that shat come to pass. Fwockin douche bag that he is...he still owns 200lbs.
#2: Good idea...but again...KING.

News Flash, Rahman knocked out a younger in shape Sanders ;) And Vitali couldn't even drop and out of shape one who's only training was golf ;)
And you're crazy if you think neither James Toney or Chris Byrd could beat Sanders ::**
And lets not forget what Tubbs did to him ;)

ok Sanders have 3 losses Rahman, Vitaly K, and Tubbs
In this sport u can get cought by a punch and lose it doesnt mean anything. Does it mean that Tubbs is as good as VK? haha
Ok so I still believe that the hardest fight for Corrie in the world was Vitali and that he surely would have been more than a handful for smaller guys given his speed.
You know he could have had a couple of Fun defences against easier opponents 9Ruiz Byrd Williams toney are all easier for him than VK):What boxer in his right mind wants to fight the klitschkos one after the other?
Only three losses: WK has 3 losses too.

Agreed...especially against the upper tier fighters at 200lbs+.

I agree. Prime or no prime...Vitali gave him one hell of a beating.
I think that Sanders would have been hell if he could have been marketed & matched a bit better.

Sure...I would have loved to have seen him agianst Ruiz or Byrd.

Starting to lose me here though. The thing about Wlad's losses are that he's begun to rebound from them.
I just wish that he'd have avenged the losses that he has.

Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Wow!!! This is a fairly well-reasoned thread. :o
I'm offended...since my name and reputation is at stake! >:mad ;D
One thing that I would add:
Briggs has a helluva jab himself. He's demonstrated this time and time again. I think they will both be
very tentative at first. Whoever get's the first crack in puts the other to sleep. Briggs doesn't have much
of a chin himself.
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Briggs has a good jab but Wlad does a good job of establishing his UNLIKE how Lewis did vs Briggs and what that will do is set up a chance to counter Briggs' right cross because you know he'll throw it and once he misses the left hook should be there.
Shannon will be the tenative one because he hasn't fought any punchers lately
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Earnie Shavers could hit hard too, but what the fuck does it prove?
Yeah Sanders rocked Wlad but he didn't "put him to sleep" he just kept knocking him down...it ain't like he was knocked cold or anything
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
Vladimir ought to say:
"I'm champ, but I got a lot of ground to make up. I got KTFO by Sanders and Brewster, and looked foolish in the process. I got the physical tools to be the best, and dadgumit!!.... I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna fight nothing but the best out there. I'm gonna clean up the division. I'm gonna make people watch the heavyweights again."
But instead, he'll say:
"Well, I'm champ. Let's see how long I can hang on to this belt without fighting anyone TOO good. Oughta be easy, seeing as to how f*cked up the division is. Fight a few bums, wait 10-12 months in between fights, get a few million, and retire and open a deli with brother Vitali. Hmmmm... as long as no one touches my suspect chin....."

My point is not that WK is bad, he is great, my point is that Sanders is/was as good or better. And Lennox Lewis agrees with me.

Well compared to Oleg Maskaev, Kevin McBride, and Owen Beck, how does Shannon Briggs stack up?
And out of Rahman, Lyakhovich, Valuev, and Wlad who KO'd the title holder they fought to earn their belt?

Lennox said those things because he A) Had a promotional intrest in Sanders' fight vs Vitali and B) Didn't want to rematch Vitali
He was good but he never really got in good enough shape

I just watched the Rahman - Corrie fight. Rahman got knocked down, and Corrie was just doing some little ropa-dope he was not being hit really just covering up waiting to counter and the referee decedides to stop the fight.
So he was in good enough shape to beat any one including Lewis, Tyson (perfect for him jabbing hitting hard and being really tough) WK, Ruiz, Rahman (who knocked down in 3rd round) Holyfield, or anyone they just avoided fighting him. I BELIEVE THAT Lennox Lewis is honest when he says that he would not want to fight Corrie and that people are ducking him. It was 8rounds of slugfest with VK.
-
Re: Klitschko vs. Briggs?? W.T.F.!"?
It wasn't an 8 round slugfest....well let's rephrase that it wasn't a slugfest for 8 rounds it maybe was one for 4 but Corrie got tired and was getting his shit handed to him by the 6th
and Sanders MAY have been able to beat a lot of guys but he didn't
if the world was ruled by Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda then Big John Tate and Buster Douglas would have been some of the best heavyweights who ever lived

Ok perhaps we agree my only point is that Corrie is as good as Rahman and WK and Golota and Byrd and Ruiz or any other and probably better. I do think that VK is one that he cant beat so I agree; but he could have thought it more carefully and better prepared in any case who can go 8 rounds slugging w VK and still stand? In any case he knocked down Rahman and was then stopped by referee when covering up. I think that Corrie was one of the top 3-4 hw for about ten years and he was improving.
