Margarito new opponent
No more Rivera for Margarito, he is now going to fight Clottey.
-
Re: Margarito new opponent
good, Cosme Rivera was indefensible as a choice and I like Margarito but it was indefensible. Not that Clottey is some world beater but he's solid enough.

Re: Margarito new opponent
Im not sure how good Clottey is Ive only seen his latest fight and I wasn't at all impressed... But we'll see. Hey at least Tony's staying active righht... Oh yeah... His last fight was a 10 second KO of a tomato can 10 months ago. I WONDER WHY NOONE IS CALLING HIM OUT ???
-
Re: Margarito new opponent
Clottey's a rock. I wouldn't be surprised to see an upset. Clottey was beating Baldomir up until getting dq'd. Tough as nails. Good solid fight for Margarito.

The most feared man thing is going overboard, he may never get a Floyd fight, its looking that way more now with Floyd going to 154, but he can get fights, Williams would fight him, I expect Quintana would too, and Baldomir. People will fight him, they just need to start making the fights and stop trying to just get a Floyd fight.

Yea I know he can, but he's not exactly helping his chances of getting the fights he want's by being inactive.. Cintron was his last(and only) real opponent, imo... I also don't know what Williams or Quintana would do anything much for him, it's not exactly the money he want's obviously.. Joshua Clottey is just as good an opponent as any of the 3 you mentioned, as far as Im concerned... Im talking if he want's the big names, the money, he needs to be active, and either on TV or an undercard bout would be perfect.. I mean to be honest Im surprised he didn't get a big fight after his win over Cintron, since many people saw that KO and there was a huge buzz around him.. But that's exactly the point is he needs ot mantain it to warrant a big fight, not beat nobody's on these stupid PPV cards like his latest fight. Will this match against Clottey be televised?? Hope so.

Re: Margarito new opponent
Clottey is a beast for 147 and the only reason he did not look so impressive in his last fight was because he was fighting another beast.

I don't know about that. They both looked very unimpressive. Quintana would be a much better fight. As would Collazo.

True bro Quintana is a diamond in the rough, been following him for a long time now. But this Clottey is gonna be tough to beat. Margarito better bring his A game!

Both looked damn good and damn tough to me. Better than Quintanna IMO. Clottey will be a hard fight for Margarito, though I believe he will win it. Don't see him KO'n Clottey. Josh is a rock hard fighter all around.

Unimpressed with those extremly high punch stats-did you actually see the fight? Your probably just trying to diminish tony's next apponent because he exposed your PBF.
I was impressed with both fighters and feel that all these new coloumbian fighters will get better with U.S. training. Clottey on the other hand took this fight on extremly short notice after Cintron dropped out--he just ran out of steam is all.
To take your own arguments Quintana has fought no one except Julio who has fought no one. Clottey, however has beaten your Baldomir quite severely and Margarito has challenged Quintana but Quintana backed down.

No i don't think so. IMO this is a soft opponent for a man who thinks hes good enough to beat floyd. If floyd picked clottey everyone would have something to say. And i think clottey can win so what does that really say about tony?

I don't thik you have seen Clottey fight, becuase you call him soft and Clottey is anything but. If Floyd picked Clottey,he would be fighting his FIRST natural WW at 147 and he's supposedly P4P number 1 so OBVIOUSLY the standards for judging him are going to be higher than those for Tony. What does it say about PBF when people say he will lose to feather fisted Spinks? Nothing....everyone has an opinion.... And if you think Clottey can win, that shows he is tough and can beat one of the strongest WW around.

Not really cause I think collazo and Quintana can beat tony too. The fact is alot of people rate tony on what they THINK he can do. I rate him on what i have seen him do. I hope he has a great chin cause with his style i can see a few fighters just straight up outbox him.
As far as clottey goes i have seen him fight many times and I think he and tony are on the same level but the thing is clottey is a just another contender and tony is a supposed champion. Considering the experience gap clottey and tony shouldn't be on the same level.

yes, i saw the fight. sam soliman has extremely high punch stats too, and he's a terrible fighter, if you can even call him that. i don't deny that Clottey is "tough," but he also looked seriously unskilled--it was an ugly fight. i haven't seen much else of him though, so maybe he just temporarily forgot how to use defense or through a good jab or move well or box that night.
i don't know how pbf became "mine" by virtue of knocking Clottey, or how Margarito's "exposed" anyone, especially someone he's never fought.

If you dont think Soliman is a fighter then you have no concept of what a fighter is-- did you forget how he banged up Winky's face?
Any true boxing fan should also know that many extremely "successful boxers" have had poor boxing skills.
Your grabbin straws because Margarito exposed PBF's lack of courage.

stop with your nonsense
what do you have to say about all the fights that margarito has been refusing?
i guess paul williams exposed margaritos lack of courage, right?
or does that logic only apply to fighters that you like
mayweather is doing the right thing by taking on the man at 147 (no, i dont mean margarito)
christ, it hasnt even been 5 fights since margarito really was exposed by daniel santos (one of the best out there ::**)
btw...................daniel santos said he would be happy to give margarito a chance to redeem himself
and guess what.....................margarito wants no part of that either (big suprise)

Do you really believe that. Do you really think he didn't fight tony cause he lacks courage? If so then i would say that you don't understand the business of boxing.

Re: Margarito new opponent
Your probably going to back up PBF excuse to turn down $8 million because he thought he was going to fight Oscar for $20 million. Oscar probably knows that there is not much glory in fighting Mayweather or they are both scared of each other.
Or actually it must be that its good boxing business to turn down $8 million to fight a nobody in order to fight, Judah or Baldomir for $3 to $5 million.
Anybody know what he make to fight Spinks? No way will it be $8 million.

The sadder thing is that Margarito isn't making 8 million to fight Clottey either.
I love Margarito, but I'm starting to really dislike Arum, he can make bigger fights happen if he focused on more then Floyd but he seems obsessed that the only big fight he'd let Tony get or that he'd work to get is a fight with Floyd. Why cant he let Margarito build a legacy off of fighting everyone else instead of wanting to put one name on his record and call it a legacy, it didn't work with Rahman and it didn't work with Tarver. Arum needs to stop messing around and let Tony fight the up and comers and good fighters instead of focusing only on PBF.
-
Re: Margarito new opponent
There is one thing I dont get with all of this Margorito talk. He hasnt fought anybody. He fought Cintron but Cintron quit more than Margorito beat him. Yes I have seen the fight and that wasnt 100% Cintron. So he has beat a contender on a bad night, so what. Margorito just needs to shut up and get in there with everybody he can that is rated.

I think Arum realizes that Margarito isn't the "monster" his groupies say he is. He knows Margarito losses against decent fighters. So he's trying to cash him out with a Mayweather fight.

well put.....have a cc
if mayweather and margarito fight, floyd will have 8 mil and another bruseles on his record
if he beats spinks, then he makes something like 5mil plus another world title in yet another weight class
if he beats baldomir, then hes 100% the man at welter (and still gets like 5-6 million)
tough decision

Unfortunately, only Mayweather or Oscar can draw eneough for Arum to offer 8 million. Arum offered Winky more than he has ever made and tried his best to get Judah,
Mosley, and Quintana, to fight Margarito.

there is absolutely NO TRUTH to this statement (as far as the bob arum doing his best to make those fights happen)
sad that you have resorted to lying

Now your just spewing air cause Its old news and announcers, writers and fans have given the list of fighters who have backed down from Margarito.
Juda and Mayweather backing down is very old news http://www.15rounds.com/press/2005/10/102105.php
Quintana has made excuses: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...dan&id=2505780
According to Margarito himself:
The Dog Pound Chat's with the WBO Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito
Futurechamp: With such a devastating win over Cintron, do you think that has left you in a better or worse spot, in relation to future match ups?
Antonio Margarito: This is a good question, one that my management and I have been discussing since our victory over Cintron. Going into the Cintron fight we were constantly being reminded by our Promoter (Top Rank), and the media of how important a victory over Cintron was. This was the fight that would open doors. This was the fight that would put my name on the most wanted list. I remember watching my promoter (Todd duBoef) walking back and forth from my dressing room to wherever else he was going, constantly glancing at us and his watch, not knowing if he should stay or go. I'll tell you this, I've never seen this type of reaction from Todd since I've been with Top Rank, but when I saw this, I told myself there was no way I would let my promoter, family, fans, and team down. I told Todd "don't worry" and showed him my fist, and he smiled. He probably did not understand my English. We went into the fight well prepared with a well planned out game plan that was executed, but I believe it worked against me since it was easily executed. Zab Judah was yapping on how he would fight the winner between Cintron and myself, but when he was asked if he would fight me after his victory over Rivera I noticed there was uncertainty in his answer. As of this point, Mayweather, Judah, De La Hoya, Mayorga, Mosley, Vargas, or Cotto do not want to fight me. I really believe the outcome of my fight with Cintron plays a big part as to why these guys won't fight me. I have no control over this, I get in the ring and do my job. It's up to these guys if they want to continue making excuses for not fighting me, but sooner or later they'll have to run out excuses and face me.

Unfortunately, only Mayweather or Oscar can draw eneough for Arum to offer 8 million. Arum offered Winky more than he has ever made and tried his best to get Judah,
Mosley, and Quintana, to fight Margarito.
WTF???
there is absolutely NO TRUTH to this statement (as far as the bob arum doing his best to make those fights happen)
sad that you have resorted to lying
Now your just spewing air cause Its old news and announcers, writers and fans have given the list of fighters who have backed down from Margarito.
Juda and Mayweather backing down is very old news

Quintana has made excuses:

it takes a little bit more than a victory over kermit cintron to warrant a fight with mayweather.
are you seriously so biased that you are implying that list of fighters are all ducking margarito?
hes not ANYBODY......

Arum knows Margarito would get beat so he is going to make sure those fights don't happen.
