I CANT BELIEVE THIS S***! WHY HOW, WHAT NOW! I HAD VERY HIGH HOPES FOR MY BOY HERE! THE GAME YOU GOT VIDS MAN PLEASE :o
Shocker: Nino upsets Viloria!
Thursday, August 10 2006
By Victor Perea at ringside
In what could be the upset of the year, unheralded Omar Nino (24-2-1, 10 KOs) upset previously unbeaten WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria (19-1, 12 KOs) and seized his world title via unanimous decision on Thursday night at the Orleans Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas. Nino, rated WBC #10 and hand-picked for this voluntary defense, outworked Viloria and beat him to the punch all night, as the "Hawaiian Punch" seemed surprisingly reluctant to attack. In the end, the scores read 117-112, 118-110, 117-111. The loss likely torpedoes a 108lb unification superfight between Viloria and WBA champion Koki Kemeda.

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Kaemeda would have got that decision ;D
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Man I was hoping for a Viloria-Arce match, now it will never be
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I don't know how Brian lost, but maybe I was expecting too much from the guy. Yes, he beat Ortiz in a grand fashion, had some bumpy rounds against Aguirre then went on to dominate and who's this guy Nino. He's supposed to be handpicked for a title defense. Well, that's boxing i remember Pac being a late substitute for Ledwaba and i dont how the hell he ended up fighting MAB he wasnt even a Featherweight then to contend.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
shame :( But I think Vilora will say he overtrained.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Not that big of a shock. Viloria has always been overrated
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
CC for the news,I don't believe it! How did he lose???????????? I thought this kid was going to be unbeaten for a long long time! He'll bounce back.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I can't believe it, looking at the scores it looks like it was totally one-sided. But I never thought he would of been able to contend with Roberto Vasquez anyway.

arce would whoop viloria's ass and both of them know it.
romero is no fluke either. he did stop a young and green arce in 1 rd once though i seriously doubt he can do it again.

nope. he said he just had a bad night. 8)
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Bad night, man... Romero's 2 loses were by KO, I thought Viloria would have been able to catch him. Well it's back to the drawing board.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
It looked to me that villoria got stung with an overhand right in the 1st round and was worried about getting countered from then on.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
Brian is super talented but in the ring he always looks extremely vunerable, I'm not that surprised to be honest. Some fighters, especially champions have an aura of invincibility around them when they fight lesser opposition, Brian is definitly not one of those guys.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
This is indeed a crying shame...but it had to happen sooner or later.

I thought he would be unbeaten until he fought VArce at least and I wanted to see Calderon and the Kameda matches too!!! Maybe a rematch here??

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
You not a Viloria fan Wack?

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
I wasn't surprised. I saw his weakness in his last fight (I mean the one before this one) where he was cornered on the ropes several times, seemingly unable to do anything but just crouching behind the ropes with his head covered with his gloves - clear sign that he was losing his heart in the fight. He definitely has the power, shooking his opponent in the early rounds, but doesn't seem to have the heart to pursue his opponent relentlessly like Pacman. He seemed to be very bothered by the counters of his opponent, as mentioned here by jstrong and I think that was the major reason for his defeat. He just didn't want to take the risk of being countered too much and so wasn't able to score much.

On the contrary, I think he suffered from a syndrome common among champions, which I'll call "the defensive syndrome" (hey, it's mine so don't anyone dare to claim it!) where a champion thinks "I'm on the top so the only place to go is down." Here, the champion's mind is preoccupied with the 'defense' of his crown (belt), in direct contrast to that of the challenger's where he is out to get the crown. This kind of excessively defensive attitude makes him forget that he is out there in the ring to beat his opponent, not just to defend himself against him, as if he is holding his crown under his belly and his opponent trying hard to pry it out from him. When the champion loses his aggressiveness and becomes too defensive, that's a clear sign of the sydrome. Did that make sense, I hope it did.

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
Too bad but I'm not shocked, I was never blown away by his fights coming up on ESPN 2, I can't remember the guys name but one time I even thought he got a bit lucky to get the decision. The only time he's really looked great to me was the Ortiz fight. Be interesting to see how good he turns out.

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
i'd really like to see an arce darchinian fight. all bombs, all night.

It'll be a fight between Arce's heart and Darchinian's power.

I am a bit surprised...the more I think about it.
But then again...I've been shocked by so many things in boxing this year...I couldn't list them all...but in trying...
1: Sturm lost.
2: Hopkins beat Tarver.
3: Oscar KO'd somebody.
4: Morales got KTFO.
5: My kidneys are still functioning.

Is the last one true? Hard to believe!! For me,number 4 is number 1. Yeah,I liked what I saw of Viloria and guess I brought the hype without really analysing him properly(only saw his last few fights and the sparring with Boom Boom)

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
I'd like to think he is coming back though, maybe work on his weaknesses, rematch this guy and then unify with Kameda?

El Phenomena! What kinda name is that! Sounds like the Terribleee huh? You're really the greatest fan of Erik.
Of course I was at first pretty much keen on him, but then, seeing him somewhat looking helpless in the fight before this one (although he did manage to win), I thought I'll have to reassess his ability before he broke my heart, and lucky for me I wasn't that broken hearted yesterday.
By the way, who're you hiding from? ;D

I was talking about THE Aguirre fight! Real strange how two people can come up with a different view of the same fight. But I do think he won it, though not impressive. I thought I've seen his vulnerability in that fight - being pinned against the ropes when hurt. It reminded me of Roy Jones Jr.'s being trapped helplessly against the ropes during his last fight with Tarvers.
-
Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
Na man,I thought he looked vulnerable on the ropes but he as not on the ropes for long. His combos, speed were awesome!! I thought he won easily against a decent fighter.

Yup, setting aside his weaknesses, his speed is really awesome, and he throws his punches in explosive bursts, but doesn't follow 'em up. If he can just keep following up those punches relentlessly, I think he can stop almost anyone in his division, sooner or later. Power-wise, I think he is THE best in the division. But again, if he doesn't use them, what good are they. So I think he should reassess his strategy and try to be more relentless in his attacks. Well, yeah, it's easily said than done, I guess.

Re: VILLORIA LOST NOOOOOOO!!!!
he was outlanded 223 to 113 not a good performance by Hawaiian punch :(

Before you get disappointed, not very impressive; it's just that Brian didn't do much and the other guy just made himself busy. Brian doesn't have much footworks or foot movements (is there a difference between the two?) so he's an easy target. But he wasn't hurt much in the fight, or was he avoiding being hurt? OOps, I forgot, we wear different colored glasses so don't take my word for it, maybe you might find it exxxxxxciting!!!
