Lets be honest,the HW division is in meltdown. :o
Its not the fact that all the abc belts are held by eastern Europeans its the fact that none of them are very good.If they were boxing 10 years ago they would be in the fringes of the top 10 at best.
Today they are the so called champs. :-\
I dont think that the HW from the east are that good,its just that the American HW around today are that bad.
If Lewis made a comeback in the next 6 months or so,how would he do????
if he got in proper shape he would easily dominate again no problem

It all depends on whom Lewis was matched against.
Fundamentally...Lewis would be like Foreman IWO...he wouldn't have lost his skills or his ring ethic...just probably a bit of movement & speed.
I think that Lewis could come back & win some fights depending, again, against who he faced...but honestly, all roads would have to end with a showdown against Wlad.
It'd be intriquing...but I don't know that Lewis could hold out long. If he came back...that would have to be the angle. A few warms up & then a Wlad fight & back to retirement.

[/quote]typically, HWs come into their prime later in life (late 20's early 30's) and by that time most other weight divisions are starting to enter their peak and then down hill by that time....33-35 is not old for a HW but it is ancient for welterweights and the like....

Lewis knew that to continue in the HW division, he would have to go through Vitali, and he wanted no part of it! So if lewis knew he couldnt beat him, YOU SHOULD TOO. lol
it doesnt matter if he was ahead lewis won u really think vitali should gone on and had hes face messed up he would of been scarred for life lewis didnt have that much of training did he ?? and still won so if he would of had proper training he would of koed vitali late lewis was starting to comeback aswell vitali was only ahead by 2 rounds

Not the other way around. Its funny, its like the cut over the eye of Vitaly totally discredits the fact that he was winning the fight, throwing more punches, and lewis punch count was decreasing every round.

SECOND
He turned up the heat vs. Lennox, averaging 72 punches per round and 40 jabs per round (the heavyweight average is 46 total punches per round and 19 jabs per round)
THIRD
He effectively took away Lewis jab, as Lennox averaged just 20 jabs per round
FOURTH
CompuBox stats show that when Lewis throws less than 25-30 jabs per round (he threw 19 per round in the first Rahman fight and 28 per round in the rematch) he's very beatable.
FIFTH
Lewis, throwing just 37 TOTAL PUNCHES per round (remember Vitali threw 40 JABS per round)
SIXTH
Vitali, a 5-1 'dog, landed 155 punches in six rounds and was on a pace to land over 300 punches vs. Lewis. The previous high landed vs. Lewis was 223, by Ray Mercer in May of '96

well if i was him i would think to myself it was hard fight but i won im getting older my skills arent what they once were so ill retire as champion and my legacy still intact along with loads of money and i havent got any serious injuries so if i was him i wouldnt risk it again

thats all, im not trying to say he didnt win, not trying to say it wasnt a smart move to retire with a belt. But i dont think he retired thinking that if he stuck around the heavyweight division he could still dominate.
But were all agreed a prime Lewis wipes the floor with all comers at the moment right?
And on the matter of Vitali. All that was was Lewis on an awful night and Vitali on a great night, and Vitali still couldnt win. And before I hear it was cuts, when someones face is fwocked that bad, its still a legit win.
