Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
14.08.06 - Keith Terceira: Swirling rumors surrounding the next scheduled fight for IBF light welterweight champion Juan Urango has forced Coalition Boxing (Urango Management Team) to publicly answer some questions concerning whether the next opponent will be Hatton or a Golden Boy fighter. Luis Navarro, head of Coalition spent some time with me today and made the following statement..
“It has come to my attention that many boxing fans are speculating that Lazcano or another Golden Boy boxer may be Urango’s next title defense. To set the record straight Coalition Boxing and Juan Urango have no intentions to fight Lazcano or a Golden Boy fighter in the immediate future. No deal has been reached or is one in the works. We are currently gearing up for a defining bout. This fight of a lifetime has already been signed and a tentative date and venue has been scheduled”
Navarro confirmed that the fight of a lifetime he mentions is Ricky Hatton and that the deal is signed and sealed. The bout will happen in Atlanta on December 8th.
“There are no plans to fight any fighter from Golden Boy, the only one we would consider fighting would be Mr. Golden Boy himself. We have had informal discussions with Golden Boy but we have had discussions with 20 people in the 140-147 range including Floyd Mayweather and decided on Ricky Hatton. Urango is young and he is in great shape and will be making his mark before the end of the year. We have had a signed contract to fight Ricky Hatton now for a few weeks. “
Coalition Boxing based in Miami has been focusing on Urango as well as on a stable that will feature 135-147 pound fighters and currently has a working relationship with prospect Richard Abril (5-0 1ko) and co-management interest with John Wesley Jackson (6-0, 6ko’s).
“We are searching for fighters to assist in the lightweight to welterweight range and are actively recruiting Mexican fighters who have reached a level or 10-0 or so that need expert management, with our current crop of fighters we can offer some opportunities that others cannot.” Navarro stated.

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
Urango isn't in Hatton's league.

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
A couple of years ago 140 was the hottest division and now sadly we are left with only one potential mega fight Castillo v Hatton :-\

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
This fight is to much for Urango right now

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
What an absolute joke.. It's so funny that things like this can even happen.. Like we are just supposed to forget that he was easily outboxed and lost the title shot they hand fed him... And talk about a step backwards for Hatton, it would be comical if this bout happens... NEver have I seen a fighter pull such a total 180 without officially suffering a loss.. I mean honestly, if this fight happens, Hatton is basically chickenshit as far as Im concerned... He vacated this very title probably a year ago to move up and get the bigger fights at welter, then he basically loses to an unknown but still escapes with a belt, now he drops back down to fight someone who just did the very same thing... Only Hatton won the very belt legitimately in the first place.

He's the one who said he'd give Collazo a rematch. What happened to that?

I completely agree, :coolclick: both fighters lost their last fights, they both have belts that were gifted to them and now they are both fighting each other because they are scared to rematch the guys who beat them.
If HBO show this they should bill the fight, 'Hit and Run, The Great Belt Robbers Losers Final'.
Personally I've gone from being a massive Ricky Hatton fan to wanting to see him knocked on his a** when he steps up again. If he fights Urango, he's a coward, plain and simple.

Forget about Hatton! Same guy that not too long ago everyone wanted to fight Mayweather now is fighting Urango.
I saw Urangos fight against Ben Rabah (Rabah was robbed BIG time) Urango might have power but he is very sloppy and not at all technical. Rabah didnt have any trouble avoiding Urangos shots (hardly any hit him clean) and Rabah would then fire back with 3,4,5 punch combos. It makes me mad that Hatton is fighting this guy...
Hattons british invasion is worse than I had hoped!

That's pretty harsh on Hatton but I agree. This fight serves absolutly no purpose. For those of you who don't know much about Urango he is currently about a C-level fighter. He has little to no chance vs. Hatton and I hope this is just a rumor cause I'll lose a lot of respect for Hatton if it turns out true.

I hope this is just a stepping stone type fight for Hatton, trying to re-adjust back at 140 on the way to a showndown with Castillo.

Sweet bro, I'm not saying it's a great fight I would have much rather seen him face Cotto or Castillo straight out. But at least Urango is a better option than Urkal IMO

You sure about that?
Id put it on a par, i can see it now Hatton will try and get Witter if he wins the WBC strap against Corley, then Castillo, i think Mayweather and him are going down difgferent paths right now maybe if Hatton can become a big superstar at 140 and hold all the belts maybe we might see it maybe 2 years down the line.
But what i am seeing with Hatton, unfortunatley he has gone from a hungry young pretender who would fight anyone anywhere, to a businees man who is looking out for number one now his bank balance, but thats what happens to you when you can demand $2 million a fight against no bodies.
-
Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
no matter how close it was hatton still won i think hatton edged it on knockdown and dont doubt hatton that was hes first fight at that weight id wait and see hes next fight at that weight before u start doubting him

Which is pretty much what he said that he wouldn't become.
He'll always be "just another kid from Manchester" but honestly...if I was rollin in that kind of cash...I'd be that "rich motherfwocker from Manchester".
Trust me, everyone wants to get out from under & they all have good intentions...but we people throw enough cash that you can actually make a bed out of it...your'e gonna sleep in it.
I just wonder if he can command, secure, & retain that kind of money here in the states now.
We shall see.

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
So since beating Kostya in 05 he's heading into 07 by adding Maussa, Collazo and Urango to his record.
Piss poor.

Its like i say mate him and " Team Hatton " have gone into lets get as much money as possible with little or no risk involved which i hate, he must of nearly made $10 million from those fights mentioned, it is piss poor, and i am the biggest Hatton fan about, and i ahve a strong feeling the trend will carry beyond Urnago when he fights either Witter or Corley, yes Witter would be a great domestic dust up ( exactly domestic dust up) but the should of been settled 4 years ago not now Hatton is a p4p fighter and can really have whatever fighter he wants in and around the 140/147 division.

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
So if hatton believes WW is to much for him, and steps back down to where he can be at is best, thats wrong? thats what most of you are saying?

Can you just point out to me where these guys are ranked in the World Ricky is fighting at the moment? the level of opposistion is the problem mate, there all sub standard world class opponents, maybe 1 out of three fights you get away with but 3/3? Collazo broguht the sothpaw problems to the table in my opinion, but he is not World Class, i would struggle to put him in the top 10 at 147, Maussa is pathetic lets be honest i thought ok let him pick up an easy belt after the biggest fight of his life, but now he is again fighting the poorest champion at 140 and 147? wtf? Why? Hatton is slowly going down the p4p rankings at this rate, have a look at people like Corrales and Castillo and check the resume out over the past years they fight the best around for hand pick the easiset option out there.
I love Ricky to bits but this fight is a joke i couldnt give to shits if the IBF Belt was ont he line, the guy won a gift decision and now Hatton similar to Maussa is coming to mop up the pieces. There are 5/6 guys out there who would make a great fight but it looks like Ricky and his team dont want to risk the 0 and make the $$ while they can which is not good for the sport.

I dont care what weight he fights at I just want to see him in big fights where he belongs. Big fights aint Maussa, Collazo and Urango when theres a whole load of star fighters within a couple of weight divisions.
How come they cant get any of these star fighters in the ring?
Is Urango worthy of another PPV?

by him tuck tail and going back down to 140 how are we supposed to judge him? He has not challenged anyone but PBF(for money) other than that what has he shown us at 147? That he can be hurt by the lightest of punchers? or that the transition is simply too much for him? Either way it can now be assumed that Hatton was and will never be in the leagues of PBF, Baldomir or even Gatti(yeah, I said it!!). at least these guys had the ability to step up and hold their own. I won't bring up past fighters like ODLH, Duran, Leonard etc.....

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
Hatton vs. Urango is excellent Friday Night Fights material!
So is this fight 100% or is there still a chance this travesty might not happen?
This would do piss poor PPV numbers. I'd like to see Hatton get KTFO if he takes this fight! How many "tune-ups" does one fighter need.
And let me say again that Urango's win vs Rabah was a HUGE bs decision....Rabah completely dominated Urango and showed that Urango is one dimensional. Still, i think Urango has some power and he might be able to land some decent shots on Hatton b/c hattons style.
-
Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
id like to see him fight once more at that weight before i start judging mate

Think your jumping the gun judging him like that at this stage, old son. I'm sure he'll happily move back up if the right fights can be made in the future, and considering the best win for the guys you mention as being in a different leauge to him, since moving up, has been against Kostya Tsyzu victims - who I'm sure you know Ricky beat the fuck out of - must count for something?

Bro Hattons opposition has been ranked quite high to be honest, Maussa was #3 at Jr. Welter I think at the time, Collazo was #4 at Welter when they fought, plus Tszyu before those two who was champion ay Jr. W. Urango ain't currently ranked but after three fights against top 10 opposition he can be afforded an easy one.

Kostya did, of course, have a shoulder that was injured so bad that he required immediate major surgery right after that fight. . . . And I wouldn't say "beat the fuck out of" either. I had Hatton up by a point or two when Kostya quit. And Hatton should have had at least one point deduction for all the fouling too. If he's scared to go back to 147 and give Collazo the rematch he promised, let's see him fight Castillo at 140. I guarantee he'll lose.

Re: Urango confirms Hatton fight!!!
Most of u r so quick to rite of hatton just cos hes thought a few lesser opposition recently in Collazo nd maussa and like galaxy said they where top 10 ranked at the time plus Collazo was a step up in weight and a natural WW who is a southpaw. But when cotto fights Branco,Mallinagi,Torres who are supposed to be easy fights he almost gets knocked out by torres then struggles to beat paulie, there all considerd to be good fighters even though torres had only thought in columbia for most of his career nd paulie who most people said would not go past the 6th but not collazo nd why is that cos theres to many hatton hatters who r still sore about him destroying tszyu. Nd when u look at all the great fighters past nd present they all have alot of fights with lesser oppositionos y is hatton being slated so bad for it?

because hatton is a veteran and many people continue to rate him as a top 10 p4p fighter, whereas the general consensus is that cotto is still a prospect and still improving--and no one currently rates him p4p.
