Best punches that didn't......
knock somebody down?
I started thinking about this topic because I just rewatched Hopkins/Trinidad.
I"m sure most people remember the fight but at the very end of the tenth round, best round of the fight, Bernard and Tito were shoulder to shoulder and Bernard threw a right to the body and a beautiful right uppercut, wobbled Tito badly. Im sure most people remember the punch, Tito did a little dance, but didn't go down, and the round ended.
Beautiful punch, not by any means the hardest punch of all time but a beautiful punch.
So I was just wondering what was the best punch you've seen that didn't drop or stop an opponent?

Re: Best punches that didn't......
The right handed uppercuts that Juarez nailed Barrera with in the 9th or 10th round of their first fight.
I just don't get it...I mean...those fwockers were like laser guided 2 ton hammers.

Re: Best punches that didn't......
:coolclick: Good topic. ;)

Re: Best punches that didn't......
can you post that punch for me i wanna see it :)
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
CC, those were nice punches
I'm sure you remember the Hopkins uppercut, beautiful combo, right hand to the body and right uppercut. The only two fighters that I've seen using that combination are Hopkins and Toney but Bernard did it absolutely perfectly, that was the end of the fight in reality. Tito was gone after that.
Actually, and I'm as you know I'm not a Klitschko fan, Vitali hit Lewis with a right hand in the second round of their fight that was the best punch I've ever seen him throw and Lewis was wobbled but not dropped which says something about him not having a glass chin.

I wouldn't even know how to post a a single ten second long clip of a fight, I've got that fight on my computer so I could post the whole thing on youtube but I suspect its probably on there already.
Its at the very end of the tenth round, the ten second bell rang like two or three seconds before Bernard hit him with the combo

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Randall's right cross to Chavez in round two. Chavez'z legs bent to a 45 degree angle.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
All those big right hands Earnie Shavers landed on Randy Tex Cobb. They were all bombs but Cobb soaked them all up.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Klitschko caught Peters with a hell of a shot that had his legs do a shake
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Gatti vs Ward Round 5 that combination at the end of the round by Ward.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
May I, Tyson's body shot followed by a vicious uppercut to Evander in Mike's best round of the fight round 5.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Ruelas right hand uppercut that landed flush on Gattis chin stuned Gatti only to enfuriate him and TKO Ruelas. :o
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
BAsically everything that torres threw to Cotto Those where perfect Shots and for a guy who people say that has a suspect chin handle that incredibly.
Also the MAyorga - Tito Fight wow those where perfect shots including the 5th round.
Forrest - Mayorga 1 Forrest just hit him with a Hammer and the Fucker took it and kept fighting.
Maussa is another that takes Flush Hits and acts sometimes like nothing happened well some of them but Hatton at the 8th 9 th round hit him with something Maussa did not see it coming.

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Collazo hit Hatton with a Perfect left Cross and hatton was stone and did not go down

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Evander Holyfield -vs- Bert Cooper
The upper cuts Evander Holyfield was landing on Bert Cooper. Cooper's head popped up like toast in a toaster, yet he maintained his balance, truly amazing IMO. Wicked Holyfield uppercuts in that fight

Re: Best punches that didn't......
The right hand Alexis Arguello landed on Aaron Pryor in the last round of there first fight. The one that completely snapped Pryor's head back. A sick punch that would of floored most fighters.

Just happen to see that fight this morning.
CC. for that one.
Pryors head snaps back and you can see his eyes out of sync with his head but just comes forward looking in the wrong direction like nothing happened. :o At that point you can almost read it in Alexis body language that he knew there was nothing he could do to hurt none the less stop the 'Hawk' that night.

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Good topic:
A couple come to mind
Joe Frazier's left hook that folded Chuvalo's Eye lid under his eye
The straight Hearns fired into Hagler's chin at the start of the 'War'
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
PAC's right HOOK in the 10th against MOrales before the 1st KD
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Holmes V Tyson
just before the final KD, Holmes goes for one Hail Mary uppercut but gets his hand caught in the ropes. I know it didn't land but it still makes me smile when I think about it :).

LOL, how I could of forgotten that? It led to one of the funniest scenes in boxing history...
5' nothing, 8 (112lbs) stone dripping wet Terry Lawless, trying to literally drag the 16 (224lbs+) stone plus, 6' 3" Bruno back to the right corner ;D
And as I am talking Bruno, there of course two more examples that kind of fall into this thread.
The dozen clean rights he took off of Bonecrusher (before finally falling).
The measured (literally) uppercut and straight right he took of Lennox (before the ref waved it off...)
That is why I always chuckle to myself when people say Bruno had a glass chin...
He had a great chin, he just did not have a clue what to do once he was hit, until somebody suggested he clung on for dear life (much like the ageing Hitman Hearns)
And of course another one I should mention and possibly the most famous 'non' knockout finish in boxing history... Ray Robinson/Jake LaMottaVI; the St Valentines Day Massacre. Ray may not of put him down, but boy did get some sweet shots off trying!

Re: Best punches that didn't......
john mugabis uppercut v hagler in one of the middle rounds, would have put any midleweight ever down except for marvin
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Lewis' uppercut on Klitchko, think it was round 5?
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
I'm not sure if it knocked Duran down but Tommy Hearns hit Roberto with a right uppercut that literally lifted him off the ground.
Vitali's short right in the 2nd that wobbled Lewis
Lewis' 2 massive uppercuts on Vitali
Taylor's right hand on B-Hop in the rematch
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Tommy Morrison -vs- Ray Mercer
early rounds Tommy landed a picture perfect hook to the body uppercut combo. Ray's Head almost came off. but nothing happened, I was amazed how well Ray Mercer took that punch
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Collazo landed a 12th round peach !
Fair play to Hatton, he came forward winging punches after that.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Ibeabuchi walked though the Tua left hook for 12 rounds...
Oliver McCall is perhaps the only man capable of have a mental breakdown whilst tasting Lennox leather and managing to stay upright. ;)

. RE: that Tua - Ibeabuchie fight , Ike was glad that fight didn’t go another round that’s for sure. about R 5 or 6 Tua shifted gears and started pressing the Gas Pedal . I loved that fight .

Re: Best punches that didn't......
It has to be the punch Simon Brown landed on the temple of Terry Norris, Norris looked like he was doing a hip hop dance when walking back to his corner.

You mean would have floored most fighters who did not have a black bottle in their corner.
" No No, right here, take this one the black one, I mixed it."

Re: Best punches that didn't......

Speaking of Simon Brown.. remember that fight with his pal Blocker back in the late 80‘s early 90‘s??.. man was that a brutal KO. Brown really felt bad after that fight emotionally .
