Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
Its an interesting one.
He won 40 (27 by KO), 14 loses and 1 draw.
He was European and British Empire Heavyweight Champion.
He was in the period of the great fighters (losing to Muhammed Ali, Joe Bugner, Floyd Patterson, Ingemar Johansson)
But could he be a winning champion in todays Heavyweights?
Gimmie your two cents!
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
To small, he'd be a big light heavy or a solid cruiser now days. Doesn't have the frame to put on the weight needed to make the minimuim weight and box at his best.
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
he could maybe win title but only problem is he cuts too easy that would be big problem
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
No, in my humble opinion.
He would be much too small against today's giants (someone like Valuev or Klitschko would just be too big), and he cut way too easily.
Sorry!
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
Arguably what stopped him taking a step up, he cut more than an emo kid.

Shame! He had a good left hock!
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
He still would have, he just wouldn't be a heavy weight by today's standards. ;) The weights have changed.
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
I believe he could of done it.
The era of his boxing was excellent.
But not so now!
:lickish:
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?

LOL, that is myth that Sir 'enry has been spinning for years. Coopers main problem was he kept getting outpointed and knocked out...
Post 1956 Cooper lost 11 fights:
4 times he was knocked out
Once he was Dq'd*
4 times he lost on points
It was only the Ali/Clay fights that finished with him losing on cuts. ;)
*To be fair to Sir 'enry, he was Dq'd for the crime of pounding the crap out of the local prospect in Frankfurt (West) Germany ;D
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
...that being said I see him getting the shit beat out of him by most average heavyweights
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
He only got stopped on cuts 3 times, Ali twice and Peter Bates.

too small...too prone to cuts...that = no.....
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
A cut does more than just make the ref step in and stop it so the cut doesn't get worse... effects your vision and shit.
Look at the first vargas Mosley fight... ;)
Granted that was swelling but it's the same type of thing :)
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
Sir Henry could be good today, I still believe that!
:alcoholic:
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
he could be the man at cruiser or light heavy, pretty skilled... balanced and always had a good attitude to fighting and training.
He's just too small... ;) Look at Chris Byrd, most of the heavys have but a fraction of the skill he does but he gives to much away in strength power and reach... he should of been at cruiser... he's had the cin the hang with the heavys and not get blown out by all of them.
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
Funny as it seems he always did good with the bigger guys
Re: Could Henry Cooper be a Heavyweight Champion today?
Hmmmm
Interesting points....
Anymore thoughts I wonder?
