im not sure but jermain taylor looks much bigger than calzaghe
blergh you only rate Zab because you're from New Jersey... :P
(long time no see cc ;))
im from NY, but i think NJ is the only state in which you are safe from getting robbed thanks to larry hazzard, NY pulls shady shit, and some of the officials piss me off, i like merchante thoughQuote:

ill either have to wait till november for the klitschko fight, which id rather watch on TV if there isnt a good untelevised undercard, or wait untill december for the cotto margarito double header
you guys are so tight on calzaghe. Even though he batters ppl, you still say he is overated. FOR GOODNESS SAKE HE IS ARGUABLY THE BEST SUPER MIDDLE EVER!!!!!
:argue: you got that rightQuote:

i don't care how good robinson was, no welterweight is gonna come up to supermiddleweight and knock JC out lol
Joe and anyone else would have trouble with these guys (in their primes)
Roy Jones Jr.
James Toney
Tommy Hearns
Ray Leonard
Marvin Hagler
Chris Eubank
Nigel Benn
Jake LaMatta
Bernard Hopkins
Archie Moore
Gene Tunney
Harry Greb
Billy Conn
Bob Foster
Joey Maxim
Floyd Patterson
Now would Joe lose to all of them?.... probably not but he wouldn't win them all either.
I agree with Lyle...Joe would have issues with some of the names on his list...but this is about Taylor & I honestly think that Calzaghe would whoop his ass...but if he wants to win...he better be on English soil...that's all I'm sayin.
I'm with Jermain he's good enough and strong enough to fight at lightheavy....he's young and he's only going to get better too
Back on thread:
Calzaghe is waaay to busy for Jermain Taylor AKA Mr Chess.
Calzaghe is very strong too and JT wouldn't hustle him - i reckon JT's eyes would be shut by the 12th round before Joe got a points nod.
JT can jab...Jeff Lacy couldn't
JT can move Lacy couldn't
JT has more than just power
JT fights at a pace that he is comfortable and as we saw Hatton vs Collazo, pressure fighters aren't ALWAYS able to push the pace
Sorry lyle mate i just dont really rate him.
I thought style wise it was awkward with B-Hop (who didnt seem at ease with that fight)
Is it because he has zero Charisma?? i will try to like him (honest!)
-so did Eubank and Lacy.Quote:

Can't argue the 8+ years he's been champ....now if only those hands would heal....Quote:

Joe C have trouble with Toney
For fucks sake......
I used to hate Calzaghe with a passion, but I respect the geezer, hearns wouldnt touch him, no where near, taylor, would be looking at a 114-114 114-114 115-113 loss to Joe....
thats a majority draw, and i wouldnt be surprised if that WAS the result, as long as the two 114's were from guys like hamada or kazmarickQuote:

exactly.....keep him on his guard and use that experience.....keep him smothered....Quote:

The boys got talent & this fight would great to see. I wouldn't be surprised in the least with Taylor winning a decision he's got a great jab! But I just feel Calzaghe may be a little to overwhelming!!!
Gotta go with Joe Taylor keeps his left dangerously low.
that could be interesting, let's face the truth brothers...JC has only 3-4 fights left...and the other fighters just want to be the one to retire him.
If a fighter is able to retire him it will mean fame, fortune and World level fights for the man or a real recognition as "the man of the division"...if I was the Johnson, Taylor, RJJ, Tarver, Kessler I would try to beat the man...
But of course it's a risky business, Joe has an incredible amount of talent plus he trains hard, and I mean HARD for each fight.
I can understand that Taylor prefer to do 10 draw fights with Winky than 1 one fight with Joe, because he could lose it all...but on the other hand, for the other names, JC is a good solution.
JC beats Taylor for me, comfortably. He'd beat most of the guys on Lyle's list also, apart from a prime RJJ. He'd struggle with B-hop at his best and Marvin Hagler, but his natural size advantage would pull him through.
Im not saying JC is as high as Hearns and Leonard on the p4p all time list, it's just that their best was at welter, a good 20 lbs below Joe.
HEARNS wasn't at his best at welter!!! His best and most impressive wins came at 160 and 168
You can "not rate" Jermain all you want to but the guy comes to fight and size advantage or not he'd fight Joe hard and have a shot at beating him.
And Eubank was what 40 when he fought Joe and was that on short notice too?
Surprisingly Eubank is only about 40, now.... It was on short notice though.

Is this a joke? Calzaghe has often said that fighting Eubank was his HARDEST fight!Quote:

Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter w/ a huge heart and still only 33 ...he would Out-class Taylor in a easy UD
if youd have asked this Question before the Lacy fight you woulda got a differnt answer maybe :)
i dont think so he pounded eubank. eubank was down in 1st and had to take a count in round 9 or 8 calzaghe was never wobbled or anything
i thought robin reid would of been hes toughest fight because that was sd
Yeah but that was because he injured his hand and was going through a divorce, he just wasn't mentally or physically anywhere near his best.Quote:

I was knackered after about three rounds to be honest but I wanted it so bad. I felt I had nothing left after seven or eight and I managed to hold on to the end. I was aching for weeks after that fight.”

He's a true lightheavyweight but the 168 division wasn't around back thenQuote:
