How will Cotto fare at 147?
Just wanted to see what you guys thought of his chances at 147? I personally think we will see the best of him,no more killing himself to make the weight, maybe increased stamina and that banging power. :oThe only thing I am afraid of is stylistically, someone like a Williams or a Margarito may savage him :-\,Tony in particular, other than that, I forsee no difficulties for him really! ;D

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
Mayweather would destroy him, ruin him for 12 rounds.
Hatton would KO him.
Judah would demolish him worse than any other boxer at Welterweight.
Margarito would KO him with a bomb....
Castillo would anniHalate him at 140....
And Collazo would decision him.
I cannot see the deal with Cotto and I expect Torres to beat him next bout...

It's funny I cannot see the deal with Torres and expect him to do nothing in the division. Cotto got careless and got caught that was all. Hell Bert Cooper nearly KO'd Evander Holyfield but we never heard much more from him.
Cotto wasn't expecting to be in with a puncher, he got caught but kept his composure and kncoked Torres out, just like Green did with McCrary.
If there is a rematch Cotto destroys Torres, it was a fluke nothing more.
In my opinion Cotto fairs well against everybody in that list. I think Floyd would be too smart for him, everybody else though it's game on.

hatton would get koed at 147 by cotto inside of 10 rounds (hatton is NOT a welter)
a cotto vs. margarito match would be a great match up, but i think cotto beats margarito (assuming he has a few fights at 147 first)

Cottos foght fucking No-one, Hatton veen when learning fough rough cunts, he beat the best Light Welter EVER in Tszyu, Cottos another Margarito, over-rated, I cant wait to see Torres beat him

at least we agree on margarito being overrated

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
Its impossible to say really, he is a puncher at 140 but will that carry to 147? He has looked vulnerable at 140, but is that due to killing himself making weight, or will it be further exposed by bigger men?
One thing we can be sure of. We wont find out for a few fights yet, I cant see Cotto in with a proper welter for a while ;)

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
so thats another 2 years of Cotto fighting nobodys, whi doesnt he go and fight Margarito....
The two most hypdes up Boxers out.
Margarito Cant box, Cotto can a bit, but Cottos so open, Margarito's sloppy punches would KO him....
Shame, I wish Judah was about, because hes the TWAT no-one wants to fight, and he would demolish Cotto and Margarito
And I hate Judah!

i agree about judah.
i think that margarito vs. judah is the fight that most needs to be made.
if margarito beats zab, then he is legit
on the other hand, zabs coming off two losses in a row (i do think he beat baldomir, though)and a victory over the much overhyped margarito would put him back on the map
judah would make margarito look sooooo bad for 6-9 rounds, then zab knocks out margarito and all the hype surrounding him

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
Zab Judah beats Antonio?? I think not . Tony's a long fighter with decent power , It would be only a matter of time before Tony would land that str8 RT on Zab's puss and check mate ! IMO
-
Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
:o (i do think he beat baldomir, though)lol that was a clear cut victory for baldo and i like judah but you gotta admit he lost that fight.

i had zab by a round or two, theres no doubt he took an ass beating but when you consider who won more rounds.....i had zab by one or two

i really dont want him to go to 147, he doesnt take a punch well, he started looking faster in his last few fights too, i think he would get KTFO in his first ww fight by not being afraid of getting hit

yes to Mayweather
No with Hatton, If collazo hurt him Cotto will KHTFO!
Hold his own with Judah, if he hits Judah solid fight over.
Might expose Margarito for what he is..or not...
Castillo needs to be banned from boxing for 2 more years!!!!!!!!!!! sorry SOB
and would love to see the Collazo fight to see if Collazo is for real, this is the most intriguing of the fights IMO...aside from the Margarito fight.

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
I think that he will do well at 147. Mayweather beats 99% of the ww out there so there is no shame in that. I think he would hold his own with Hatton/Judah/Margarito/Collazo. I think all of those would be good match ups. I think he would win them with a few nervous moments in there, but would still win.

I agree with that for the most part....

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
I think he fits into the ww division well, just hope he gets some of the super fights that were around at Jr. w. Hatton, Mayweather. I think he beats the other 3 guys in the top 5, Margarito, Judah & Collazo. But Hatton & Mayweather would be the most difficult tests IMO.

The first Good fighter that focuses on Mayweather's body will have some success. everyone seem to make the mistake of headhunting with PBF, Floyd is too elusive for that. but the body can be had. the body is always available. Cotto is fighter that could have some success. If he works that body early on ,, however if he plods along looking for the head shots all night , Cotto is in big troubles . Got to kill that Mayweather body early to beat him .

Yeah you gotta take away his wheels. Mayweather is very slick and knows how to move very well to get himself out of tight situations. And as for Cotto moving up to Welterweight, I just see it for him as less pain and less water weight to lose weigh in day :P I think he'd feel a little more natural at that weight but question is if his power will transfer from his previous weight also if the bigger stronger guys can attack that questionable chin of his.

the reason that nobody goes to mayweathers body is because he will instantly counter with a solid shot to the face, hes just waay to quick to be dropping your hands away from the head because youre gonna get caught (watch EVERY mayweather fight available and you will know what im talking about ;))
plus, many fighters have said in their post fight interviews "he hits a lot harder than i thought he would"
trust me, bro..............
professional fighters have thought the same thing going in, youre not the first person to think of this ;)

I understand this , but its something that has to be done, you best have a good beard to deal with it, but you gotta get to that Mayweather body or you never touch his chin ! JMO

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
To whomever said Cotto has not fought anyone, you let bias cloud you r judgement and take KT away from Hatton's resume and Cotto has fought by far and away the better opposition.
Corley
ndou
Sosa
Maussa(before Hatton)
Torres(whom he was not expecting to fight)
Bailey
Abdullaev(olympic silver medallist, beat Cotto in amatuers)
mailgnaggi(undefeated slick boxer)
Branco(very fast,only lost1 time,to Gatti and only by points)
lots of ex champs, boxers, punchers, olympians, granted that he needs that big name but that's lots of very good fighters there with excellent records.
At 140,Hatton would win because he would maul Cotto and with Cotto being drained,he would fatigue. At 147,I favour Cotto although it would be close.Cotto can fight beautifully on the back foot as seen against Abdullaev and Ndou, his combos and hand speed are beautiful and he would slow Hatton down with body work. Cotto would cut his face if he landed too many times and I believe Miguel to be stronger,so at times,he could puch Htton to his back foot where I don't see him being as effective.
PBF is a tough fight for anyone but Miguel,in a year or2,would be tough for him too, although I'd favour a Floyd win.
Miguel knocks Zab out or stops him on body shot, end of.
I just think if Miguel went to war with Tony,he would lose and if he boxed,Margarito is so effective at working the body and cutting the ring off that he would still lose although I could be wrong.
Cotto would beat Collazo for me,even though I change my mind about Collazo alot, remember, before the HATTON fight,he took a fight with guy with a 1-1 record and I think he is good but maybe not as good as everyone thinks, more indicative of Hatton maybe?
Cotto could beat Castillo,as long as he boxed,if he stands toe to toe,he is getting knocked the F out!!

Good points bro I agree with everything you said. I also agree with Lords Gym about going to the body on Floyd, Castillo went to the body in their 1st fight & I thought thats what had won him the fight. Pity the judges weren't watching.

He would do good if people like Mayweather and Hatton stopped ducking him. Listen to post fight comment from both boxers when Cotto's name is brought up. They never say they want a piece of him. It's always excuses and Mayweather always talks big in is post fight interview, he always mentions big name but he ends up fighting Joe Loser the next fight.

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
how can you say he would knock hatton out, im sorry but it took collazo 12 rounds to put hatton in any sort of trouble, and despite seeing little of torres, i can say that if he managed to put cotto on his arse and aviod being koed with his terrible defence for 7 rounds then Hatton, even if it was at 147 would be my favorite all the way

Collazo has 12 kos and had Hatton out on his feet and Collazo fought a guy with a 1-1 record a few fights before Cotto. Torres had a 98% KO ratio and it was not knockdown,I have seen the fight at least 6 times and it was clearly a push. As long as Cotto carries his power with him to 147,I believe Cotto would win.

I favor Cotto at 147 over Hatton...Cotto needs to stay at 147 period. He's looked his worst when he was fighting to make 140. The problem with Cotto vs Hatton is that Cotto would fight Hatton's fight IWO.
I thought that Cotto was most effective when he was boxing. If you roll back to the Sosa fight...that's when he was the best...after that...he started listening to HBO & believeing the hype.
He's a much better boxer than he is a brawler IWO. He is not the new Tito...he needs to give that up. He's much better than Tito, IWHO, as I don't really rate or dig Tito...who often gave off a deer in headlights aura once the power shots failed him.

I don't really rate Margarito. I think Cotto would pretty much wear him down after a long battle. If Cotto would use his defense he could win the fight.

Disagree totally. If Collazo were to box Cotto...Cotto would lose. I was really impressed with Collazo & his abilities & moreover...his ability to survive. I truly believe that he gives Cotto hell all night on abilities alone.

Agreed. I don't really rate Castillo though...but it's more that I don't like his ass, to be honest. Castillo kind of frightens me for Cotto. Here again, as with Margarito, if Cotto fought smart he could win down the stretch. Cotto would use his defense & the ring to beat Castillo. Castillo's just such a heavy hitter that loves to trade. I think that it's also a bad fight for Cotto.

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
Cotto will do great at 147, he's a blood and guts brawler with a good chin (where he gets hit too much) loads of heart and good power. He already fights at the 150's and hopefully his power carries up to 147, I think he has a better shot at 147 than Hatton.
-

Great points Wack,CC in 24 but I disagree on one point, just becaue you don't rate does not mean Cotto would win. I think Tony would most liekyl win that fight unless Miguel was on his bike for the whole fight. However,I totally agree,up until the Corley fight, watching Cotto was beatiful example of the sweet science.Froont foot, back foot, power, jab, body work, that left hook which will be legendary 1 day, I think he knows this too which is why in his interviews,he says he will revert to that boxing style/stlking method. I was very impressed by the Branco fight because he did not go in all guns blazing until he knew he had worn Gianluca down. He;s systematic and methodical.

I was very impressed by the Branco fight because he did not go in all guns blazing until he knew he had worn Gianluca down. He;s systematic and methodical.
Agreed.
Just because I don't rate Tony doesn't mean jack. It's just my opinion. I have been wrong on more than one occassion. I have no shame in admitting that...the thing is...I just think that Cotto would press Margarito back the entire time...if he fought smart.
Again...could be wrong...but I could be right also.
Betcha never thought of it that way didja? ;D

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
I see everyone referring to Torres knocking Cotto down as a big negative . It is actually a very good thing for a fighter to experience especially when they can get up and regroup, they learn its part of the sport and that they can overcome adversity.. Its a positive thing. also remember that Cotto had Torres down 3 or 4 times in that fight. finally stopped him in the 7 th or 8th round. I think the thing people don't realize also is Torres can crack, his record at the time was 28-0-(27 knockouts) Torres is known for getting his opponents outta there pretty quick. this was a good solid win for Cotto. all the greats have been down at some point in a fight. Trinidad went thru a phase where he was down in every fight for a while. and Oscar been down several times only to come up and finish strong.. that’s what counts. that’s the foundation champion are built on. The fighters that can get up before the 10 count and turn things around , Those are the Top dogs in the game.

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
everyone notice Miguel has only gone down after either A) a perfect punch or B) repeated flush punches
Cotto has a chin he has heart he has power and speed and Miguel is good at BOXING whereas Hatton has a chin decent power and heart but he is just not big enough to fight at 147

Re: How will Cotto fare at 147?
Every fight I watch of him, I gain more respect, so I would like to say that he would do good. At the same time it is a very good division so I wouldn't be surprised to see lose his first match in this division. I hope he moves up and becomes champ.
