We all grew up knowing our 9 planets. Now there's only 8? WTF!!
What did Pluto do to deserve this? Don't these damn scientists have anything better to do than messin with our solar system!
Fairwell Pluto! It was great having you in our family...

i think its because they found another "planet" that was like pluto in our solar system, and after evaluating it they decided that it was some big ball of ice which made scientists take a closer look at pluto, only to discover that pluto was also just some big ass ball of ice as well

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
How can something not be a planet? I mean....it seems pretty cut and dry that there is a planet there. Astronomers can go to hell, Pluto is a planet.

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
Damn though, poor Pluto. This is just like school. We got the cool kids like Earth, the bigass jocks like Jupiter, the wierd planets like Mars, the hot girls like Venus, the teachers pet like Mercury. The kids with all the piercings and everything like Saturn. Neptune, Uranus and Pluto. Uranus is the loser who gets made fun of cuz of his name but he stays kind of close to the kids with piercings, so he doesn't get made fun of to much. Then Uranus and Pluto. Uranus is slightly cooler but Pluto just gets ragged on constantly, absorbing it all. Now he done got kicked out of the whole school altogether and all the cool kids probably don't even notice, but Pluto is off bein a hermit, posting on message boards with angst and coming up with conspiracy theories all alone. Now Neptune is like FUCK! Wouldn't be surprised if this is made into a Carrie movie.

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
Yeah I read about this on the bbc website the other day.
I don't think it's finalised yet, and there are other astronomers arguing for 4 more objects to be upgraded to planet status, amongst them ironically Pluto's moon Charon or sommitotwatever.
Personally I would be happy with 7 planets as that is my favourite number and I think it would be more harmonious, 7 days in a week, seven seas, seven continents and seven colours in a rainbow and of course seven openings in your head. Plus I was born in the 7th month, July. 8)

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
You make a good point, CC. like saying the the straweight divison is no longer a division. ??? I grew up with Pluto as a plant and I am going to die with Pluto as a planet, and those assholes in lab coats aren’t telling me any different the pricks, the lots of em! say one thing now change their minds later, fuk that shit ;D

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
i remember my chain smoking astronomy major roomate helped me cram study for a final all night long only to fail the exam ahahaha. so Fuck astronomy the stars are only good for helping one get laid by pointing them out to a honey right before u make out with her and put ya hands up her shirt.

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
Welp, science progresses.
Pluto is on the outskirts of our solar system, hence the reason people didn't know much about it for years. If Pluto is a planet, then so are have the giant rocks floating in orbit.
There are two types of planets, jovian and terrestrial. Jovian planets (mostly) have no solid surface, they're just gas. Terrestrial planets are highly dense and rotate slowly. Pluto shares some characteristics, but its just a tiny ice turd that has an orbit. Most moons are larger than Pluto.

oh, so your one of those brainsters in a lab coat that took away my dear little Pluto? Look at what u've done! You are taking all that is good. Stop this nonsense!!!! ;D

So in your own lifetime Pluto has grown from a plant into a full planet? No offense but you must be a very, very, very old man, around 3.8 billion years old!
And when Pluto was a plant, was it in a garden? ;D

Damn... to start out from a plant. Grow into a garden. Make to a full size planet, and now this. How humiliating!

I dunno science usally takes years of research only to end up proving the bible right in the first place, e.g Big bang proved universe did indeed have a beginning, contrary to scientific belief at that time, the entire human race is indeed descended from one woman, again scientists were suprised when mitochondrial dna evidence confirmed that.
Another 100 years or so and they will finally accept that man didn't actually come from monkeys after all and we will all be right back where we started again.

Well actually it theorised that time was here before the big bang and will not end, but instead slow down, when the Universe is sucked into black holes ;)

Re: Off Topic... How can they take away Pluto?
they decided that pluto wasnt a planet because they found other planets similiar and decided to make a new list of planets called the dwarve planets and pluto is now part of that group.

Yea, I know there IS a reason for it. But damn... after all this time couldn't they give Pluto some slack and grandfather it in to keep its planet status? No respect... just take it away like it means nothing to all of us!

Yeah, cause we know how the bible always proves science wrong. Oh wait, didn't the bible say the earth was 6,000 years old? That's not correct is it?
Answer: of course not. THe people who wrote that crap were dumber than we are today, and that in itself is amazing.

Ok, where in the bible does it say the earth is 6000 years old? Find me the passage, it aint there bud.
By the way the bible also says in Isiah that the earth is 'round', not bad for being over 2000 years old. It took science another 1000 odd years to catch up with that one.

Bishop James Ussher was the first to study the age of the planet according to the Bible, he suggested the planet was 'created' in 4004BC, studies since have all put the age of Earth at between 6000 and 6500 years old, according to the Bible.
As for the Planet being round, well actually the Greeks were first to discover the planet was round, and the Egyptians used that knowledge to align the Prymaids to the Stars...

In the land of looney creationists, the earth is about 6000 years old because if "God" created man and woman at about the same time that he created the earth, then the earth would only be thousands of years old. Thats where the number comes from. But there's no real point in arguing scientific merit with any religion. Its mostly just for jokes.
And if the bible actually did beat reality to the whole "round earth" theory, then its on its way to being redeemed as a true book of science.
(minus the wacky magic, people turning to salt, people living way beyond geriatric, having a god who creates animals, then needs them sacrificed to him. god constantly wiping out livestock, and constatly killing people, and throwing out famine and locusts, and people rising from the dead...)
If anyone ever decides to take these stories literally, just think of Noah. That guy was a geriatric with no zooology skills, but somehow managed to capture giraffs, tigers, gorillas, ant eaters, pythons, koalas, coyotes, wolves....etc, and put all these animals on a 400 foot boat. (40 days and 40 nights of scooping up animal shit)

It makes more sense than some divine infallible higher power. If we're computer generated, then there's room for error. And there are plenty of grand imperfections on this beautiful blue ball that we live on.
