Jones Jr's team looking at Peter Manfredo/ Mora vs Regan
Excerpt from Ron Borges Column, Boston Globe/ Aug 23:
Quartey is being strongly considered for an ESPN pay-per-view card in January against last year's
Contender" series champion, Sergio Mora, assuming Mora survives Friday night's showdown on ESPN2 with hard-punching Eric Regan. It could be part of an even bigger card, because people representing Roy Jones Jr. have begun inquiring about facing Peter Manfredo Jr., another ``Contender" alumnus who lost in the finals to Mora a year ago.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems like kind of an odd fight but I guess it could happen.
And Ike-Mora? I guess we'll see if Mora's really any good if that happens.

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
i think ike-wright is more likely to happen.
rjj vs. manfredo would be a new low.

Could be a Litmus test fight at 168 for Roy to see how strong he would be at that weight again For a Showdown with Calzaghe next year.....

im moixed on this.
i love manfredo jr, but yet stil i dont think he could beat roy jones even though he is one of the best at super middle, and roy jones shouldnt really consider manfredo although a good fighter, roy should be trying to wrap up his career with some good wins and manfredo is not big enougha name to retire on!
jus dont see how its a good move for roy, and i'd jus find it hard to watch if peter took it because he would just be trying to beat a shot roy jones, which isnt in fair competition?? i dunno
roy fight calzaghe
peter face spina!!
prob solved ..lol
peace

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
I would think that 168 would be to hard for RJJ to get to, it has been since 1996 that he fought at that weight. I think RJJ would be to weight drained to do any good there. I dont see this fight happening.

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
would be fun to watch, I see RJJ putting on a good ole fashioned clinic, perfect fight to showcase what RRJ has left

would be nice but Roy BARELY made Light Heavyweight for his last fight, so I don't see him making 168, he's breaking the seams as it is at Light Heavyweight now

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
Roy admited he cna barely do 175 any more.
If he fights Calzaghe it will be at 175, no doubt.
-
Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
RJJ will destroy Manfredo even now. Ike would destroy Mora also.....What is going on its like past it legends against the 'contenders'!
-
Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
the more money you have in the bank, the harder it is to make weight ! ;) I believe Jones could do 168 if wanted too, but the edge poverty puts on fighter in regards to training is not there for Roy anymore. Hard times is one hell of a motivator .

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
I think the Jones Jr/ Manfredo fight wouldn't come off unless Peter moved to 175, which I don't see him doing. The fight does nothing for Jones. If he wins everyone says he beat a green fighter! If he loses then he's the laughing stock. No value in this fight as only Manfredo stands to gain. Jones should be looking for Calzaghe @ 175 or & I know this would be a big ask but how about Bell for the cruiserweight championship.
Quartey/ Mora would be a total is-match. Mora gets KTFO!!!

I doubt that would happen. Mora at 160 and with skills , chin, youth and knowing how to use it may beat Quartey.

Mora ain't sh*t, Quartey even at this stage of his career would destroy him!

Agreed!!! CC Bro...Ike proved that he stills has plenty left in the tank, and a Quartey in the twilight of his career is still light years ahead of thet scrub Mora....

So you'd be shocked if he beat Quartey? Thats very possible

Re: RJJ thinking about a fight with Peter Manfredo???
THis fight will never happen. Just a BS, rumor from some boxing site. Fighting Manfredo would be a step DOWN from fighting Badi Ajamu. A good fight IMO for Roy right now would be George Khalid Jones, an European guy with an alphabet soup LH title, or a rematch with Richard Hall. Any of those would be a step up from Badi, and help Roy to further get his confidence back and sharpen his skills in preperation for one last superfight showdown.

cc back @ JT, yes I'd be shocked if he beat Quartey! I was shocked when he got BS decisions over Ishe (a natural WW) & Manfredo in the 2nd. I'd be shocked if Quartey didn't knock him out!!!

You're right. Forgive me. Manfredo would easily knock Roy Jones out in one round, or dominated him for as long as he saw fit. He's a once in a lifetime talent, and Roy's a bum nowadays. ;D ::** Actually he's a decent prospect with a lot of hype, who got one legit win against a totally shot Scot Pemberton who may or may not have taken a dive. And Roy would knock him out very easily. Manfredo will sitck to beatin up on Spina, as he should. And Roy will stick to fightin another LH REAL contender, and hopefully face Calzaghe down the road.

All I know man is that he ain't in Roy Jones Junior's class, not even close, not even an old Roy Jones Jr. And Mora ain't in Quartey's class either, though that fight would be more competitive than a Jones vs Manfredo mismatch.
