Yes MMa a threat to boxing and its boxings fault
think yes boxing has big worries, while i prefer boxing to mma, the fighters in mma fight big name challenges each time out, you dont have to wait a year for a showdown unlike boxing which has become who can avoid who the longest. The cards are better, boxing theres one main even the rest of the fights suck. The huge amount of money boxers make can be partially to blame, poeple tired of ludicrous decisions, pay per view rahman makev are you kidding me??? I rest my case, I love boxing but they have begun to destroy it themselves, hell when one guy dominates you still scratch your head sometimes because you know the decison might be in question

boxing is not dying, nor it is even close.
that is why PROFESSIONAL fighters make millions for one fight.
mma is the latest fad and will be dead within the next 10 years
ive seen this mma/ufc stuff before (hughes vs. gracie) and the energy comes NOWHERE NEAR to the level of a true championship fight (like pacquio vs. morales and taylor vs. wright just to name a couple)
although mma is real, its not even more entertaining that the wwf or wcw were when they were popular (im talking about pre-wwe cuz i have yet to see that)

you misunderstanding me Im not saying mma is great its boxings being that bad thats why its a threat, would you pay 49.95 to see ole maskeve fight hasim rahman? I certainly woudlnt, I think people are tired of corruption dumb ass decsions, lack of menaingful fights and part of that big salary they make is why they avoid each other, they make too much money and dont fight too often

Very true...Although I would put the boxers making too much money way down on the list of problems, I'd list whats killing boxing as:
1) Lack of universal rankings and champions - this is one area the government actually could help.
2) too many sanctioning bodies - back to number 1
3) promoters not promoting fights outside that might jeopardize control - again could be fixed by fixing number 1
4) Too confusing for the casual fan - mmmm refer to number 1 again
Sadly the fans and atheletes suffer while the blatant curroption continues....I'll get off of my soapbox now...

Corruption is basically boxing why is there all the sanctioning bodies... for the purpose of corruption, that is why boxing will always be somewhat of a joke

I enjoy both sports. I don't feel that boxing is dying or going anywhere but I will say this: I have bought more MMA (Pride/UFC) ppv in the last year than all of the boxing PPV's over the past 3 years. I train in submission grappling so I enjoy some of the more technical aspects of ground fighting that bore some, but more to the point I feel like I get more for more money from MMA cards. They have 4 or more fights per PPV and they are all usually interesting in their significance good fights. Most boxing PPV's have 2 at the most. UFC and Pride show their fights(meaningful fights!) on free TV. It is very frustrating waiting for the big fights in boxing and the BS decisions that came along with it. The obvious strangulation of the sport by shoddy promoters and the hell spawn that are the alphabet orgs is really sickening. I can atest that getting my buddies in the Army to pitch in on a UFC/Pride PPV is much easier than a world championship boxing event. Boxing needs a governing body with one belt and one set of rankings. It needs an org that will govern it and provide a face to the public and give it more legitamacy and better PR or it will lose a young generation.

as a matter of fact............... i did pay 49.95 for rahman/maskaev but i see your point
true, boxing has bad decisions but bad officiating is a part of almost all sports.
how many football (american football and soccer) games are blown because of bad calls (even though they have instant replay)
basketball games?
baseball games?
it happens, but nobody who loves these sports turns their back and stops watching because of these bad calls
and as far as meaningless fights, there are PLENTY of meaningless games/matches in all other sports (espically mma/ufc)

actually with the boxing ppvs there are usually 3-4 fights with two of them being championship fights, one up and comer, and sometimes one 8 round or less match with a super green up and comer (usually some olympian)
and these boxing match-ups ALMOST ALWAYS last longer than these mma matchups and are far more entertaining while theyre going on (i just cant get too excited about 2 guys rolling around on the floor while reversing armbars and other various submission holds)
the occasional ko in these mma events are entertaining but it doesnt provide the energy that boxing does
boxing is a science, mma is fighting
different strokes for different folks, but mma/ufc isnt taking away any boxing fans and if it does than those people werent ever that big of fans of the sport/science in the first place

Which boxing PPV's are you getting? The last several HBO PPV's I've watched have usually shown the main event and a replay of another fight. I'd say the the entertainment value is purely subjective. If MMA isn't you thing or you have no experience with ground fighting and submissions then I can see how the entertainment value wouldn't be there for you. In all honesty I'd rather see a good submission than a KO when I watch MMA. But lets not belittle the sport of MMA by saying it isn't scientific. I don't think you'd say that Sambo, Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo, Freestyle & Greco Roman Wrestling, Kickboxing, and MuyThai are scienceless. These are the disciplines that predominantly make up MMA

Gotta disagree mma is much more scientific than boxing, ive done both and youve got to know alot more to survive even for a short period of time in mma, you can be taken of your feet with ease if you dont know what your doing, or koed with a kick punch, etc

As much as I agree with both sides of the argument...
Boxing, as boring as it can be at times, will never die out....It has been around to long and people love watching a GREAT 12 Round battle...
MMA, with its pros and cons, will always be just MMA....Most of the fighters dont have the stamina to stay in the ring with most Pro Boxers....Theres a difference between getting hit a few times in MMA fights and a couple hundred times in Boxing...
I like both sports, I just dont ever compare the two with each other often...When I am at a Boxing match, I am there to see Boxing and Vice Versa for MMA...

Yes, you got to like the politics to love the sport.
But that is difference between Boxing and this MMWWFEA thingy, long term boxing fans have by the tens of thousands been into the sport for decades, watching what... at least 5/6 shows worldwide a night, every night, for the last 120 years?

I don't think boxing is dying, but too many belts, bad matchups and bad decisions really hurt the sport. I like MMA, but I think it's easier for a casual fan to appreciate boxing as opposed to MMA. The big money is still in boxing.

i think as it stands how they both were at theyr primes and considering the change in times and styles roy would beat ray.....
but....
if ray were from this generation and had all the same great training etc that we have today then he would beat roy silly...
i often wonder what old school greats would have been like had they lived and trained in this day and age!! it'd be f*ckin marvelous to see!! :P

I have a few friends that are into the UFC matches. They huddled around a antique floor model tele and watched some rubbish fight while I stayed home and watched Taylor-Wright whilst enjoying two broiled crab cakes.
They should be tied to a wooden chair and beat with an extension cord...

I too prefer boxing but if thats your opinion of mma it's probably due to watching a bullshit organization like UFC
