Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
http://www.ringtalk.com/index.php?ac...ments=1&id=805
MORALES STARTS TRAINING AS AN UNDERDOG
Las Vegas, NV-Having lost two fights in a row, (Zahir Raheem & Manny Pacquiao) and three (Marco Antonio Barrera) out of his last four, Erik Morales, a champion at 122, 126 and 130 lbs. thought that by starting training camp early, come November 18 he would be in the best shape both physically and emotionally for the third fight with Pacquiao. That being said, if you only want “positive” news coming out of the Erik Morales training camp, you might want to stop reading at this point.
LONG CAMP FOR PACMAN CAN HAVE BAD RESULTS
When Roberto Duran went to camp, especially in the latter stage of his boxing life, it was all about his having to lose weight. Although Morales has to make 130 lbs. for the showdown with Pacquiao, or risk losing millions of dollars, his going to camp early is not only to pare down, but it’s really an attempt to get his confidence back. But a prolonged training camp could takeout any fight Morales might have left in him, seeing he has endured 342 professional rounds since turning professional 13 ½ years ago.
SPARRING SESSIONS HAVE ERIK GETTING LIT UP!
My camp sources have been reporting that while Morales is paring down, his frame of mind has been good. If you’re looking at the big picture, then you should be feeling pretty good right about now. OK, ready for the bad news? The sparring sessions that have taken place between Morales, 48-4 (34 KOs) and Edwin Valero, 20-0 (20 KOs) have been so one sided that I expect the Venezuelan southpaw to be let go sooner, rather than later!
ERIK’S BEEN GETTING HAMMERED LIKE A NAIL!
There has never been a shortage of “want” in Erik Morales. But at 29 years of age, with 52 fights under his belt, and having fought 342 professional rounds to date, Erik Morales is indeed a “shot” fighter. And while Valero has “future” champion written all over him, Erik has “future” knockout victim scrawled all over him! With this a week less than three months away from fighting Manny Pacquiao, Erik will be so drained come November 18, that he’ll be lucky to last six with the Filipino blaster!
Not sure about the impartiality of the writer or whether what he is writing is indeed true but I am beginning to change my mind again. I thought Erik would be ultra competitive but maybe they are just focusing on him actually making weight, and training for that rather than trainin for the fight! It's possible!

No,not really,I mean I have in my collection various clips of Valero going to war with Morales and getting the better of it but I thought that Morales also had his share of control in the sparring although in 1 particular session,Valero countered him beautifully!!

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
well, i didnt wanna hear the bad news soooo i didnt read it :P
lol, jk.....this sounds bad, erik's gettin his ass handed to him in sparring...good luck erik, becuz you'll damn need it.
-
Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
how long has he been in camp for? I hope its not as bad as it sounds.

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
i think that it could very well just be a ploy to throw Pacquiaos team off, doubt it would work but could be a possibility, i haven't seen anything in Morales last showing that he isn't capable of performing at top level, by saying Morales is "shot", then they are basically down playing Pacquiao, because his win was nothing close to dominant, and he was also fighting a supposed "shot" Morales

My thoughts exactly...along with the fact that Pac's camp has been playing head games with Morales about Pac not caring about the 2lbs & what not.
-
Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
Where have I heard something like this before ???
Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! ???
Oh! yeah! almost everytime theres a BIG fight in the horizon.
All that matters is what happends in that ring that night. And what the fwock does Duran have to do with this.....OK you wanna bring up Duran, he did beat Barkley after "draining" himself to make weight :P

Agreed. I wouldnt give too much consideration to this article. The fight is a long way off yet...

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
If PacMan wins and I think he will, should EM retire?

I believe that EM probably won't stick around to be anyone's second fiddle, and if he's not the best in the world it probably won't be worth it for him. If he loses badly, he'll probably hang em up. If he wins or comes out looking competitive the 130 division has a number of lesser echelon but still lucrative match-ups he can make.
I like Morales as a fighter but I don't see how he's going to pull this off.

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
U guys obviously have never seen Morale spar with Valero before.
IT WAS ONE SIDED EVEN BACK THEN!!!
Valero is up & coming an Erik has left his prime even more this time aound.
-
Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
Pacman will win by TKO and Eric should retire after this fight.
-
Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
I disagree with Wack,Miles and you guys and totally agree with Gyro,a prime El Terrible would do better than he does in sparring Valero. There are far too many instances of the young, raw Valero getting the better of him,and it's a FACT,Morales needs to lose alot of weight so IT COULD BE that his team will work on him being able to make the weight rather than actually training for the fight.

Valero just made it one sided in his favor, once he adapted to Morales' style and the high altitude from which they were training.
The reason why Valero is so dominating is probably from his reaction to his first days in
Camp Morales. Then, it was Morales that owned him.
Valero is just a m*thaf*ckin' bad*ss! There is no denying.
He would be the next greatest talent, if he had his liscense in the States.
His talent, showing from the video, is EVEN GREATER THAN FLOYD MUTHAF*CKIN' MAYWEATHER'S!!!! ;D
Also note that just after this camp, Morales had one great fight left in him.
I've seen Morales fight when he was young, he was POWERFUL, FAST, and FULL OF ENERGY.
His combinations were amazing, and the fact that he was able to calmly hang in the
danger-zone while blasting his opponents away, just amazes me. I still think
Morales' career is underrated, in confidence and talent.

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
Morales is a proud man, his knockout at the hands of Pacquio is probably eating him alive. I think Erik might be able to ressurect the great Morales for one more night.

:coolclick: Just because that sounds cool. ;D

Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
sparring ain't all that. morales will still beat valero in an actual fight. and what is this writer talking about "future champion written all over him"? isn't it valero's already world champ.
-
Re: Training of Erik Morales(SLightly worrying)
anyways a perfect example of why you shouldn't put too much attention to the whole sparring thing, is what were people saying about MANNY PACQUIAO BEFORE HE FOUGHT HIS LAST FIGHT AGAINST OSCAR LARIOSSSSSSSS, Yea he looked slow and sluggish during training, that his stamina wasn't that great, and look at how he performed, so yea don't read into it that much

it's just some verbal sparring and not worth the price of paper it was printed on.

Wait a little while longer, its too early to be making any final judgements on Morales as of yet. I doubt he's taken a fight with the sole intention of just making the weight. Of course Morales is not looking good in sparring 3 months prior to the fight. He's heavy and out of condition even now.
Time will tell, fellas....

I didn't know that. You mean the great El Gamo has dumped ol' Erik for some new, younger guy!? That's not fair; can't do that to Erik. I wouldn't ever leave Pacman for somebody new, nevaaah!
Naw, I know Mr. Gamo pretty well, he wouldn't do that. He's a certified full-blooded El Terriiiible fan, and he would never leave Erik for some punk. Ok, Ok, you disagree about the 'punk' part - I concede there.

Agreed. The fact that Mosquerra lasted up to the 11th (or was it the 9th) round bolsters the claim of some analysts that almost all the fighters Valero KO'd in the 1st are unknown, unrated fighters. Mosquerra is not even considered as one of the marquee or elite fighters although he might have been a champion, which qualifies him as a first class fighter. He's probably the only first class fighter whom Valero faced so far. I wonder how long Mosquerra would have lasted against Pac.

lmao,HELL NO I have not left EM"!!! He's still my boy but he would beat on some young upstart like Valero in his prime but right now,Valero holds his own and although sparring does not usually mean alot,at times,it can get heated especailly with someone as proud as Morales. I sooooo hope we see the best of Erik on more time,I mean in the second fight, his defence was appaling!

Well he fought guys in Japan who none of us know wabout so none of us can comment on that and as for Mosquera,he was fighting in front of his adoring home fans, and he was known as a decent fighter so it's a good win for Valero and remember,he is just starting out, there is PLENTY more to come from.
