I would like to know what you guys think about this kind of pads. I haven't seen lot of trainers or club using it. But that's maybe a good pad to train powerful straight shots in motion.

well... you're spending $109 and still need someone to hold it. I'm not sure what you had in mind but IMO, you're better off getting a heavy bag for the same amount of money. And if you do have someone to hold it, why not just get focus/punch mits? You could do just as much and more because you can practise slipping, and bobbing, etc.
Honestly, it seems to me like it's one of those items that falls into the if-you-make-it-someone-will-buy-it category.
Totally agree with Von Milash... More like a gadget kind of thing than really usefull.
Punch Shields are nice. But spending that much for something that requires another being to hold it, is just ridiculous.
I'm not interested in that particular model which is really too expensive for a pad. The link was to give you an idea of what I was talking about.
I'm interested in that kind of pad because we use a leather medecin ball as a pad at my boxing gym. The guy who hold it move around in the ring and the boxer has to move and hit the ball with straight punches. The difference with the mitts is that you can hit full force like if you are working on the heavy bag plus you must move. The only one problem is that holding the medecin ball is not confortable. Sometimes, the ball slippes or you get your hands hit if the boxer try to work uppercuts or hooks.
IMO, you can do the same training with mitts as you mentioned with the shield, including punching hard. But with the mitts you have the opportunity to make it more difficult if you want or feel the need to.
Benefit with the mits is, that you are only aloud to hit when the mitt is held up, and depending on how, you have to give the corresponding punch or punch-combo. And the goal offcourse is to respond to the mitt as fast as you can. With that, you train moving around, reactionquickness, combined with strong punches.
In my experience, when you fight, you come in situations that you have to throw punches you didn't have in mind at first. Responding to your opponents' actions. If someone is running around the ring with a punchshield, well, i can just as well go dance around a heavy bag and hit that....

About hitting the medicine ball. I have seen other people doing it too. For instance, Clifford Etienne. That's not because you have never use it that nobody does or should.

but if you're punching the shield you'd be doing that incorrectly too.
you do what you like, but you can get a good set of mits for $40. then you can grab a partner and just do what the trainers do. you can work combos like hook cross. jab cross hook. hook low, hook high etc. but you can work them quickly because the targets are already in place.
if you insist on punchin the body, do it with a shield and not a med ball. a pro can do it because they have unlimited funding. it breaks down the ball.
Don't know if this is relevant or not but the Ringside "body protector"? So trainers can take body punches "almost painlessly"? With the "power Puncher" insert, to make the same body shots "painless"? LIES. All of it lies. I pee'd more blood from shots taken wearing that thing than I ever did just getting hit! It sits in a box and I carry it around like I do my National Geographics collection, but I read those and I'll never use that contraption again. I'll work off the mitts, use my elbows and forearms to block, or just let somebody hit me before I'll put that thing on again.
lol yeah i always wondered if those things actually worked cuz you would think no matter what the pad on your stomach is still being hit and all the force is still going to your stomach

All they are these nick nacks are to play on peoples insecuritys. Somebody holding pads so you think you are getting more attension than the next guy. I used to be the pad man so people told me gyms have stopped in the states when Ive been there. But its all bollocks Boxers can pick up some terrible habits on the pads. There are so many other ways to get better results, it takes just a little bit of thought, and creativity by coach and pupil to attain this. Plus its a lot more fun for the both, just think what youre trying to create and why. Boxing is about using the brain okay use it.
are you saying mit work isn't necessary? ??? Or are you refering to pads?
Personally, I like a couple rounds of mit work because it hones my technique. The guys I work with stress basic proficiency. I also like to hit the bag with a trainer watching to see what I'm doing right or wrong. I also ask a hell of a lot of questions. I approach it very scientifically. It's all about force, fulcrum and load.
