Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
http://www.frankwarren.tv/drill/News...exclusive.html
Ricky Hatton will fight for the IBF light-welterweight title against Juan Urango in the States on January 6, he told www.frankwarren.tv last night.
The Hitman, at the Bolton Arena as one of IBF light-heavyweight champion Clinton Woods' cornermen, confirmed he would be stepping back down to light-welterweight.
My God, So Hatton is now only having one fight in 2006? Not only that this date right after Christmas? How the fuck are all his British fans going to afford the trip to whereever this fight is going to be held in the States?? What's going on?? Does anyone agree this is a stupid date? Considering most of Hatton's fans will be travelling from the Uk?

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
Urango sucks. He didn't even win his last fight that got him Hatton's old belt. The mediocre Ben-Rabah beat him and Urango was gifted a decision.

06/01/2006 ??? Back in time? ;). anyways on a serious note that is very disappointing for us fans. Looks like any possible Mayweather fight wont be happening for quite a while!

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
I swear this whole ordeal about who his fighting IMO is doing him no good. Just shut the fwock up and once you've made up your mind & signed the papers that say your fighting someone then come out and tell us. This shet! is pissing me off now. >:mad

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
Hatton is 5"6 guys he is a 140lb fighter tops , if mayweather wants to fight , Mayweather needs to come down in weight, Hatton has no business in the 147lbs division. I think Team Hatton is making a wise decision . Its awesome Ricky tested the waters at 147 and was able to narrowly get by the bigger stronger Collozo. I don’t understand why everyone get so disappointed about Hatton next opponent? Hatton is top notch and will thrill the fans no matter who he fights. Urango is a very good undefeated fighter with nice power and determination I don’t understand all the negativity surrounding this opponent ?

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
Hatton is getting sloppy IMO...down to fighting once a year when he is as young as he is...
He should be more active than he is and just keep getting those rounds in...long lay offs
wont assist him...
Its a strange time to have a fight indeed...

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
I think a combination of poor management, not at his besy perfomances and constant chopping and changing of opponents etc is leading to the Hatton bandwagon losing steam. I don't like the constand we are going to fight so&so and then next week someone else, don't announce anything until you know yourself!

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
iam starting to think it was a very bad idear leaving frank warren, warren would have kept him active even if it was fighting the likes of Urango, and then going for a super fight.Fighting once a year is crazy.

I agree since he left warren he's gone downhill, 2 fights in 18 months is a joke. Did anyone else think he looked overweight when he brought clintons belt into the ring on Saturday? He'd probably make light-heavy at the moment!!!

Rick always looks massive when he isnt fighting, He balloons up 2-3 stone above fighting weight. He has done it all his career so dont worry about that.
In regards to the fight being January 6th!! As far as i know it is still december the 9th ;)

Seen as tho ricky is bigger and stronger then mayweather, do you not reckon it wud be a good idea for ricky to get him at a heavier weight as possible?

Warren drops Hatton legal action
Warren and Hatton worked together for several years before the split
Boxing promoter Frank Warren has dropped his legal action against former WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton and his father Ray.
He began the action last September when Hatton signed with rival promoter Dennis Hobson, claiming his deal with Warren's Sports Network had expired.
But a statement from Sports Network said it had "agreed to discontinue its action against Ray and Ricky Hatton".
It added that further discussions between the two sides are planned.
"(These) will hopefully form the basis of a working relationship at some stage in the future," the statement said.
Hatton's last fight for Warren was on 6 April 2005 when he notched a career-defining win over IBF light-welterweight king Kostya Tszyu.
The Manchester-based fighter's last two bouts have been promoted by Hobson.
He beat Carlos Maussa last November and stepped up to welterweight to beat Luis Collazo in May 2006.
Hatton relinquished his WBA welterweight title on Thursday, having given up the IBF light welterweight crown in April.
His next contest is set for 6 January, when he will attempt to regain the IBF light welterweight belt from current holder Juan Urango.

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
His foray into welter was badly planned and it has scarred him.
Too short a prep time to step up a division against a big, tricky southpaw CHAMPION.
In a nutshell.

Mayweather is some 2 1/2 inches taller than Hatton , and has more reach. , as for Hatton being stronger, I think he is when he is at 140, but I don't think he is at higher weight . If you step back and look at the 147lb division lots of the top guys are 5”9 and up, and could easily hold 168lbs with ease, Hatton has no business getting in a division where he will always be lunging to try and land one shot, its not like the heavyweight division where a lot of the big tall guys are sloth slow. these tall 147 lbers are fast, move well and have excellent stamina. Hatton would be way over his head, its simple mathematics really.

Ok but look at mayweather. Hes at welter and hes a natural lightweight. I'm tired of hear how hatton couldn't handle the weight. The man walks around at 170. If anything he should feel stronger at 147 cause he don't have to drain as much. Its just funny how floyd can move up 3 classes and be ok but hatton can't even move up one.Collazo didn't give him problems cause hes big he gave him problems cause hatton ain't really a pound for pound fighter. Hes got 1 style and if that don't work then he is all messed up. Thats not pound for pound.

Re: Is this right? Hatton now fighting on 06/01/2006???
I was wondering that too,is Hatton just a plug forwar type fighter? I ask because I have not seen many of his fights but the ones I have seen,he fights basically the same all the way through although that is not necessarily bad as it has kept his 0 intact!!

the problem is hattons height hell have a major disadvantage if he goes 147 or above and also his success at 140 was due to his relentless attack and his handspeed which he will lose at any weight above 140 and also with him being so inactive he will lose the ring sharpness he needs

Mayweather has some height tho 5"8 1/2 ! Hatton is short mate, 5 "6, knee high to grasshopper. weight not the problem its height and reach. how he going to deal with Margarito 5"11 or Williams 6"1 its ridiculous to even consider. lack of height is a huge disadvantage in the lower weight classes , Hatton is very very short, 140 is his best weight . .
As far as his ability in the ring, I think his record speaks volumes . Hatton is fucking action packed ! he comes to kick ass and take names, Any fight fan will enjoy his non stop aggressive approach . He is a thrill ride !
