Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Yeah it was a hell of a fight. I thought Barerra won it more clearly than most seem to think, though. And in terms of the rematch, I think it will just be that much clearer. Rocky definetly landed some bombs on MAB, probably his best punches, but Barrera took them and was still able to dictate the pace and show great boxing in the championship rounds, I just feel he is the far better boxer, and the guys who are more skilled usually fare well in rematches. Juarez ate jabs all night in their first fight and I clearly felt Barrera won, but I have only seen it once. Anyways my pick is a more connvincing Barrera win this time.
-
Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
First fight was a great fight but I too felt that MAB won,by 2 if I remember correctly.Rocky did well but I think we saw the best of him whereas MAB can only improve and I think MAB will win easier second time around.Remember,MAB thought he was fighting Chavez for a title and it must have been a bit of a let down for that fight not to go ahead? IF Juarez can increase his activity,it will make it a close fight though because he has very very heavy hands as evidenced by MAB'S face first time around.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Thank you for making me watch this fight again.
It was a great fight and a war. Typical Barrera fight.
Rocky's corner told Rocky in the 9th that he was losing the fight. I can't argue with that.
I scored the fight
115 Barrera
113 Juarez
But damn it that kid Rocky hits hard.
Predictions for this fight?
Both fighters will be stepping it up a notch and I think that Barrera will get the NOD from the judges this time. I can see how this first fight was a draw.
The over hand right was an effective tool for Rocky and he should use it more.
Barreras Jab was very effective and he took advantage of his 2 ½" reach. Great boxing on the outside and did great in the toe to toe exchanges.
Something that always bother me about fighters, is the gear.
Example. Barreras new mouth piece. Didnt he even bother to try it out before the fight?
What if Barrera's corner had forgot or decided not to bring another mouth piece? What if Barreras mouth piece, be it the one that bothered him or the old one they used in the later rounds had got knocked out? Barrera would of got deducted a point.
Pet Pevees: New trunks and the fighter keeps adjusting them (Corrales vs Mayweather)
or new shoes and the fighter is slipping in the ring. Why all this other preparation for a fight and yet people over look these other details is just wrong.
In closing, Rocky has the power to knock out Barrera. I think he should take advantage of that power in the early rounds. He might get lucky over the older MAB. I hope that is not the case cus MAB is my second favorite fighter in boxing.
Peace.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Alot of good points guys
The way I see it everythings in Barreras favour this time . If Rocky was ever guna spring a surprise and beat Barrera it would have been last time . Hes had his chance now against an off form Barrera who wanted to casually box and he couldnt win . This time hes facing a more focused Barrera who knows the size of teh task ahead of him and as we all know when Barreras on top form he is ain a different league entirely .
The gloves will suit Marco more as Rockys punches wont be that dangerous as they would have been in cleto Reyes and Rocky knows this . Then theres the issue of stamina and although Marco looked tired 1st time out I beleive it was cuz of the bloody nose that effected his breathing . In terms of technical skills Juarez complimented Barrera on how good he was at dominating with his left hand . Barrera will be doing alot more of that this time and his combos are also superior to that of Rocky
What Juarez needs to do is put on more pressure but I think he will be outclassed by a boxing clinic put on by the master
Barrera UD

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Im going to play it safe and go for a MAB decision, my 2nd choice would be a MAB stoppage. I just cant see Juarez beating MAB in a rematch.
-
Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
MAB grew old in the last fight, and I think his best days are behind him.
-
Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
i chose juarez. i think he will win this one

highly unlikely, but that's Juarez' only shot imo, and it is possible.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
didn't mean highly unlikely MAB's best days are behind him either, I just doubt he grew much older in the one fight.. Who knows.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Rocky needed to uppercut more and stop being so passive moving when Barerra would try to get off. Rocky needs the counter left hook and the uppercut a lot more.
In a rematch Barerra is going to win more one sidedly or Juarez is going to stop him.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Both fighters are going to step it up a notch in this one. Rocky has to get busy earlier and MAB has to stay outside and use his reach advantage. I think the second fight will be better than the first, dont think either fighter will completely dominate. But I think MAB has way to much ring savy to lose. MAB by UD.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
I had the first fight a draw. It seemed to me that Rocky waited a couple of rounds before he really started to pressure MAB. If Rock wants to win he has to make it a brawl from the get go. Any round that he allows MAB to box him he is going to lose. I am rooting for my fellow Texan to win a UD.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
I gotta say that Juarez had more in the tank and didn't take it to Barrera in the closing rounds.
Juarez doesn't deserve a rematch.

Totally agree,Juarez was lucky to get a shot in the first place,MAB really didn#t need to give the rematch but I guess it's the warrior mentality!

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
MAB will win once again by decision and then we will have the highly anticipated MAB vs PAC MAN II baby!!!!!!!! or like lots of MAB wars there will be a rubber match with Rocky J hopefully not tho since id rather see MAB VS PAC MAN II since they both are mentioning retirement in the near future

I don't see there being a MAB Juarez three,no way!!!! However,if MAB doe snot beat Rocky convincingly,he may as well forget about fighting Pacman,he would get beaten on and this is coming from a big big MAB fan.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
he should neve fight pacquiao again, he was lucky his greatness wasn't beaten out of him in the first fight, he was never the same again but it is still enough to beat these guys, if he fights Pacquiao again he will have nothing left

i agree, there's no way it'll be a trilogy unless it's a highly controversial fight.
whether mab wins this one convincingly or not, i think he doesn't have much of a chance against pac and the only reason he'll take the rematch is to get that last big pay check.
bro, check your pm.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Before everyone starts writing off Marco , remember how many times hes been written off before just to make fools out of the so called experts . Pac wasnt beating a prime version of Barrera in Nov 03 he was facing an underprepared , off form version . Also before we think Pac is the second coming , remember he got K.o'd twice by bums a draw with Sancez , a skooling from JMM which was called a draw and got owned by a washed up Erik Morales . Pac isnt consistant and it wouldnt surprise me to see Barrera put an end to his hype like he did to Nas

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Definitely Barrera was not in his usual form in that fight, he was really sluggish and just sort of reacting to what Juarez did. I think he'll do much better in the next fight and probably win convincingly by a decision. If not, it's definitely time for him to hang up his gloves. But no matter what the outcome, fighting Pacman will not be a good idea for him. Many say he was not in top shape when he fought Pac, and I agree, but losing in such a lopsided manner is no excuse. Remember Pac is no Juarez, he had knocked out two defending champions before he faced Barrera. Pac KO'd tough Hector Velazquez in the 6th, who in turn went full 12 rounds with Juarez.
-
Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
For some reason I've got a feeling that Barrera's gonna look bad in this one, I just think his body has gotta be breaking down, he's been fighting forever. I used to have this old fight of Barrera on my computer where he was fighting at like 115 and he had this LA Guns/RATT/Poison long mullet fro, the guys been around for fucking forever and he's taken a lot of punches, I'm gonna go with youth and pick Juarez. Juarez against a fresh Barrera gets embarrassed, but I don't think MAB's got much left.

I agree with MAB being around a long time and young, fit and ready for war MAB would take Rocky to war and beat his ass but I disagree that Juarez can win,I mean that was the best of Juarez and possibly the worst of MAB and I still had Mab winning,I expect to see him turn on the style second time around but you are right,if MAB DOES get beaten,it's time to hang up the gloves.

I'm starting to agree with that sentiment, that MAB may not be able to live with Manny now. I am a realist and I respect Pacquiao,he is an amazing fighter,P4P number 1 but I think his timing has been brilliant too...I will still maintain that a prime MAB and EM would give him hell. Why do I believe this? MAB-EM1,the feroicty, the boxing skills, they had EVERYTHING! Now EM has half that ferocity and MAB has practically lost it and is a total boxer, neither can hang with Pacquiao at the mo although I'm hoping Erik can third time around but that's being optimistic.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
Marco won the fight but then again I am a big fan and Rocky's not bad either. Marco had an off night that he manged to salvage with his experience but the next time he should train harder and box more. He does that well you know. Marco usually does better the second time around and he knows what it is like to be stopped and Rocky hasn't experienced that yet. The key word is experience but youth has advantages as well. I pick as a sentimental and yet a sensible favorite Marco Antonio Barrera.

Re: Just finished watching the Marco Antonio Barrera Rocky Juarez I match and...
I think Rocky will win by knockout, first fight was a close fight, but the MAB odometer is at 276,087 miles. will be very Entertaining regardless .

It's like I said, he is a sentimental favorite but I really liked the odometer thing, :) :)

Hahahahahah CC.
Anyways, only seen the fight once and I was in a rush because I was paintballing at the time so I was a little distracted. But from what I saw Barerra came on strong in the later rounds. It was really interesting to see how he struggled with the compact power puncher though. I don't even know if he made any real adjustments so much as he just waited for Juarez to tire out. That's what I remember from the fight, gonna try to get aroound to watching it but I have A LOT of catching up to do from missing this previous weekend.

Well, I sat out a round but I had to watch tv in a room with about a billion opened windows and unpainted walls (my friends house was under construction) So I knew that I would get one so I kind of kept one eye on the fight and one eye outside.
