Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Both fighters will be wearing 10-oz. gloves for the first time in their careers. Since the recent passing of Leavander Johnson, the Nevada State Athletic Commission enacted a rule that fighters from 135 up must wear the larger gloves. :-\
I been saying this for ages.. when Floyd is made wear 10 ounce gloves against Oscar or Shane he stands a good chance of getting KTFO!! ;D
This fight against Baldo is going to be a lot closer than you think ;)

it could happen.....but Baldomir has to wear those same gloves.......Conditioning becomes a much bigger factor when you go up in glove size......but these guys train with 16 oz gloves anyway.....don't think it will be as big as you think.
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Baldomir won't be able to hit Mayweather enough to make a diffrence. If anything I think 10oz gloves put the bigger fighter at more of a disadvantage.

it takes away the opportunities from the KO's.....there won't be near as many.....

A definate CC 4 you!
Man it will be nice to see PBF fighting with gloves that don't hide his entire face. I see Floyd getting hit a lot.
Thanks for the post.

Wait...bigger gloves means he's KO'd?
Or is it that there going back down to smaller gloves? I really don't know.

Wait...bigger gloves means he's KO'd?
It means there less chances of him getting KO'ed. Mayweather doesn't rely on power as much as the bigger fighters. So bigger gloves really bother him.

I simply think Floyd has lost some speed and pop at 147 with 8 ounce and will lose a considerable amount more at 154 with 10 ounce. ;)

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
this doesn't make alot of sense to me either.... please explain.

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
If you can punch you can punch, 10 oz wont make a bit of difference, its the style of gloves, whether you use the 10oz Mexican style glove ( More padding on the wrist, less padding on the knuckle , or whether you use the boxers style 10.oz gloves more padding around the knuckles and a bit less on the wrist. . The Mexican style Reyes glove will deliver at 12oz. easy ! but all major brands have either style " Punchers Glove or Boxers Glove, I always go with the Punchers Glove, I want results
! ;)

And if you were around early April, you know all about Sal's rantings on PBF's gloves and what style he uses ;D

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Bigger gloves = more KO's....you can hit harder with them!
Floyd has ALWAYS had hand trouble and with 10 ounce gloves he may be able to open up a bit more...call it a guess but I think PBF will do well with them

Thats a valid point Lyle but I don't think Floyd has been pulling his punches since he left lightweight... actually I retract that statement.. now that I think about it that was exactly what I was thinking during the Gatti fight :P maybe I got this all wrong and Floyd is going to start knocking out legit Welterweights... ;D
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
CC back cockey !
Gatti in has last fight and Mayweather both have bad hands and they starting to use those Safety gloves ( Boxer style gloves with the stuffing mostly distributed at the knuckle,) the problem with that is it takes something off the impact. and for Gatti he needs that Power, becaue that all he has. you take that way from him and he is doomed . There isn’t nothing wrong with a little Novocain shot in between the knuckles before a fight, then use the punchers glove and get your knockout ! if my opponents is wearing a punches glove, you bet you country ass I’ll be wearing a punchers glove. . especially with the fucking judges the way they are these days. New York and New Jersey in particular. they got something shady going on in them parts ! I want my chance at getting a knockout ! :)

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
WINNING gloves are the style they use, whereas guys with tough hands use CLETO REYES
GRANT gloves are what Winky Wright uses to put up his defense
The gloves really do make a difference
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Yelp style of gloves make a huge differance,
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
wasn't it the PBFvsZab fight were everyonesaid that floyd had an advantage cause his white gloves were perceived to be alot bigger than Zab's black gloves. people went on and on about how the bigger gloves gave Floyd more to hide behind... so how can this be a problem for Floyd... i think its a non-issue anyway, cause remember floyd vs gatti...? well this is gonna be floyd vs gatti II(with a little floyd vs castillo II to keep floyd safe)
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
I think that PBF will now have a Police riot shield in the ring.

I guess its personal preference, but I don’t see many advantages to the big white puffy gloves other then to protect bad hands. . they are easily seen coming at yeah, so its easier to defend. and if you get hit they aren’t going to hurt you as bad, so if your a fighter that likes to engage the action on the inside you will be glad your opponent is wearing them . now the smaller punchers style Reyes glove can easily get through the "Winning " brand gloves IMO and when you land your going to have better results as far as damage to your opponent. That’s my feeling anyway.

Yeah cause we've seen PBF wear gloves that cover his entire face so many times... Even his gloves against Judah weren't that big... Its just first they were white which makes them look alot bigger, and second Judah had really tight gloves.

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Uh... Floyd's worn 10 oz. gloves in both fights since moving up to welter. The new rule requires that 135 and up wear 10 oz. gloves, but the previous rule already required that fighters at 147 and up wear 10 oz. gloves. The new rule changes nothing for Floyd or anyone else at WW. And he still managed to KO Sharmba pretty fast.

Isn't it , bigger gloves = less speed = less power = less ko's ?

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
I think he means bigger as in weigh oz . if you wear the punchers style glove, you will have excellent KO results. the knockout really comes from the concussive force of the blow, from the legs all the way up to the end of the punch, that’s were energy moves right thru the glove into the opponent . the heavier the glove the harder the punch . However you need to wear the punchers glove style, which has more of the weight distributed at the wrist and less at the knuckles. , the power still transfers, now the boxers glove has more of the weight ( padding) distributed over the knuckle, this can take away some of the power, its kind of hard to explain unless you can see the gloves. the punchers glove fit tighter on the fist and appear to be smaller in size. because the weight or ( padding) is at the wrist. The boxers gloves look like big ass balloons , I prefer the Reyes punchers glove ! ;)
.

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Well i just find that i move slower and feel more padded with my 14's than my 10's , but yea the type of glove matters alot too.
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
in the gym I use 16 oz for bag work , and spar with 30 oz gloves , then when I use the 12 oz in competition they feel very light and the speed is tops. ;)

I thought this will be his first time using 10 ounce? ???

No, Sharmba was the first time using 10 oz. And obviously those weren't 8 oz. gloves he had on vs. Zab.
CC and apologies, Hairdoo. You've got it right. I got confused because I'd read in The Ring that the previous rule required 10 oz. gloves from 147 on up, and the Nevada Athletic Commission page states at one place that the previous rule required fighters from 147 and up to wear 10 oz. gloves. But that page also (more) explicitly states elsewhere that the 10 oz. requirement actually only applied to fighters of above 147 lbs. So this will indeed be Floyd's (and Baldo's) first fight with the 10 oz. gloves.
I don't think PBF could KO Baldomir even with 8 oz's anyway though.

Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
Weights not teh be all and end off of gloves though... I have 16OZ bag gloves and 16oz sparring gloves... I would rather be hit with the 160z sparring gloves than the bag gloves... they are solid...
I'd rather get hit with 10/12oz competition gloves than I would with these bag gloves... ;)

LOL yeah I think they made by Fairtex , Fairfax, something like that, they are big. LMFAO ! but when you train with those and get good speed with them, when you put on the the little 12.oz gloves, your punches just zoom out there like lighting. LOL
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
I used to just train in bag mitts, must of been about 4Oz... if that, got some at the start of last season... took me a few weeks to perform as well with the 16Oz on as I did with the mitts but when you put the 10s or 12s on it feels like the gloves aren't there... :D
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
yeah sparring with these gloves allows me to put mustard on the shots without damaging my sparring partner too bad. or them damage me. ;)
-
Re: Floyd + 10ounce gloves = 1st Loss
I have a real nie pair of 16 Oz sparring ones, padded so you don't hurt your sparring partner like even lighter shots can with 10 ouncers on but small enough so you don't rely on covering your face with giant pillows for defence and you can work on small openings.
