I was at the Barrera vs. Juarez II - L.A. Press Conference (9-12-06)
Woke up this morning to a phone call from a good friend over at GBP. Leting me know that he was gonna save a seat for me if I was interested in attending todays press conference for the up coming rematch between Marco Antonio Barrera & Rocky Juarez. I wasnt sure if I was gonna be able to make it. So I told him don't count on me he said he still would save a seat incase I showed up.
Well I get up call my manager and he tells me to sort things out but meet him A.S.A.P. after the press conference.
I get to the restaraunt El Paseo located in Downtown L.A. in a area known as La Placita Olvera. Walk in the room and WOW!! very crowded and a lot of excitment in the air. Lots of talk of what will happen come Sat. night. Saw a few people from MaxBoxing,
FightNews, BoxingTalk and others.
ODLH was there and kicked off the conf. with a breakdown of the fight and the undercard. I'm uploading the video I took there it might take a while if your interested check back in a couple of hrs. or tommorrow.
Quick note Barrera said that for the first fight Rocky made comments that the L.A. Commission had given him a gift decision in their 1st meeting cuz they were on his turf (Barreras), Well he said now that it's in Vegas he will have NO excuses once I beat him.
I took a few pictures some are better then others as far as lighting. The video will also be a bit dark and shakey since it's from my nad held Camera/Vid. Recorder.

I'll be REAL honest with you I've seen Barrera a few times prior to a fight in conf. or what not for some reason he just looked drained (weight) he looked weak and hes getting old, when I was up close you could see it that there was something going on.
I would say making weight is a problem.

MAB speaks on the mic. and discusses what I said on my 1st post in this thread. Most of it is in spanish he basically said he has family in Texas and that his family read and some heard Rocky in interviews where he said the L.A. Comission gave Barrera a gift he then says that once in Veags thats nuetral grounds he wont have excuses. Then both fighters stand up for photos.

And IMO ODLH brought that in to the sport of boxing. He was a model for a few ads., he designed a short line of suits.
He brought glam to the sport. Which IMO is good for the sport.

Thats why this board is the best we are who we are and in the world of boxing chat we can all come together and dish it out.

I seeing a big move as far as boxing here in L.A. I mean its always been here but its out in the open more, like for the Peter-Toney fight I saw 2 billboards off of 2 different freeways and I mean the large ones not the small ones. At the press. conf. there was more media (KCAL 9, Fox, CBS, EPSN, Univision & Telemundo) usually you see 2 maybe 3 large networks today there was 6.
I know what you mean about not paying $300 for glasses my girlfriend bought me mine. 8)

When I wear my Gucci Hat the girls jock and ask how much? where can i buy. I bought the last Gucci Baseball Cap left on RODEO DRIVE. ill post a pic of it when i get back to the crib ahhaha. Hella girls just come up to me and ask me about my Gucci Hat whenever I wear it.

Thanks boozeboxer... But I get excited ANY time I'm meeting a celebrity that I admire. In this case a boxer that I admire cuz 1st and foremost I'm a hadrcore boxing fan so when I was talking with ODLH I was shaking in my shades, same thing with Barrera I'll always be a fan of the sport 1st. I've been around ODLH at his Youth Center & other press. conf. but even then when your talking to him or standing next to the sports ONLY 6 Div. Champ. you cant help it but shake, rattle & roll. :)

Normally I would have disagreed but you guys are right,MAB is getting old and if EM loses,I doubt we will see him either,it would be the end of an era. I still MAB has it in him to win this one but this performance is VERY important because I think he knows that if he does not perform well,it could be the end and no way could he hang with Manny.

It's good that they've got it together and are showing this one live too - it's a proper good card and doesn't deserve to be boiled down to Paul Dempsey in the studio cutting between the fights. Am more and more impressed with Sky lately (though will choke on the £15 pay per view for Hatton/Urango...)

Who cares if Barreras looking old . Its how he performas that counts . B-hop has got 10 years on him and hes just coming off one of his best wins .
To me Marco sounds serious . He isnt messing about with hairstyles like he has in the past before some fights . Hes commiting himself with his statements and as weve seen in the past , a motivated Barrera is a dangerous man
