Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
Break out the matches & light up the dynamite people it's time for some Mexican fireworks in the middle of September!!!
Even though the 4th of July is long...we may get another shot at it...for those that missed out.
You guessed it...par for the course...it's time for another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round.
As we regrettably bust out our wallets once again for the PPV shelling & delve into the spirits on this Saturday night of September 16th, 2006 it's fair to say that two of the sport's more worthy combatants will be well worth the buy.
Future Hall of Famer & current WBC Super Featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera (67 fights, 62 wins with 42 ko's, & 4 losses) climbs through the ropes to right what some viewers have claimed to have been a wrong earlier this year. Back in May, Barrera matched power & skill for skill against late replacement Rocky Juarez (27 fights, 25 wins with 18 ko's & 2 losses) in a neck in neck battle that ended up in a draw but was immediately reversed to a decision for Barrera due to a scoring error.
Many cried foul...as we all always do...but the fight was very very close. Truthfully...I would have been happier with letting the draw stand than the reversal...but this is boxing & we have what we have. So...once again...it shall be history in the makings for Barrera as he tries to turn the clock back on father time in what will surely be another shoulder to shoulder battle.
As always...I like to do this little write up before the actual action get's cranking & I figured I'd pull this one out short & sweet...because to be quite honest...there's only a few ways this thing can go.
Factors for & against Barrera...
Factor #1: Power. Marco's got loads of it & in both hands. Coupled with his aggression, speed, determination, & stamina...this man is almost unbeatable when he is 100% mind, body, & soul. In the past...he's never seemed to tire no matter what he is hit with...and that leads me to this...
Factor #2: Endurance. In the past, Marco has proven that he can take a lickin & keep on kickin. Anyone that can stand toe to toe with Morales and the better of the division, has to have one hell of a beard & body to boot. One almost has to think that Barrera is a shoe in for the winner of this fight...which leads me to...
Factor 3#: Stamina. For some reason...advantage to Barrera...he always ALWAYS guts it out. Some way or another he almost always rises to the occassion...then again...this could be a factor against him as he might have risen one to many times.
Factor #4: Age. Huge factor in the fight that I believe is against Barrera. A few times in their first fight...Barrera gave in to what he was getting. Juarez was getting through & Barrera was wearing down. Granted he came back & gutted it out...the question is...how many more wars & how much more battle can he take? Not much IWO.
Factors for & against Rocky Juarez...
Factor #1: Barrera period. Nothing more needs to be said other than he's fighting one of the most accomplished men of the game & it appears, of late, that no matter what you do to Barrera...he's still standing in front of you...unless your name is Pacquiao...will skip those other winners.
Factor #2: Power. Juarez has power...but not in bunches. He doesn't have a massive amounts of knockouts on his record...but he does have a lot of noteable wins that came by TKO...& that's good enough for me. As I see Barrera's abilities & power my be wearing thin as of their last match...maybe Rocky's got the advantage here. We shall see.
Factor #3: Chin. Juarez can take a punch. Never being stopped once in 27 fights is an impressive thing...& getting by Barrera's best is impressive also...but if this fight goes the distance (which I honestly don't think that it will) I'll be shocked. I truly believe that one of these men will come out of it different than the last go round. Somebody's bound to get knocked out because Barrera is going to want to right the wrong just as badly as Juarez will.
Factor 4#: Age & Stamina. Juarez, like Barrera, can seemingly go all night...but can he go all night again against a fully prepared & determined Barrera? I say yes...no matter what Barrera turns up...he should be able to go toe to toe...unless in the odd event that Barrera catches him.
As you should be able to see by now...I've totally sold the fwock out on this DRBR & refuse to pick a winner...my heart says Barrera...but my gut says Juarez...but come the fwock on...this is Barrera!
So...as always...break out the chips & salsa...your poison of choice & pick your spot on the couch...Saturday September the 16th, 2006 is fight night & it's gonna blow up like a stick of dynooooooooooooh-mite!
Heh heh heh.
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
Nice Wack! Another installment. After seeing the first fight I had MAB winning by taking almost all of the early to mid rounds, Rocky had some moments but not good enough for him to earn the round. He did managed to tire out MAB and had his way in the later rounds so if Rocky can do it earlier he may pull this one of. Anyway very exciting turn of events no matter what happens. I see the winner of this match against the winner of EM/PAC. Whooo hooo Superfeatherweight class is Soooooo Exciting.

Agreed. Juarez will be game for this one...beating the great MAB is no easy feat to come by.
I want MAB to win this one though...then maybe retire...if he fights Pac again...he'll lose.
Not sure about the other fights...but probably...depends on the intake. :drunks:

MAB will beat Juarez by decision...after is anyones guess.
Morales? PAC? God knows....
I wont write off Barrera yet though...you have Wack!
Dont be so premature! ;D :-\

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
I'm going for a hard fought but decisive win for Barrera. By the way Wacko with a fight card this strong where are you predictions for Barrios Guzman and Gonzalez Vasquez, to say nothing of Corely and Witter?
Now quit slacking and start writing your pro's and con's for each fight pronto. :author: :zzwhip:
Just kidding :P

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
I think MAB will use the last fight to adjust, but it'll still be a long night for him. Juarez is my kind of fighter!! But the experience of MAB will make the difference, so I pick him by UD.
After that, I'd love to see the Pac rematch. I'm not sure who I'd pick in that fight! I don't think we'd see the same fight as the first, though - I think we'd see MAB fighting smarter.
Win or lose, MAB is still Hall of Fame material. What a career he's had!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
Great post Wack Attack! Nice comments by the rest.
What can I say that has not already been said? Nothing.
Seen the first fight. Rocky was a late replacement and I guess this fight will go to who ever wants it more and both have a punchers chance to win it. I will have to lay my marbles down on the older more experienced MAB. Marco Antonio won the first fight and I think he can win again. The only way he might lose is, if Rocky puts a lot and I mean a lot of pressure on MAB in the early rounds. It's gonna be a tough fight and a very good one to boot.

Wacko hasn't written off shit...not yet...I voted Barrera...I say above Barrera...heart & gut...that's two votes.
Now...don't you be premature & jump Wacko! ;) ;D
Premature...that sounds like something that would transpire between a gotdam virgin & his prom date. ;D

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
CC AS ALWAYS wACK,i CANNNNNOOOOOT WAIT FOR THIS CARD AND THIS FIGHT!!! I think MAB will win although I have heard he looks guant at press conferences, maybe the weight draining, the wars etc will catch up to him? I don't think Rocky deserves a second shot and if he jumps in front of Humberto Soto,I won't be happy,Soto beat his ass and deserves a shot more than Rocky.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
cc wack I cant wait to read this one! ;D I chose MAB by decision but feel that it could go either way. I am kind of worried about MAB thou, CuteMeMick said he looked drained, which worries me. Fighters never grow old gracefully it always seems to be overnight the get old. I got to go with MAB, unless he is fighting Pacman I cant pick another fighter over him. But I am like you wack head says MAB gut says Rocky.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
I've noticed in the first fight Juarez has good short, crisp shots from the inside, so if Barrera stays out, I think he can pull this one off. Besides, he definitely was not in top shape and didn't seem to have a game plan for the fight, just sort of reacting to what Juarez did. So with a good game plan, and not to mention a 'gift' from uncle Golden Boy, I think he'll win by a decision. If not, it's definitely his time for retirement (though as legend of sort, I'd want him to retire with a big win).

Here's the thing about the last fight...I was liquored up a bit...so I'd have to go back & watch it a third time. See, I watched it twice...but the second time around I was just trying to pay attention to the rounds as a whole...scoring the rounds on who did the most...not with what.
If Juarez won the inside game...I was oblivious to it...I guess I could just go back & re-read the first DRBR...maybe that would help...I'll see if I can find it & post it up again...so that maybe we will all have something else to hash out prior to the bouts.

Thanx brod, I'd never forget to return a compliment so a big CC for you too, Wacko. I'm sort of a punch expert, having been punching since kid, thought I don't box, and I'm sorry to brag but I'm a damn good puncher. So I'm planning to do some punch anlyses while I'm here.

Those hooks and uppers of Juarez did lot of damage there. The mistake Barrera made was he played the Juarez game.

You kiddin', I've been reading some of you're blow-by-blow accounts here, not only the ones I didn't watch but also the one's I did, to get some sort of comfirmation of what I thought or sort of 'comparing of notes'. This 'drunken' thing was a real damn good idea though, if you go wrong, you can get away with it. ;D Why didn't I think of it first!

But I have to admit your account Wacko is much better than the ones I hear live on the tube. During the replays, I usually turn off the sound and surprises of suprises, I come up with a different view than the first impression I've got from the fight. Those analysts really influences our thoughts. So first, I used to get the commentators' view, then my own view, and now I've got some other views here but definitely, yours are the best here. ;)

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
I thought Barrera won the last fight 7-5. I did not think he won rounds 11 and 12, which a lot of otheres feel he did.
Anyways, Juarez is such an interesting opponent for Barrera. He's a short compact guy, with awesome power, a pretty wide array of power punches, tight defense, excellent timing, pinpoint accuracy and a left hook to die for. He is not a guy to be underestimated and I think Barrera knows that now more then ever. But it seems Juarez is being counted out by many this fight. Not sure why. He came damned close to winning last fight had he turned it on in the earlier rounds. His workrate was just to low.
I think the best thing Barrera did last fight was jab and move. It was a masterful display of boxing, using the jab, circling Juarez moving every which direction, creating angles for his straight punches, ect. In the rounds where he stuck to this plan, he won imo. The only problem was he was getting timed with the left hook moving in and out. Another reason why Juarez can't be counted out. He stays patient and because his timing is so good and he has such great power, he is ALWAYS a threat.
Barrera's strategy of brawling with Juarez, and almost smothering the shorter stockier fighter may have been more crowd pleasing but it left him much more venerable to those short left hooks and uppercuts of Juarez. If Barrera is going to be fighting on the inside in this fight, I suggest he try to back Juarez against the ropes or something, taking away Juarez little step back manuever where he fires the left hook. IMO he can win a comfortable decision if he just has a healthy mix of brawling/boxing. In the first fight I think he got caught up in doing one or the other rather then mixing up what he does. Juarez is a fighter who is going to have his high spots regardless of how you fight him, but if you don't let him get settled in and give him new looks every once in a while, then I think Barrera will find the task of beating Juarez much easier.
As for Juarez, he just has to work more. Simple as that. He's notorious for having a low punch output because he has that 1 punch power and he hasn't really needed volume to win his fights thus far. But now that he has stepped up the competition, and he is in there against guys who aren't going to go down with 1 punch, he is going to have to start punching more. It's not like he is going to have to turn into Manny Pacquiao or anything, but he can't wait til he gets inside anymore to start throwing punches. One of his best punche is his straight right hand, best used when he has a fighter moving out and he catches him over top. But again, that's not going to work against fighters like Barrera. So towards the end of the last fight, he was crouching low, throwing the right over the top to get Barrera on the defensive and rushing inside to do his work. In the rematch, I don't expect Juarez to hold off until the 8th round to employ this strategy. Pressure is the key for Juarez to win this fight imo.
Very unpredictable fight, hoping that Juarez doesn't wait until the later rounds to put the heat on Barerra this time. I'm thinking Barrera decision, but it's going to be a hard fight.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
If Barrera gets the win I'd like to see him retire he has given us enough, I wouldn't like to see his road lead to Pacman again. As far as the outcome of this rematch.. I'll go with the underdog..
Rocky MD ;D

Premature...that sounds like something that would transpire between a gotdam virgin & his prom date. ;D
:coolclick:, Wacko ;D
I got a bit tetchy reading the tangents and variables in your thread. I suppose, as a Barrera fan, I want him to keep giving classic performances and dig deep to pull out results. Inevitably there comes a time when you can no longer keep doing it like you used to. I like to think that this time is not yet upon Barrera and he might still get out of the game before this even plays a role upon his career. I think he was below par against Juarez last time out and hope that this wasnt a sign.
I want Barrera to come out and dominate and take rounds clearly. I want a convincing UD. I can only hope that what I want is what I get.
And I still desperately want to see Barrera: Pac 2 ;D

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
I don't like Barrera. Not personally, but as a fighter. Maybe it's because I'm an Erik Morales fan.
Barrera won the first fight, I see no controversy. But Barrera will lose this one. I told myself that after they met the first time.
Rocky doesn't even deserve this fight. And this is not like Barrera to take a risky fight, at this stage in his career, without getting a multi-million dollar big payday.
My only thought of why he took this fight is because Erik and Pacquiao's resume's currently are too damn big and flashy for Barrera and sooner or later people will catch on. But with this Rocky fight, Barrera is still in the mix, taking on competitve fights, just like Pac and Erik.
Rocky, I hate that guy. All the talent in the world, and he doesn't use it.
No conviction whatsoever. At least Barrera fights with determination when he has the advantage.

I'm more of an EM man too but I really like MAB and think he will win but you hit 2 points beautifully,Rocky does not deserve a rematch and although I do not hate Rocky,I find him dissappointing. He lacks a killer drive,he lacks something, when I am watching him,I feel he has plenty more in the tank but he does not use it. Where was the jab,the body work,he's an Olympina,he should have the fundamentals mastered.
I expect to see far more activity from him but I still feel MAB is far too skilled for him. I think the early round will be every important,Juarez is a notoriously slow starter,if MAB takes conrtol early,he will win whereas if Juarez can increase his work rate early,it will be a long long night for MAB.
What do you think of Humberto Soto bro? I'm a big big fan of his,I think he can do damage to alot of these top guys and look,he beats Juarez and Juarez gets 2 shots at MAB!!! What the heck!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
we all like MAB to win because we love boxing...
we know there is that next fight to happen
mab vs pac 2
but what if rocky wins and em emerge victorious on the rubber match?
will pac and mab still battle each other?
i think this is still exciting but we'll be all kinda dissapointed
because its not the proper setting for it

Soto is exactly how I wanted to fight. He fought the perfect fight against Rocky. He got rocked once, but he was in with a killer undefeated fighter.
The Rock's lazy eye's bug the hell outta me! heheh He's even lazy eye'd during a fight.
Your right about the Olympian heritage, Juarez should have his fundamentals down pat. Maybe he's just spoiled and spoon fed, I don't know. But MAB has both skill and will, yes that's admirable.
I might even root for MAB this weekend just because that damn lazy eye'd bastard claimed he won the fight. ;D
I think MAB will lose, all the peices are set.
In the first fight, MAB looked like he wanted to fight back and get respect but his energy was damp and his breathing was apparent, like he was fighting in water. This time Barrera's older, more beat up, and Juarez has that damn youth on his side. IF Barrera pulls off a decisive decision or wins a close but decisive decision, or completely surprises me and Knock's this kid out, I'm gonna give him all the praise in the world. If Barrera does it, it will be by boxing AND using Rocky's lack of killer instinct to keep him at bay. Still, the fight was close and dangerous enough the first time that this is a ballsy choice by Barrera.
But I'm sticking with my predictions, Marco just looked sapped.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Barrera vs Juarez II
Anyone that fight's like Barrera is good for boxing, IWO.
Even in loss he goes down swinging & he does it beautifully. He looked battered & beaten against Pacquiao...but still determined...still tried to gut it out & get off the canvas.
That can't be said for many of our heroes of late. He's HOF worthy, no doubt, but I can see where many people don't dig on him.
I'm a Morales fan also...just as I am a Barrera fan...but as a fellow poster so eloquently just said...when it's your time...it's your fwockin time...well...in so many words. ;D

Imagine of MAB and EM retired? I think they should hug or something,I can't believe htat they don't like each other after all the wars they have been through! I don't think it's MAB's time just yet,I still think he can beat Rocky"
