Margarito-Mosley in discussions?!
There has been some very quiet behind-the-scenes discussion about a possible HBO PPV fight next year between welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito and former champ Shane Mosley. Margarito would have to successfully defend his title against Joshua Clottey on Dec. 2 for the discussions to continue. Mosley, who twice stopped Fernando Vargas this year, is taking the rest of the year off. It could be a difficult deal to make because Margarito is promoted by Bob Arum's Top Rank and Mosley is with Golden Boy -- rival companies that rarely do business with each other because of the bitter relationship between Arum and Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya. However, HBO is acting as a go-between in the discussions in order to help them along

Would you buy this PPV? I dam sure as hell would if I was stateside! Margarito has to beat Clottey,then Mosley,Williams await aaaaaannnnnnd Arum said,that if Margarito AND Cotto win,there could be a unification fight down the line.

I think Shane KO's Margarito... Shane would be way to fast for Margarito not to mention Shane's chin has been tested and passed with Flying colors I think he can take the very best of what Tony has to offer Shane is unquesionably one of this generations top 5

I think you make some valid points but I think Margarito will outwork Mosley and although Mosley is faster,and will take the earlier rounds for sure,Tony will take what he has and beat on him towards the end. Mosley has a great chin but it's the sheer volum of what is coming his way,and each punch has bad intentions from Margarito and this will prove to be Shane's undoing.I saw Shane look something like his old self against Vargas and prime Shane beats Margarito badly but I don't think he can maintain the speed,I didn't see as many combos and Margarito is one of the purest pressure fighters out there,I don't think Mosley would be able to take it.
Whatever happens though,itwould be an awesome awesome fight for sure and even if Tony loses,people will recognise him and see he is an exciting fighter and he will make it close. No way does Shane KO him though,I just don't see it.

Would you buy this PPV? I dam sure as hell would if I was stateside! Margarito has to beat Clottey,then Mosley,Williams await aaaaaannnnnnd Arum said,that if Margarito AND Cotto win,there could be a unification fight down the line.

if this fight happened, and margarito won then i would give him tons of respect.
i would pay 100.00 for this fight on ppv (but i would attend it if it were in vegas ;))
i see mosely taking a unanimous decision, and maybe even knocking down margarito a couple times.

CC back of course(have you checked your PM's?). I still think Clottey is a dangerous opponent and if Margarito overlooks him,he will be in trouble,Joshua is tough.However,I expect Tony to win and HOPEFULLY,he will either get Mosley OR (if Cotto beats Quintana),Cotto in a unification! Next year is it,if Tony does not get the big fights and keep active,he's screwed!

i was just gonna watch college football today, and the fight tonight....... but now i get to watch this at some point today.
i already cc'd you today, so i will begin your hailstorm of ccs tomorrow ;)
as for margarito/clottey, i feel clottey is a good step up from the usual competition that margarito faces, but not the big step up he needs. margarito wins this one
as for cotto........... good for him. quintana is a pretty dangerous opponent and i think that this will be a very competitive fight with cotto eeking out a decision.
and yes, cotto vs. margarito would be a great fight, and i see cotto winning this one as well

Wow,I can't believe what I am hearing!! I honestly thought you just hated on Margarito but I see now,you don't.I think you just get touchy when PBF is invloved ;D :D You have to remember,Margarito has fought more top 10 ww than anyone else in the division! I admit,he needs more names but I certainly believe Clottey is dangerous and a very good name to have. What do you think Toni needs to do to get Floyd in the ring?(Are we really having a peaceful conversation here?!)

Hate to disagree with you Gamo but Margaritos career so far dosen't warrant such a prediction Shane over his last 10 fights 8 of them have been top flite competition.....Shane is on an entirely different stratosphere than Tony...

there are a lot of factors at play for a pbf/margarito match to come off........
#1) if baldomir beats pbf (a long shot) and fights margarito for the championship (assuming he beats cotto) assume for a second that margarito beats baldomir...... then i think that the fight would be a MUST for pbf (cause i doubt oscar would want the pbf fight anymore) .................and if mayweather jumped to 154 without fighting margarito to take on spinks (saying he already was a ww world champ because he had the ibf strap from judah), then all of my arguments on this topic would have been in vain
#2) lets say that the margarito/mosely match does happen, if margarito beats mosely........then its a MUST (this is after pbf gets his 154 championship) because mosely might be the one name out there at 147 (aside from mayweather), that would catapult margarito to the top of 147 UNIVERSALLY (including myself)
#3) lets say pbf/odlh comes off next year and pbf wins and is now 154 lb champ........and stays at 154. margarito would need to clean up on a few big names at ww (judah, cotto, maybe even p. williams if he continues fighting the way he has,) becomes linear ww champ and maybe challenges floyd (linear at 154, by then ;)) then you have a MEGA FIGHT that would probably rival an odlh fight in marketability

True,true indeed but I would never compare resumes. Styles make fights and what I have seen from Mosley,heck in all of those fights which you have mentioned apart from maybe the De La Hoya fight is a steady decline in work rate,in his combinations etc. Yeah he looked excellent against Vargas but Margarito is no Vargas,Margarito won't just stand there,Margarito will go to the body and Margarito will use jabs.
Also,you point those fights out but he has lost 4 of those and I thought Oscar won that one too. I just don't think he could keep up to the pace with Margarito and Margarito is pure pressure,that's a fact. Margarito has a decent chin to. Like I said,it would be close but I'm very very confident Margarito could damage Shane.

I like those scenarios but I also have 1 too,similar to your number 3 with a few El Gamo modifications. Margarito beats 2-3 names,say Mosley,Williams,Cotto/Quintana,Collazo?Maybe has 2 belts. PBF has just beat Oscar at 154,(no way do I think he will stay there though,there's not that much money there for him),so he'll come back to 147 and voila,Margarito,with a very very impressive resume awaits,KTFO Floyd and earns the kudos he deserves.. O0 ;D :D
IF Tony did beat those names I mentioned and PBF had just beaten Oscar(ALOT OF PRSUMPTIONS HERE),and STILL PBF did not fight Tony,I would honestly think he was ducking then. Right not,I understand,he wants Margarito to become a bigger name and he does not want to risk his 0 before the Oscar fight but after that,if what I have written happens,there surely can be no excuses!

I whipped out Shane's resume only for the purpose of pointing out the experience factor....Shane has boxed 48 rounds with 2 Future Hall of Famers and Winky being the 1 of 3 premier defenders of the past 25 years...Forrest was good for a short time before Mayorga damaged him....

Fair enough but I believe Margarito to have what it takes to handle the highest level,he just has not had the oppertunity yet and Tony has been a pro since he was 16 so he is no slouch himself.

Styles make fights,I have done an Emmanuel Steward type of analysis where he says when he can see someone is tired and when they will lose when it's only the first round and turns out right,plus,I just think he has too much energy for Mosley. Hate to burst your bubble but Margarito couldn't hold a candle to the Forrest that beat MOsley, nor does he fight in anywhere near a similar fashion.. The only things they have in common is that they are huge welters, tall, with great reach... The difference... Forrest actually knows how to use it. Forrest had a great jab, Margarito has 0 jab, Ive never even seen him use a jab to any effect against the bum's he's fought... How's he going to use his reach and size against MOsley.. And don't get it twisted Forrest's jab and cross were what beat Mosley, sure he outhustled him as well but it all came from the jab. Mosley's head movement and handspeed would be too much for Tony imo, he just doesn't have the ability to outbox Mosley, and if he tries to just outhustle him without a gameplan Mosley will drop him like a bad habit. :P

I think Margarito has the size and style to frustrate Mosley
HOWEVER
How good is he? How good of a shot can he take?
And if he wins will Oscar FINALLY fight him???
I choose Shane by Decision but it'll be close

I think this could be interesting, prime for prime, pound for pound there's no discussion, but that's not what were discussing. I'm not sure how good Shane is these days, ok he looked allright against Vargas, but what does that say these days? And look at his fights against Cruz and Estrada, Margarito's overhyped compared to what he's actually accomplished in the ring, no doubt, but I'm pretty sure he's a tougher test than a faded Vargas, and a tougher test than Cruz or Estrada no doubt.
I'd go with a close decision for Mosley but definitely wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah because Hatton won't fight him...he's going to 147 and he's going to get some BIG fights and he'll be at the top when the dust settles

Styles make fights,I have done an Emmanuel Steward type of analysis where he says when he can see someone is tired and when they will lose when it's only the first round and turns out right,plus,I just think he has too much energy for Mosley. Mosley is not ready for that type of pressure,he was outhustled by Forrest,the same thing will happen here. It is a step up but it's what Margarito has wanted for the last 2 years?! Bring it Mosley O0 8) ;D and when Magarito wins,I want some love from you doubters and naysayers! ;D
Hate to burst your bubble but Margarito couldn't hold a candle to the Forrest that beat MOsley, nor does he fight in anywhere near a similar fashion.. The only things they have in common is that they are huge welters, tall, with great reach... The difference... Forrest actually knows how to use it. Forrest had a great jab, Margarito has 0 jab, Ive never even seen him use a jab to any effect against the bum's he's fought... How's he going to use his reach and size against MOsley.. And don't get it twisted Forrest's jab and cross were what beat Mosley, sure he outhustled him as well but it all came from the jab. Mosley's head movement and handspeed would be too much for Tony imo, he just doesn't have the ability to outbox Mosley, and if he tries to just outhustle him without a gameplan Mosley will drop him like a bad habit. :P

Cotto could of fought any number of names in his last six defenses.. but I don't believe I ever heard Arum talk of Cotto fighting any other Champions at 140 or even placing himself in position to fight them? maybe I'm wrong..

Perfect, Mosley moving back down to 147 after a big win against Vargas. Perfect opportunity for Margarito to fight the most weakened Shane Mosley possible and for the victory over Vargas to cause the Margarito fan boys to have an uproar about who Margarito beat if he defeats Shane ::**

Margarito is no better than Antonio Diaz. Who Mosley stopped in 6. He'll stop Margarito in 5. I'm aware Margarito also stopped Diaz. But it was a shot Diaz. And there fight was a back and forth struggle. Not a walk-over like Mosley-Diaz.
