Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Mayweather - Got hurt by Corley but floored him and won easy on points
Judah - Fairly equally matched , Judah just edged it
Cotto - Almost stopped himself but came back to stop Corley controversially
Witter - Floored/hurt him but it wasnt counted . Won big on points
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
I would say Mayweather,or Cotto. Cotto hurt him more than anyone but was hurt the most himself but I think he would have stopped him sooner or later. Probably Mayweather overall because he was just shakne for a split second on a few occasions,he dominated the match.

Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Witter quite obviously ::**
Corley has hurt Cotto, Judah and Floyd, he made tham look vunerable.
In the fight with Cotto the ref was glad he had the chance to stop it, so was Miguel ;D
Against Floyd, if Corley had been a proper light welter and not a lightweight when he hurt Floyd he would have bulldozed him, Corley was a few pounds under the limit at least a week before the fight against witter.
Corley fought scared against Witter, against Cotto, Judah and Floyd he made a fight of it, this alone says Witter gave Corley the roughest ride

Yeah but for ages corley has been more then left overs ;)
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Mayweather looked the best IMO....Corley gave him the odd tricky moment buy Mayweather never really looked as if he would loose the fight. Witter just simply did enough to win in every round, not impressive looking at all.

Witter? Quite obviously?
Yeah...maybe if they had fought back in 2004 before Judah, Cotto, & Floyd softened him up.
Corley was beaten up by Floyd the worst. Watch the fight again...haven't seen the Witter fight...but read that Junior didn't do much damage.
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Its a pretty tough one - the best defensive performance against Corley was without doubt Witter as he wasnt hardly touched the whole fight but offensivley speaking you could give it to Cotto. And saying that Mayweather perhaps looked the best against him. Quite a tough one to call and it all depends on what your own preference is for the art of boxing.
Just on the subject..Have you ever seen two boxers stand so still as Witter and Corley did at the start of round (r10 ish) for about 10 seconds..I thought my tv had frozen for a second..never seen a moment like that before! I like these bits of showmanship and it added to the chess match style of the fight.

didnt exactly see anybody at 140 that would bulldoze pbf........... and if someone was there, it wasnt corley

That was quite amusing, i liked witter's 'fencer-like stance' as well. I think Witter definately controlled the match up and although both are counter punchers, it was clear that witter ws much more slicker than corley, in countering.

Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Mayweather got caught with one loud shot, and he didn't lose his composure or anything. He still won the round in which he was hurt. Mayweather or Cotto.

Yeah I agree :coolclick:
It really annoyed me listenting to that moron Steve Bunce on the radio saying that when Corely fought Mayweather he had Floyd out on his feet.
Thats crap, he caught Floyd and Floyd fired back and won the round. When he went back to the corner he had a bigger smile on him than Manny Pacquio, he just loved that round. You could see he was absolutely pumped by it and really enjoying the fact he was in a fight.
Then he want on to hand Corely several slices of his own a** for the remaining rounds.
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
All I can say is, if the ref had not stopped the fight, Cotto would of eventually destroyed Corley.
DeMarcus Corley is an asshole. He said Cotto was not on the level of Zab or PBF and yet in the 5th, and Cotto with out landing one solid blow (cus Cotto misses with 3 wild shots), makes Corley take a knee. He knew Cotto was going for the kill and he should be thanking the ref for saving his ass from a brutal beating.
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
COTTO hands down!!!
Yeah Floyd had him hurt and outboxed him beautifully
Judah got a split decision!
Witter got a clear cut win over him.
The argument FOR Cotto is that he stopped him and he just battered him over 5 rounds. YES the Ref sucked, yes Cotto got wobbled....HOWEVER
No one else hurt Corley like Miguel, no one stopped him...yeah it was stopped early but you cannot tell me that at round 5 Corley was going to be able to reach the 10th

No way. Corley had Cotto flailing all over the ring, he was way to hurt to say he did the best number on Corley.. Sure you can speculate all you like about what would have happened in the ref hadn't stepped in but the things is, Cotto was coming on pretty strong right before Corley rocked his ass too, and at no point in the fight was Corley anywhere near as hurt as he had Cotto, Ive seen fights stopped for wayy less then how bad Cotto was... Clearly all Demarcus needed to land was the one punch and Cotto was on queer street... So I think the stoppage was bullcrap. You never know what would have happened especially when it can come down to one punch like that.. I think that fight was far from over at that point, Corley still had a very good shot to land something big, and the ref could have at least waited until Corley was taking real punishment to stop it.

Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
WHAT? He got hurt 1 time, you guys act like Miguel was lucky to walk out of the ring alive!!!
TKO 5....that's all I see big guy...Yeah Miguel got wobbled and the ref stopped the fight a little early but Corley was going to get KO'd it was just a matter of time

He was pretty lucky to walk out of the ring without a KO loss, and Corley deserved a chance to fight on, based on how hurt Cotto was one round earlier. That's what I think. And you pretty much defeated your own arguement.. the TKO 5 is all you see, and that's the only reason your saying Cotto did the best number on him. Never mind how competitive the fight was, Cotto knocked him out... Yeeeee haw, punchers rule.
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Cotto wasn't lucky...22 KO's in 27 fights...he might have been lucky vs Torres but he whupped up on Corley.
Yes Corley should have been allowed to fight on but the KO was on the way
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Witter from what I hear ;)
But the fact that Judah and Witter were the only ones of the 4 that didn't get hurt by Corley.
My list goes
Witter
Mayweather and Judah tied
Cotto.

Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Umm Judah got a SPLIT Decision...but I guess it's good enough for everyone else

I don't know how anyone had Corley winning that fight. Judah won rounds 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12. The fight got boring because Corley didn't know what to do with Judah after a few rounds. Judah gave away round 9 by trying to be Roy Jones and putting his hands down. And the second round because Corley was countering effectively, then after Corley tasted the canvas in round 3 Corley wanted no part of trading with Zab. Come on Lyle, you watched the fight, Judah won that by a landslide
And on top of that your defensive master Mayweather got hit more by Corley then both Judah and witter did ;)
In terms of most punches Corley lands when he gives someone a "tough fight" Witter was hit the least(56 times) Next was Cotto(because the fight was stopped early) And then Judah and then Floyd ;)
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
this is the 2nd time i watched witter fight. first time against lynes he did not impress me cos he got tired.
but this fight he controlled corley throughout, more than floyd or cotto did.
I think witter would rather fight a guy like floyd n cotto than a hatton who is in ur face. i believe witter would give mayweather nightmares!
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
I was at the Cotto-Corley fight. Yes, Corley hurt Cotto. Yes, he should have tried to put him away. Yes, Cotto was in serious trouble.
Then, Cotto came back and beat the crap out of Corley. Yes, the ref stopped it prematurely, which made me and the rest of the fans mad. 'Cause I wanted a Cotto KO victory with no controversy. But be assured...... the end was near. And Corley KNEW it.

my sentiments exactly!
if corley was a light welter and not a light wieght... put it this way....
if mayweather wasnt a superfeather weight and not just a fighter who is so talented so fast so pretty so smart!! :D then corley would have been murdered worse!!
nuff said sweetcheeks ;)

Agreed. Well said.
That's the thing...& it happens a lot with Floyd...just because a fighter has a little bit of trouble...doesn't mean he got out by the skin of his teefies!
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
Tough to call. Cotto hurt him the most no doubt. The judah fight, shoulda been Unanimous, not split, Judah had Corley hesitant and in survival mode by the end. Mayweather, aside from bein rocked big time, dominated the whole damn fight. From what I heard of the Witter fight, up till the 10th round then I had to go pick up my little brother from the bus stop, Corley had won AT LEAST 4 rounds, and that's from the bias UK announcers point of view. So I'd have to say Mayweather did the best, then Cotto, then a tossup between Zab and Witter, maybe with an edge to Witter. But let's remember this UK fans, Corley was not the same man who first fought Judah, and Mayweather, or even Cotto. Just as Ben Tackie was not the same man who fought Tzyu or Mitchell by the time Hatton faced him. Its the truth.

he was lucky. i don't see how anybody watching that fight could say chop chop was gonna get KOed. especialy since chop chop hurt cotto way worst than cotto ever hurt chop chop.
if the dumb ass ref was gonna stop the fight he should have stop it when cotto was hurt.
as far the PBF fight chop chop might not have been the weight he should of been but lets not forget it was PBF first fight at 140.

Corley should of took his medicine like a man and stop taking knees. Why would a fighter take a knee? Dude was hurting and was gonna get hurt some more and he knew it. The ref saved him any further humiliation.

Taking a knee gives a fighter time to recover from an instance and it can save a fighters win/loss column if used wisely. Syd Vanderpool was just about to take a knee in the Lacy fight right before the ref stopped it which is why he was so sad.
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
P.G.H Angel Eyes, I hear what you are saying but taking a knee is a lot worse than doing the next best thing and that is clinching. Corley should of tried to tie Cotto up. Taking those ment that Corley was hurt. Why else would he take the knees? Or was he tired? I say Corley was hurting. His face was busted up. We cant see the bruises but we can see the cut and the blood. Corley was getting served!
BTW here is more body work by Cotto.
http://miguelcotto.com/video/Cotto_Sosa.asx
PBF could not hurt Sosa and yet Cotto floored him in 4 :o
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
No offence guys but I really don't think it's that big a deal who beat Corley most convincingly. It does not prove anything, just because PBF didn't stop him and Cotto did does not mean PBF can't beat Cotto or anything. In fact,I don't think anyone beating him quicker, more convincingly, shows anything at all!

Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
PBF beat sosa after moving up from 130. cotto beat sosa after sosa moved up from 135 to 140. plus cotto is like a jr middle weight when he gets in the ring
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
It doesn't matter....BRANCO was his best fight so far
-
Re: Who did the most impressive number on Corley ?
I haven't seen the Witter fight but out of the ones I've seen Mayweather EASILY. Then Cotto, finally Judah who just did enough to win most of the rounds.
Floyd TORTURED Corley, brilliant to watch. Yes he got hurt once but it was mainly cause of how agressive he was that fight, even that round he came back to hurt Corley and take the round. He hit Corley with one of the nicest uppercuts I've seen in a long time, credit to Chop Chop for not going down.
Like I said, I haven't seen the Witter fight, but its very hard to imagine that anybody could have dominated Corley like Floyd did.
