Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
By DoghouseBoxing (Sep 16, 2006)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These days Antonio Tarver isn't committing too much in way of an opponent for a ring return after suffering a loss to Bernard Hopkins. Tarver seems more than content waiting for the latest 'Rocky' film, in which Tarver plays a main role. The highly anticpated Sly Stallone' Movie is set to be released during this Christmas Season. After the movie hits the screen, Tarver plans to continue with boxing and have a tune-up bout.
Frank Warren, Promoter for Joe Calzaghe has openly discussed in media that a Calzaghe vs. Tarver match up would
interest him. However Tarver doesn't seem to want to play ball, at least not yet.
Tarver recently told the Tampa Tribune in regards to a match with Calzaghe: 'I don't dance to nobody's music. 'I've been on the grind for five years and every fight has been a do-or-die situation.
Tarver also dissed Calzaghe telling the paper: 'Guys like Calzaghe have gotten by with fighting D-level fighters, but Antonio Tarver has always had major expectations on him.'

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Tarver is a clown. He beat a Jones Jr who was passed his best, he beat a very good journey man in Glenn Johnson and then went on to describe himself as the legend killer before getting thoroughly humiliated in the ring against a very old (though still excellant B Hop)....
Tarver may think people have major expectations of him but the only expectations I have will be for him to keep running his mouth, I have no more expectations of him in the boxing ring...
And as a side note, Calzaghe could very well move up to light heavyweight and close that over run mouth once and for all! ;) :)

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
what an eejit, i hate the some fighters who talk about themselves in thrid-person. calzaghe would fire shots/slaps from all angles against this cumbersome fool.

He just runs his mouth and doesnt back it up. An utter moron!!
He's old and fights about once a year, he should just retire really. He has little more to offer IMO...

They have people wearing black HBO PPV gear to make the movie look more legit. LMAO!
I guess HBO is getting a piece of the pie from this movie ;D
Somebody threw a milkdud and hit Mason/Tarver in the head and that is why he turned around ;D

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe

I didn't know what a milkdud was so I looked it up.

I'm still not sure exactly what was thrown at him. I'd like to think it was number 2. :)

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Im quite looking forward to this new Rocky flick. A great chance to see Tarver put down by a man who is nearly eligable for his free bus pass!! ;D

This is what a milk dud looks like.
Milk Duds are a milk chocolate-covered caramel candy. They are manufactured by The Hershey Company in the US.
The "Milk Duds" candy name came about because the original idea was to have a perfectly round piece. Since this was found to be impossible, the word "duds" was used. The word "milk" was used to reflect the large amount of milk in the product.
I could not find an actual photo of a Milk Dud on line so, I used Tarvers head and removed his ear. Anyone who has ever seen a milk dud, will tell you that looks pretty much like a milk dud.
;)
BTW, milk dud is what alot of people call Tarver. He just looks like one.

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Cheers Danny for clarifying that for me. Mind you, I had a good laugh trying to find out what it meant. :)
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Honestly i hate tarver but he does have a point. I wouldn't say d-level but he has been fighting c-level comp his whole career. To be in the game as long as joe has and his best win is lacy isn't all that great. Now i don't think tarver has the right to say it but it is true.

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
It ain't much of a diss considering Calzaghe has faught mostly D-level fighters his whole career. In over 40 fights his only non D-level fights have been against Lacy, Brewer, Mitchell, Ried, Eubanks and I guess Shieka. Brewer, Mitchell and Eubanks were past there prime. They were C-level during there fights with Calzaghe. Shieka and Ried were in there prime, but they were barely B-level. And Joe struggled with both. Lacy was the only elite name fighter (and he was never A-level) he beaten. That's one big name in over 40 fights! Damn. Now that I look at his resume, Calzcrappy is fuckin overrated. No wonder he's gone back to fighting people like Sakio Bika.

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
You have to understand that he(Tarver) cannot be Outbox Again ;D

If Tarver and Calzaghe ever fought. As much as I hate Tarver, he would knock out Joe

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Tarver beating Calzaghe?
Joe beats Tarver. The same negative people will say "Tarver was washed up; past his prime".
Who does Joe Calzaghe have to fight? If there are B,C and D level fighters who are these A level fighters?
Can a fighter who is unbeaten in over 40 fights be crap? From that you can deduce two things.
A. Their not crap.
B. You still don't know how good they are.

Maybe. Maybe not. It just seems that when it comes to big fights and Calzaghe, there always seems to be some excuse why they don't happen. The Lacy fight almost didn't happen because he got hurt in a fight against some bum he didn't even have to fight.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
But the Lacy fight did happen. He was considered the best, he got beat, the next thing, he was never that good anyway.
Granted Calzaghe is injury prone. How come when a top boxer gets injured he doesn't fancy the fight. But when a top footballer gets injured he gets sympathy.

Cuz football is a team sport, so that injured player has a replacement. In boxing it's just one on one. Foolish to compare.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Downhill skiing or mountain biking then. Both of these sports are inherently dangerous like boxing, but if the athletes are injured there's no big deal. Nobody says they've bottled it and looking for excuses.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Cant see this fight ever happening. Why would Joe want to fight someone coming off a onesided loss. I think if they did fight Calzaghe would box rings round him. Another thing Calzaghe has never been beaten in 40 fights. Tarver has lost to men that Calzaghe would annihilate. Apart from Jones who else has Tarver beaten????
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
I agree. I think a match up with Clinton Woods is more likely. :)

Lacy was A-Level all the way upto the first bell of his fight with calzaghe. Didnt hear many people calling lacy then!! Only when Joe destroyed him did people slag of Lacy.
same thing happened with Hatton, Kostya Tzsyu was a living legend and rick wouldnt last past 4-5 rounds but after hatton beat him into submission all he got was 'yeah but kostya is washed up and is past his best'
Its kinda funny when you think back actually, how people who dont want to admit they were wrong about something always change their minds so they dont have to admit it.

Well said, CC
Revisionism on the part of the so called fans is something that bugs me too. There was only a vocal minority on this board backing Calzaghe to beat Lacy. Now many of those that were saying Lacy would win have completely revised their opinions of Lacy and thus diss Calzaghes achievments in the process.
The Lacy fight was seen as a HUGE risk for Calzaghe and many thought he would fall.
Boxing fans can indeed be a very fickle bunch....
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Funny thing is though, its a safe bet, If Calzaghe was American, the same boxing "fans" that constantly slag him off, would revere him like they do Hopkins.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
to be as real as possible ......Jeff lacy would KO Tarver ,and Calzaghe would do no less than what B-hop did to Tarver ....
Antonio was a very good amature ...but he lacks percision punching for the most part (aside from that one night we will all never forget)
i even think he MAY be a shot fighter ...so i dont blame him for taking a rest,it will be nice to see him emerge as a test to somebody next year ,but at the sametime at 36 yrs old hes not gettin younger even if he is a young 36

Maybe them other posters, but you'll never find a post of mine stating that Lacy was great and would destroy Calzaghe.

Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
I have stated before that even though Hopkins blew out Tarver doesn't mean that Joe can, Joe & his style is copletely different from Hopkins' style

The styles are differerent, i agree, but Calzaghe is far to busy for Tarver, Tarver is lazy and for me Calzaghe would win a comfortable decision.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
If Calzaghe beat Tarver then I would be impressed.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
CC for the read Miles. I thought Tarver would have learnt respect by now,the prick! JoE C would swamp him and easily beat him,way too skilled for Tarver.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
I post alot on this forum but 1 thing that annoys me is how people change their minds afterwards. Miles is totally correct,I remember maybe 8 people TOPS thinking JC would win, most thought Lacy would KTFO JC. Now Lacy is nothing etc etc. Secondly,JC has only fought d levels fighters......name me the A level fighters he should have fought..... Remember, when JC cancelled the fight with Lacy once or twice, peeps were saying STUPIIIIIIID things such as he is fraid,he is ducking etc...give me a break. Fact is JC has beaten the shat out of everyone put in front of him and I say this,I'm not even a big fan of the guy but I recognise his accomplishments,he has beaten everyone put in front of him.

So did Sven Ottke. Joe has beaten everybody put in front of him. Thing is there hasn't been much put in front of him in his 41 fights.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Poor analogy, from what I have heard,Sven, the ghost Ottke, won most of his matches via robbery and second, who do you recommend Calzaghe should of fought but did not? Like I said,I'm not a big fan of the guy,but I respect him.
-
Re: Tarver disses Joe Calzaghe
Calzaghe beat Jeff Lacy who doesn't know the definition of defense. Don't overrate Joe because he looked spectacular against a guy that was hyped buyt had little in the way of stopping what Calzaghe had. Same can be said for Tarver beating a past his best Roy Jones. But given the styles of Tarver and Calzaghe, and Calzaghe's defense and ability and skill not being anywhere near Hopkins' then this will be a tough fight.
-

Besides the obvious fighters, he should of faught Sven Ottke when he had the chance. But that fight didn't happen cuz Calzaghe wouldn't fight in Germany and he didn't want Ottke to get the larger purse. Ignoring the fact that Ottke's lameass IBF and WBA titles actually meant more than Calzaghe's crappy ass WBO title. He always said Ottke was nothing to be scared of. So why not go into Germany and fight the champion who only scored 6 knock outs in his career? Let me guess it was all Ottke's fault that fight didn't happen. Just like it's Bernard Hopkins fault, Roy Jones fault, Kessler fault, Glen Johnson's fault, Antonio Tarver's fault, Winky Wright's fault that there fight's with Calzaghe don't happen. It's always somebody else's fault, but never Joe's.

I agree with you El gamo, Calzaghe wins in my book.
Violent Demise. How many of Ottke's fights have you seen when he has been defending in Germany ? I'll tell what i know, and that is he get's the decision, he owns the ref, the is no way he loses when fighting at home. I ask you this Q Why did he never leave Germany to fight ?
A. He would have lost.
