Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
18.09.06 - Mike Casile from “The Philadelphia Boxing Report”-ESPN RADIO 920 Philadelphia: On Saturday September 16th, The Philadelphia Boxing Report, on ESPN radio 920AM Philadelphia, interviewed both Calvin Brock, and Wladimir Klitschko. When I implied to Klitschko, that his “beard” may be suspect, he replied simply, “is There anyone in your studio over 220lbs?” My co-host Dean Replied, “Yes, I am over 220lbs.” Then Klitschko said, “Punch Mike Casile in the jaw, and let’s see how fast he gets up.” That brought a gallery of laughs. Klitschko was engaging, and had a pretty good sense of humor, but when it came to Brock, he was all business.
When I asked Brock about published reports, that the WBO champion, Sergei Liakhovich had knocked him out in a sparring session a few years ago, Brock got angry, and had a personal message for the “White Wolf”: “I am tired of that same old story, he did not knock me out. He is trying to somehow imply that he deserves this fight with Klitschko more than I do. I am undefeated. He lost to Maurice Harris who has something like 14 losses. I respect him as a fighter, but he should just shut up, because when I am done with Klitschko, I am coming for him!”
This brought applaud from the studio, as well as a chuckle from our in studio guest, two time heavweight champion, Terrible Tim Witherspoon. Brock further elaborated, “I will unify the titles, and quiet all the doubters. Everybody can talk, very few can back it up”.
When asked if he had anything to say to Klitschko, the man he is facing in November, Brock replied “ I would say thank you for the opportunity”. Then I asked, is that it? I mean, I thought you were going to say, I am going to beat his ass or something along those lines, Then Brock replied, “I am going to do that too”.
Maybe he does have a sense of humor.

BIG mistake on Brocks behalf of overlooking Wladdy. That itself tells you that Brock is not 100% fully concentrated on Wladdy.

Brock is going to be on those "Where are they now?" episodes after he gets KTFO by Wlad!!
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
I hope he isn't but he may very well be...I honestly wish Calvin the best but to quote Eddie Murphy's character Kelly Robinson from I-Spy
"Applaud this man, he's brave, YES, he's getting in the ring with me, that's like swimmin with JAWS!"
Wlad is too big, he's too strong, he's been at the TOP level of the game for a long time and he's JUST turned 30
Well at least Calvin is in the ring with a DOCTOR
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
klitchko probably will win, but the concept of brock knocking him out doesnt seem too far fetched to me.
we all know that wlads chin is somewhat suspect, and we all have seen brock's devistating one punch knockout power (which is all he really brings to the ring, imo) so i wouldnt be amazed if brock did hit him with a shot that knocks wlad out on his feet.
having said that.....................
if i was gonna put money on it (im not) i would go with klitchko by ud ;)
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
UD??? Fine lose your hypothetical money!!!
Brock = knocked down by McCline: which in turn means
Brock = viciously KO'd by Wlad
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
I agree with lyle i dont see this fight going the distance

WlaD= koed by Ross Purrity, Lamon Brewster, and Corrie Sanders
Wlad= Will probably win this fight but Brock has a shot, he is undefeated.

Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
I hope the ref keeps Wlad from holding in this one. That would make it interesting. I still think he is the better fighter but I can see Brock winning too. This is a tossup fight if it's clean. If they let Wlad hold, then it'll be a boring, garbage fight for as long as it lasts.
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
Depends on the ref.
And 2 things
1) Brock may not beat Wlad
2) Sergei may not beat Briggs
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go dow
Brock is horrible. This fight wont go the distance.
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go dow
After Brocks last performance I really can't see him being a threat and sadly, I find myself already looking past this fight to a title unification match for Wlad.

You know that my southern brother, Wait until that left hook touches that chin. :coolclick:

i think this could end very quickly i almost want to 1st or 2nd round. wlad will blow brock out.
-

i hope he beats klitschko. don't see it happening though
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go dow
Wlad dominnates Brock with a really hard jab which will set up the right and down goes Brock....but hey, I'm just being realistic here.
From the fantasyland perspective maybe a crooked ref will be a factor of maybe Wlad will pull some dirty stunt like throwing sand in his opponents eyes (yes someone on the forum actually eluded to this once). :shakehead:
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
Bye bye Brock. . . :boxing2:
-
Re: Calvin Brock: 'After I am done with Klitschko, Sergei Liakhovich will go down to
People have a ton of faith in Brock, I don't know if it's because they hate Wlad or because they see something in Brock. But for a man who has NEVER had his chin checked he's certainly going to answer some questions from Wlad.
Brock in my opinion is a very nice respectful fighter who is getting his first title shot without having answered many questions about himself and his fighting style. I think Wladimir's experience as well as physical advantages will be too steep of a hill for Brock to climb. I hope Calvin comes out ok and I would love to see him fight Maskaev, Peter, Lyakhovich, or anyone else that is at the top of the division. I feel Wlad is too much too soon but you can't blame him or his management for striking while the iron is hot!

Brock has a chance but not enough of one for me to waste 50$ to see if that chance becomes reality. Wlad wins by ko in 4.

DON'T COUNT CALVIN OUT
Don't forget how chuck wepner went the 15 rounds against ali
Calvin brook is rated soo much higher, Brook is usa best fighter, chuck wepner was just a club fighter
Calvin brook is usa hopes
chuck wepner wasn't even the hopes of a no name club.
Then again wladimir is the next greatest sports man

Yes but before that Wepner had fought Liston and Foreman...Brock has fought Jameel McCline and BARELY got past him and he fought Timor Ibragimov and that was uneventful
Brock is not going to get a win, there is no chance for him

why not put 100$ on Wlad win, and it will pay for the PPW + a date and some beer that is what I am doing.

Man where is Vitaly: he became so scary in the end; Sanders TKo and MAN DID HE KILL kirk.
Anyway Wlad; SO NICE WHEN KO BROCK THERE ARE FEW CHALLENGES LEFT. There is Lyakovich.
Thats it. Maskaev is BRave and a real HERO but to slow. Valuev is too slow. There is no one left.
Oliver McCall and Golota are insane. Toney to short.

Don't underestimate Brock, cuz with his power & Wlad's glass jaw it may equal a KO loss for the champ

Ive been thinking more about this fight and I have to agree with you Lyle, as long as Wlad doesn't have some serious breakdown in the ring like he did against Brewster, this will be an easy win for him... Brock is too short, not enough reach, too slow.. Wlad should have a field day. But then again, he was having one against Brewster, who was at the exact same disadvantages Brock will be.. Ambling slowly forward with really no hope of getting past the jab, getting completely blasted out of there.. Brocks only chance would be the one Brewster was given in the 5th round... If Brock proves to be a real tough SOB and takes Wlad's punches, anything can happen.. But it's all depending on Wlad, if he can keep it together and pace himself(which it seems he can do better now) it will be a total shutout.

Wlad is a heavyweight...he's fought men that are 200+ pounds.
He's fought 49 men.
He lost 3 fights. His corner stopped the fight in his first loss...not based on a glass jaw...but more on the fact that he had outpunched himself. He was legitimately tko'd by one of the heavier handed hitters in his weight class in his second loss. His third loss...again...a repeat of his first...he lost not based on a glass jaw...but on the fact that he had outpunched himself.
49 fights. 41 knockouts. 3 losses. He still fights to this day. He still fights with his heart & all of his power & abilities.
You seem to be missing the bigger picture.
Let's look at another fighter for example. 44 fights. 35 knockouts. 2 losses...of which he got humiliated in both, knocked out in one. 2 retirements. He fought with fairly limited abilities had a lot of power...but no heart when the tuff got going...he got outta the game.
Everyone has heroes...& all heroes have flaws...it's how they come back from their losses that makes them great.
Wlad is still proving his greatness...the same can't be said for some other fighters.

I agree with your overall point Wacko, and it's a very good one.. But I take exception to your Tito comparison. Trinidad was no more humiliated in his defeats then Wlad was, not by a long shot.... Isn't lasting until the championship rounds and giving it your all better then getting blasted out of there in a couple rounds, or gassing out and getting stopped by a journeyman? Trinidad, had "no heart when the tough got going, he retired..." You can't hack Titos heart and then say it isn't a problem for Wlad, that's ridiculous.. Id like to see Klitschko win a war like Tito was in against Campos. How many times has Wlad come back from adversity to win?? Once, against a very, very limited Sam Peter. Tito only retired after like you say, being destroyed by Hopkins, and after almost a 10 year pro career. He came back and sure he retired after Wright, but how can you fault him for that, he was completely embaressed and schooled, and obviously doesn't have the desire any more.. I guess Im just saying that if Wlad ever fought fighters that were p4p as good as Tito did, he would probably have retired long ago.
