Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
It was not a huge win by any means. It was an impressive performance in that he dominated a guy most people figured would beat him. In retrospect, Lacy was not nearly as good as Showtime made him out to be. Wright's domination of Trinidad was twice as impressive because Trinidad has an impressive history. Lacy's biggest win was Scott Pemberton/Omar Sheika/Robin Reid. Take your pick. None of them are great wins. Calzaghe and his fans can't go a day without mentioning the Lacy shut-out as though it even ranks up there with Mayweather's domination of Gatti. Newsflash: it doesn't. Fight the winner of Kessler-Beyer, who, without a doubt, will be a more proven fighter than Lacy was.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
Beyer isn't all that....neither is Kessler....Joe has fought better fighters than both of them but I agree Bika isn't the guy he should be fighting now

Take a CC to help out that ratio man ;) I agree that Calzaghe fans are putting too much into his win over Lacy. To be the best you have to fight the best. Then again...the SMW division has never seemed to have the deepest talent pool and you can make the argument that calzaghe fought everyone he could. Still, I think either Jones or Hopkins would mop the floor with him.

I agree. Though i think hop would do it better than roy. I say this with no offense to roy but southpaws have been his only problem. The first man to drop him was a southpaw and the first man to knock him out was a southpaw so he might have a little trouble considering joes height. But i think hop would own him because hes great against sothpaws. His best punch is the best weapon against a sothpaw:his right hand and I honestly feel joe ain't tough enough to fight hop. Hop is a rough mentally strong guy. He would rough him up big time and I don't know if he can handle it

;D
Your quite right alot of people thought Joe would get beat. But he didnt.... Joe gave Lacy a boxing lesson. Now how many times can ya say that about Mayweather, Trinidad, Wright, etc. How many times have these guys been going into the ring being the underdog in many experts eyes. And with that thought in mind, gone on and won so convincingly.
I appreciate pundits get wrong from time to time, but........., well alot of experts thought Lacy would win !
I guess only time will tell , who knows, Jeff Lacy may move on and become the undisputed SMW champion.
Im not a huge fan of Calzaghe myself, but i appreciate what he has done in his career.

Hillarious. You people kill me with this bullshit.
You all find it so easy to overlook all the other men that Calzaghe destroyed with ease...you all find it so easy to overlook the fact that he's beaten better men than Kessler...Lacy...or anyone else at 168lbs.
Deal. Calzaghe is a worthy champion...a brilliant boxer...& a respectful fighter. Just because some of you have your noses poked in some dark places that they shouldn't be...doesn't mean Joe isn't worth the praise.
Lacy was the best at 168lbs & he proved himself to be more durable than Kessler & fought better fighters than Kessler did in his first 20 or some odd fights.

I see your drunk again, eh Wack? I rather blame it on the booze instead of stupidity. What good fighters has Calzcrappy actually destroyed? Will McIntyre? Tocker Pudwill? Mger Mkrtchian? There garbage. And his win over the shot, glass jawed Byron Mitchell was one of the most "premature, the ref is my friend" type stoppage's I ever seen.

I tried to ignore it the first time...but unfortunately...your'e to blinded by your own stupidity & hate to recognize actual talent.
Again...you can break down anyone's competition out there...you can come up with any excuse or variable...but the man can fight...he is undefeated & he's accomplished a hell of a lot as a fighter. He's kept his title & he also defeated one of the most respeceted & greatest up & comer of the past 2-3 years.
I hate it for you hater...but Calzaghe is a hell of a lot more skilled than anyone at 160 to 175 right now. Excluding Wright or Hopkins...I really don't see that there's anyone out there that will beat him...& I don't just say this over the Lacy win...because I was lauding the possibility of a Calzaghe win prior to the fact.
You can keep on bringing that drunken factor in to it...but you just keep proving what you accuse me of after that...stupidity.
Again...you need to deal with the fact that the guy is a champion. He's also got quite an amatuer record too...but drunkenly stupidly...you overlook that also.
Go ahead & :sadclick: me...because I just changed you back to what you deserve for your hate. ;) :-*

Can't do that, I sc'ed you earlier on.  And your missing the point.  I never once said Joe, couldn't fight.  I've said he's overrated and hasn't accomplished a hell of a lot .  A lot of guys can fight.  Mark Breland, Ed Hopson, Kelcie Banks.  Them guys could fight.  But they didn't do much.  And neither has Calzaghe.  Yes, he dominated Lacy.  But Lacy wasn't much.  And I can say this cuz it's nothing new. You'll never find a post in which I said Lacy was going to murder Calzaghe.  Cuz I never taught much of Lacy.  And you keep bringing up this title he has.  It's a WBO title!  It's regarded less than the IBF.  And that's say something.  You say it's a great accomplishment that he's defended it so much.  If that's the case, than how come you never praise Artur Grigorian?  He held a crappy ass WBO title too.  He defended it over 15 times!  Why he get no love from you?

Haha, VD you the coolest f*cking guy on this forum. I cc bout everytime you post but still can't keep it over .500.
Anyways, screw calzaghe. Lacy is his biggest win, ask anyone. And the fact that his biggest win came against a PROSPECT says a lot about him. Hottest thing in MW or SMW? Please. He's never challenged himself his whole career and certainly doesn't deserve that 0 losses on his record. Hopkins would beat him with ease and make him look horrible. Jones even though he is a shell of his prime would still be able to handle calzaghe. Even Tarver who I don't give much credit to would be able to take calzaghe. But you know what? We'll never know how any of these guys would do against calzaghe cause JC aint never gonna take a fight he has a chance to lose. He is a good boxer, yes..but his record is so inflated with meaningless wins and there are many guys how could have destroyed him throughout the years that he just avoided by being a coward or by wanting to protect his record.
** Also, Im not making excuses for Lacy, its a fighter responsiblity to show up; but he looked so drained and lethargic in the ring that night. I don't think he's making excuses when he says that he fought 20%...just compare his speed and everything that night to his previous 3 fights. Again, he should have showed up and Im not saying he would have beat calzaghe anyways b/c he wouldnt have imo...but I i think calzaghe was feeling 100% and lacy wasn't nearly fighting at his full potential.
Lacy doesn't deserve a rematch cause he did get his ass whooped. But calzaghe doesnt deserve to be thought of as a great fighter when he NEVER fought any true elites.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
I'm reading and I will say it again. IMO Is better to be a boxing fan first then a Boxers Fan well if you are in this forum regardless of your country. I like Lacy but he did nothing to be grant a Re-match i mean Common!!!!!!!
What is wrong with Today's Boxers? At the beginning the fight anyone and everyone but once they are at the top they want to fight no one look at PBF, Winky etc. I love this 2 but again Common give us the good fights the want that you at the top will be challenge.
I have to admit I'm still LOL here from the line: " I'm afraid I will get arrested...."

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
IMO after destroying Lacy, Calzaghe deserves ALL the respect he gets. The only part I don't like is when he runs his mouth about taking over the states. 1 very good performance doesnt quite do it.

1 very good performance against a exciting prospect-thats all Lacy was. If Calzaghe would call out some guys like Bhop, RJJ, Tarver and actually MEAN it then I would give him more respect. But here's a guy just content to not fight anyone above a B level his whole career and he will retire that way.
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
WOuldnt be suprised if talks "fall through" with Wright either. Calzaghe would have such a size advantage in that fight but I still think he's scared to fight someone of Winkys capabilites.
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
I mean let's take for example B-hop I know that half of boxing fans said that Tito Will KO him because he was a nobody, who exactly did B-hop won a fight to be recognize before TITO of course other than that he lost to RJJ and of course after that he was a nobody an then became champion with no name.( recognition) For that reason I cannot count Joe C out.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
Joe C has beaten anybody worth beating that would step into his division...and lost to absolutely noone!! If he knocked out catwoman and superman at the same time, the haters would still come out in floods saying "well technically superman isnt even a human being, and well uh, catwoman is like erm a dudette". Joe C can beat anybody willing to go to super middleweight and challenge him.
I love BHop but is it any coincidence he went to face Tarver and skip super middleweight entirely? I think not ;)
Please, excuse my Catwoman/ superman analogy folks. Im a little stressed today! :)

I can see your stressed by this really bad post. The line "Joe C has beaten anybody worth beating that would step into his division" is still making me laugh. This clown always talks about how he wants to take over America, but yet never comes. He refused to go into Germany and face Sven Ottke when he had the chance. Kessler called him out after his Lacy win, but got no response. He's been saying he wants Jones, Hopkins, Tarver for some time. Yet he keeps his ass home. Like he's a bigger name than. His boy Hatton brought his ass to the US. And that was to fight Luis Collazo! Calzaghe should be a fuckin shame of himself. Hatton comes to the US to face Collazo. Who is no big name. But Joe won't come for Jones or Hopkins. Yet, you say he's beaten everybody worth beating. Unbelievable!

Maybe in terms of strength and power. But in terms of all around boxing skill and dimensions I will rank Mundine ahead of Lacy anyday.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
I give Calzaghe his credit for beating Lacy the way he did. But we all know that he has virtually a nameless resume. He doesn't have to stay at SMW and all of the greats move around in weight, unless they're HW. But I will say that if Calzaghe does ever take on a future hall of famer he will show people that he is every bit worthy of being on the p4p list. The boy is nice no matter if you want to accept it or not. But he gives cynics fuel because he doesn't take the fights that he should be taking. He isn't getting any younger. And as far as the Lacy fight and these so called experts. The real experts, Lacy's sparring partners, knew it was trouble for Lacy. My homie, Antwan Echols who gave B-Hop a nice first fight, was Lacy's sparring partner and he told me Lacy couldn't even do anything with him let alone Calzaghe. Even Wright had his concerns and said that Lacy needs to learn how to box. I was one of those people that thought Lacy would win handily and I thought Echols was punch drunk when he put $2500 on Calzaghe. But I've never seen Lacy in the gym so I was ignorant to his weaknesses. Actually I was mesmerized by his power and of course the hype. I remember when Lacy was calling out B-Hop and I saw Lacy's inability to box in the Robin Reid fight I said this boy has no business in the ring with B-Hop. Yet, I once again was tricked into overlooking it for the Calzaghe fight.

Patience Miles. No point in arguing with the haters. They were calling him a dodger before the Lacy fight, and saying he faked the injury against Ashira. Then he DEMOLISHED Lacy, which quietened them for a while, but now they've crawled out of their holes again.
There's no need to defend Calzaghe, he'll defend himself when he beats down Kessler next year.

I love BHop but is it any coincidence he went to face Tarver and skip super middleweight entirely? I think not ;)
Please, excuse my Catwoman/ superman analogy folks. Im a little stressed today! :)
CC, Its amazing how opinions can be so fickle in boxing. Before Lacy nobody gave him a chance in hell and he thoroughly whipped Lacy. Then of course revisionism sets in. If Calzaghe goes and beats Tarver its because Tarver is too old and Hopkins got there first. If he beats Winky then its because Winky was out of his weight range.
Always gonna be haters ready to sneer and bring it down instead of just saying well done or good job...

Kessler KO Beyer in 7 round
Lacy was the best at 168lbs & he proved himself to be more durable than Kessler & fought better fighters than Kessler did in his first 20 or some odd fights.
Lacy was overexposed. He was never an elite fighter, he was just whored to us because the networks and Everlast thought he was going to be the "Next Tyson". JC beat a nobody, and now everyone's on his nuts

I've never said this to anyone in a serious manner...said some pretty off the cuff things in humor...but in all seriousness: YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON.
Seriously...if this is all you can contribute to the forum...hate for Lacy...& mental images of Kessler's sack resting comfortably on your chin...I just don't see a use in your constant stupidity.
As a moderator...I apologize to my superiors & fellow members for that comment...but as a forum poster & member here...I stick to my guns.
You my friend are nothing more than a hater that is guided by blind stupidity. Lacy was a hell of a boxer...still can be...I want to hear you cry yourself to sleep everynight after Kess loses a fight...because he will.
No man is unbeatable...& not matter what you think: KESSLER ARE NOT KING OF 168LBS.

Same applies for Calzaghe. I think Roy "could" beat him but Joe would have to move up and would use that as an excuse if he lost imo.

Re: Joe Calzaghe: Stop living off of Lacy
It just disgusts me that Lacy was so promissing & that he was on the hot streak & that he was a hopeful & now he's dirt & Calzaghe's still nothing...it's just gotdam ridiculous.
When will it ever be enough for Joe Calzaghe?
He's gotta beat Jones, Hopkins, or who?
It's just bullshit. Unfair.

The same way that people get kudos for beating a fighter and soon after the fighter that was beaten is considered nobody. Happens.
i think its mostly Calzaghe fans trying to build up Calzaghe when it only makes him look worse

The thing is...& I wish I could dig up me old DRBR on the fight (but I'm too involved in our many other spats to hunt it down ;D ) because as I said then...it would boil down to Joe taking the power & that was that...that I saw them a both being able to win...but I leaned toward Lacy...then to Joe...then to Lacy...& blah blah blah.
Big fan of both...but honestly...I was glad that Joe won.

I thought Lacy would lose since the ringwalk. Honestly I expected Lacy to actually follow the gameplan of Birmingham but watching him do absolutely nothing as if he was expecting his power to bring him through he looked so predictable that night.
Anyway I gave Joe credit but I don't want to overrate the guy, we all remember how Guinn looked destroying Grant and defeating Dokiwari we've seen Joe look spectacular once, but before that we all had a reason he could lose against someone like Lacy, lets not forget why because those weaknesess didn't go away, Lacy just couldn't exploit them. Agree or half Agree or disagree?

I think that everyone (U.S. stateside) has always underratted Joe based on the fact that they knew too little about him & his competition...what they were & how they performed before Joe got hold of them.
I think that Joe is everything that he appears to be. Always have always will. I don't base my respect off of Joe on the Lacy win...but it was the cherry on the sundae to destroy Lacy so easily...I mean...Lacy was not just some overratted chump...he was undefeated & he was a KO artist & that counts for much.
The fact that Joe took Jeff totally out of his game speaks leaps & bounds.

Do you agree that due to style that the gameplan of Joe could do that with the gameplan of Lacy given their styles?

I meant that given the styles of Calzaghe and Lacy, is it possible that Calzaghe's style was one that took advantage of every one of Lacy's weaknesses and that the gameplan of Lacy(looking for one shot) was one that allowed Joe to do so?

Absolutely.
The thing is...it's Lacy's lack of defense & Joe's speed + volume.
Joe likes a "come to fighter"...& that's what Jeff is, was, & always shall be.
