An agreement in priciple has been reached for a December 2 fight between Miguel Cotto and Carlos Quintana in Altantic City. Apparently the vacant WBA welterweight title will be on the line. Ricky Hatton was stripped of that belt for not facing WBA #1 Oktay Urkal, so where Urkal fits into this scenario is still to be resolved. Cotto says he plans to keep his WBO 140lb belt, however a fight between Ricardo Torres and Mike Arnaoutis for that title (or an interim version) has been discussed.

LOL, I actually agree with you, not gunna drop the sc's but I don't see how anyone could feel bad about Urkal not getting a shot at welterweight, his being anywhere near a top 10 ranking at 147 by any orginization is laughable... Let alone a mandatory.

Fact is Urkal won. Martin Castillo 3 yr. reiging WBA belt in SuperFlyweight Div. lost to Nobuo Nashiro who was 7-0 Martin was having trouble with Nashiro throughout the fight. All that means is NOBODY is invinsible regardless of the quality of your opposition.

It doesn't mean a damn thing if he ran, and why would anyone watch a fight like that, Boxrec works just fine for identifying joke fighters. The fact is Urkal has beaten NOONE at welterweight, after losing to Harris twice at jr... And also, when Urkal Hatton was being lined up, I belive that was before Harris beat him twice, and the fact is he was a legitimate contender, at 140. Now, at welterweight, nah... just look who he's ranked ahead of, for your answer to #6..... Collazo, Quintana, Paul Williams.. About the fight with Mier I mearly pointing out the fact that he hadn't seen the fight and was judging it without having seen it.

Not only that, Nashiro was not an unknown. He had been hype since his amateur days by the Japanese writers. But you wouldn't know that, cuz it doesn't say so on Boxing Rec, right?
#4. Nobody complained cuz everybody pretty much knew Hatton wasn't going to keep the the title. Still I don't remember anybody pushing for Hatton-Urkal, either

First off the things YOU typed are just that something you typed. I didn't say those things, you worded them to your convinience to try and make yourself sound like you know what your doing here. You sound like your getting pissed off, relax it's just a debate.

All that means is NOBODY is invinsible regardless of the quality of your opposition.

I've told you why he deserves a shot already. Hes been ranked top 10 for a minute now the lowest I've seen him is at #6. In 4 out of 5 places I cheked hes ranked there in the top 10. I've also seen him ahead of Paul Williams, Clottey, Quintana, Gatti, Collazo, Cintron. IMO being ranked that high above the rest of those guys gets you a shot. Is that not sufficent?
So you can understand better heres a breakdown of the top Welters and whats going on;
PBF vs. Baldomir - Done deal
Hatton going back to 140
Margarito vs. Clottey - Done deal
Cotto vs. Quintana - Done deal
Collazo - Just lost it so thats that

Zab - Yeah! right now that would be funny if he got a shot at the title. Maybe another shot at the IBF belt.

Hasn't he only had one fight at 147? And if he had three you talk about ratings, what were the ranking of the 3 people he fought compared to the rankings of the last 3 Williams has fought? Does that mean after 3 fights against relative nobodies Zab Judah should get a shot at the Undisputed Championship again. Why don't we get Tyson to fight Audley Harrison, Dominic Guinn and a rematch with Harrison and throw him in with One of the heavyweight champs, he "deserves" it.

Oktay Urkal!  What makes it worse is your still debating.  You use all these diffrent rankings to state your case and defend his victories.  It's obvious you have no problem with a veteran of almost 40 fights, fighting someone who's 2-4.  Cuz you never know what can happen.  Man, cut it out.  It's over.  Do all the damage control you want.  But stop trying debate.  Your embarrassing yourself.  And keep the pointers to yourself, cuz there useless.  Cuz truth be told, you weren't a challenge.  You seriously can't debate.  Seriously.  I have difference of opinion with a lot of posters here. Wacko, Cockey Cockney, miles, amat, Pride of Boston just to name a few.  Cuz there's a lot more.  I think there pretty much full of shit most of the time.  But you know what?  They know how to debate (except Boston cuz he can't).  They actually make some sense with there posts and views.  Even my girl Sonia (AdamGB) can hold her own.  You don't. I really like good debates. I like the difference in opinion. In boxing debates things get heated a lot. Some times it's hard to determine who really had the best point. Pretty much who won. Not in this one. Wow. This was a massacre. After reading the thread, I can say this was one of the most one-sided debates I read in a while. CutMeMick, I'm sorry to say but you got utterly destroyed in this debate. You were unable to validate your views and Violent Demise showed no mercy in pointing that out. I personally taught the script was both funny and brilliant. It was the ultimate deathblow. Violent D, I think your an asshole, but your debate skills are very impressive

I've told you why he deserves a shot already. Hes been ranked top 10 for a minute now the lowest I've seen him is at #6. In 4 out of 5 places I cheked hes ranked there in the top 10. I've also seen him ahead of Paul Williams, Clottey, Quintana, Gatti, Collazo, Cintron. IMO being ranked that high above the rest of those guys gets you a shot. Is that not sufficent?
Dude, this is the whole problem. This is completely circular. All you're saying is that he deserves a shot because someone fucked up and ranked him highly. The question the answer to which you've been unable to articulate is "Why the hell should Urkal be ranked highly at 147--above Williams, Clottey, Quintana, Collazo or Cintron?" There's no good answer to that, because he SHOULDN'T be ranked above them. He's done nothing impressive at 147, certainly nothing comparable to what those guys have all done. If everyone ranked him where they ought to--at around #14 or so, maybe--there'd be no question about how "deserving" the guy is of a title shot. There shouldn't be any question as is--the guy hasn't done shit at 147 and shouldn't be rewarded for it.

Hatton going back to 140
Margarito vs. Clottey - Done deal
Cotto vs. Quintana - Done deal
Collazo - Just lost it so thats that
Gatti - Future not sure thats that
Cintron vs. Suarez - Done deal
Zab - Yeah! right now that would be funny if he got a shot at the title. Maybe another shot at the IBF belt.
The only one Welter who is on par with a shot at a title is Williams but his effatuated with getting in the ring with Margarito. But I'm sure he would NOT pass on fighting the winner of Cotto-Quintana if the offer presented itself.
Urkal - Fought at 147 3 times won all three regardless of the style he won them in (Quick note I didn't know that when lining up a challenger for a title shot, it was taken into consideration the fashion in how he won his last fight. I'm telling you Violent Demise I'm learning from you)
