Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
http://doghouseboxing.com/Gabriel/Montoya_092606.htm
seems that things are heating up between Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy. Last week a war of words began between the American ex-champion Lacy and the Welsh current 168 lb. kingpin Calzaghe . After Lacy spoke of a return match "after a couple tune-ups" against the man who gave him his first loss.
Calzaghe responded in the British press claiming that he didn't want "be arrested for aggravated assault".
Now Jeff Lacy has responded here at Doghouse Boxing to Calzaghe's words and seems to take them more as cowardice than bravado. "Yes he
beat me easy and all that," said Lacy. "If it was me that beat him so easy I would put it on everything. I would take the easy fight once again. So Joe comes make this easy money! I want to see if you have the heart to take the fight again. When I knock you out this time. I will give you a third fight because anyone could have a bad night in the sport of boxing."
Only time will tell if Joe Calzaghe will give Lacy what all fighters deserve: a chance at redemption against the man who first beat them.

Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
Bad night? That is the understatement of the year!
Horrible night is more like it.
I guess maybe this time if they fight again, Jeff will use the left hand he is so infamous for.
He deserves a rematch for the sake of redemption.
;)
If I were Joe C. I would take this fight in a heart beat.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
This is hideous!
Think back to the way Lacy was talking before the fight, and now he says "he beat me easy and all that", what a joke.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
Joe isnt making any other big fights happen, so why not rematch. The only other fights that woud be bigger would be for Joe to unify the rest of the belts. For the money I would think that Lacy right now is the biggest fight at SMW.

No, Calzaghe will break his hand against Bika and retire due to injury.

People rematch when the fight is close....
there is no need for this to happen again....
Thankyou and Goodnight....

This is true, but outside of a unification fight what is the next biggest fight out there for Joe C. at SMW?? There really isnt another fighter at this weight that can bring in more money and attention than Lacy. Maybe I just dont know the 168 div that well, but what other fight is out there for Joe outside of the other belt holders that will make his name and legacy bigger?

Joe C wont take another risky fight yet, so it doesnt matter how much money they offer...

Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
THat is ridiculous... I love how the article implys that Lacy deserves a rematch against the man who first beat him.... Yeah, maybe if he proves that he isn't as terrible as that man made him look, and proves that he isn't physically or mentally ruined from the beating by actually fighting another live body... A few tune up fights and then Calzaghe... That would really be a joke imo, he needs to fight somebody up and coming or a solid contender, several at that, before I would wan't to see him fight Calzaghe again.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
all i wanna know is how many rematches has lacy given to fighters that he humiliated with a near perfect night of boxing? i think the answer is none... and for two reasons 1. he knows theres no point in giving a rematch to bums, and 2. lacy has never put on a perfect boxing performance like the one put on him by joe.... sure hes had a bunch of KOs but joe thoroughly dominated him from start to finish. lacy and the retired klitchko are starting to sound alike. champions look foreward not back. champions make their careers by moving foreward not by running the same guy over twice...no matter what they say.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
A rematch ? this is the most funny thing I heard in boxing since long time.
There are no reasons for a rematch, this is quite non sense.
If lacy wants a rematch he must - fight a lot of top contender to prove he still has it, and takes a belt to someone...so in these circumstances, yes there will be something to gain for Joe.
Otherwise, I won't spend money to see another humiliating night like the one we saw. Who for the hell Lacy think he is ? he thinks that he's top material ? hell guy just fight the other top fighters...because you're not match for Joe, not playing in the same league.
This is pretty ridiculous from Lacy and ....silly..
Wow I didn't tha Joe hit so hard if Lacy is asking for a rematch.

It's always a bad night when you get your ass tapped danced on, look at Abraham ! ;)
doh, The :cwm23: made me say that Wacko ! ;D
No Seriously in that Calzaghe fight, Jeff was hurt very badly early in that fight and never recovered, Like Abraham he showed guts to keep upright for the full 12. really no justification for a rematch in this case. Lacy lost every round, Lacy would need to get himself in monitory contender status to get that fight . I hate rematches, and I particularly hate rematches that were one sided the first go around.

i think a rematch would be a interesting fight, i can see lacy doing alot better

Ok that was probably one of the most ridiculously ignorant posts I have ever read...Since you are an expert on how many people Lacy didnt give a rematch to....Tell me professor how many asked for one??? Also Lacy feels like he could of done better cant fault him for that..Not to mention he has only 1 loss and was a World Champion..Not like he is a Journeyman who has like 10 losses...By the way Professor have you checked Lacy's world Ranking????He still is pretty high not to mention Alot of Boxers have granted rematches that have made for some of the best fights and led to some great trilogies ::**
Yea Lacy is a Bum, and Calzaghe is looking forward to bigger and better things Cause Bika is a World beater ::**
Lacy sounds like Klitschko??? Again Lacy is still ranked high and considered a Contender in the SuperMiddleweight division and has more upside than Bika...
DO some research before you post or remove your head from your ass
By the way who is " THEY" ????

This is very true Jt Rock ! CC ! the rear view mirror is the other guys problem.. the future lay ahead for the conqueror.. I hate the majority of rematches ! very few exceptionswhere a rematch is justified. one exception would be the Miranda- Abraham fight, mainly because of criminal refereeing job. but that Lacy fight was a clear cut ass beat down !

I think so too. He looked really drained that night from the get go. Calzaghe was much crisper and right on top of his game..lacy looked sluggish and slow.
Does Lacy deserve a rematch? Of course not. But I really wouldn't mind seeing one..I agree I can see lacy doing a lot better in a rematch.
I actually think there's a chance it might happen, certainly a better chance for a rematch in this fight than most fights that are blowouts. Calducky isn't going to want to take a "dangerous" fight and he already proved himself against Lacy. Why not do it again?

Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
It's easy money if I were joe I'd go for it. Fuck sake he gave mario veit another fight what's the difference here?

Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
Could Lacy make it any more obvious that Joe C. has mentally broken him and is going to haunt him for the rest of his career?
Shut up, learn from it and move on. Joe took Lacy to school... and has obviously kept him back to write lines on the black board it seems...

It's guts and $$$$ accompanied by the hope for revenge. Sure the looser of a fight wants redemption, any true warrior wants to come back and win . I love Lacy, don't get me wrong, but the man needs to hold his breath and knockout someguys then come talk about a rematch. Know what i mean? To come right out of the gate after a huge beatdown and say hey I deserve a rematch is ridiculous.

I here you Lord's but it's not like Joe has capatilized on the Victory and is moving onto other things that are more adventageous for his career I mean it's like the same pattern..He took the most dangerous fight of his career won....Then takes on some assclown...I like Joe alot and his credentials proceed him he is truly the Kingpin of 168...I mean if he moved up in weight or fought a Winky Wright, Jermain Taylor or an Allan Green or someone with credibility I would say Jeff get your shit together then go for it but Joe isint capitalizing....
Frankly any Diehard Calzaghe fan across the pond would be lying to the whole world if they were to say they were happy and satisfied that he is fighting Bika...

Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
In fairness JTRock, Joe is in the twilight of his career, its not about moving onto bigger and better things. The Lacy fight was more the dazzling jewel in his career. Whilst I dont agree with the Bika fight, thats not the point. Joe beat down Lacy bad and with not long left in his career should give other guys a shot/make a big fight with Kessler or Glen Johnson etc. (again Im desperately trying to ignore the fact hes fighting Bika :P)

Here is a cc for ya JT, I got sc on this thread also.
The point is name another intriguing fight at 168 for Joe C. The only fights left that would generate anything (money or attention) is a unification fight. Besides its not like Lacy wants the rematch tomorrow, he said he wanted a couple of tune up bouts then the rematch. At 168 Lacy is still an elite fighter.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
I would like to see a rematch. I think there should be a few tuneups though. That fight was the first I had seen of JoeC. He was very impressive, but I do agree that Lacy had an off night.
There's a difference between being beaten on your best night, and knowing you didn't perform well. When you lose and know that you could have done much better, that is very frustrating. That's why basketball and baseball have best of 7 or 5. One game can be an absolute blowout, but the next a nailbiter...
I feel that many of the recent superbowl blowouts were like that as well. Not that the winning team wasn't the better team, but that the game wasn't competetive because the losers had a really bad game. It happens. I think from the last fight that JoeC would still win, but it would be much more competetive and you never know with a puncher.

i agree. I just don't think that Jeff should be critisized for wanting a rematch
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
If a rematch was to occur then Lacy needs to once again prove himself, you can't get straight back in after losing that convincingly.
There's other more worthy opponents - i.e. those who haven't been given their shot at Joe. Mundine an example.
The only way he deserves a rematch is if it truly was a very poor performance by him and not Joe being dominant - the only way for him to prove this is get back in with the other contenders and beat them.
Lacy sounds like the kid who loses at paper, scissors, rock "best out of three"
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
I don't even think that he really wants one... he knows that Joe won't give him one... there is no money, no challenge and no reward.
I don't care how much of an 'Off night' Jeff Lacy had... you just don't have that much of an off night, he can't beat Joe at this stage in his or Joe's career.
-
Re: Lacy Bites Back at Calzaghe(I can sense a rematch coming soon¬)
Being a fan of both fighters...I can honestly say that I believe that there is no way on this earth that Jeff could ever beat Joe.

I'm quite worries about Lacy,I think JC has gotten into his psyche!! Maybe it will affect him for years to come? I'm not so sure about jumping straight back into the lion's den and yeah,of course he can do better, you can't get any worse but I just don't see him winning and you have to look at it from Calaghe's viewpoint, people already discredit the win,why beat the same guy again? He wants to cement his legcay and I'm sure he'll get a big fight after Bika?

Lacy, much like anyone else who gets a beatdown is obliged to say he wants a rematch, Golota fancied his chances against Lewis in a return ;D
Calzaghe should be gone before Lacy is ready for any return anyway.

Revenge and redemption is one hell of a motivator....The burning desire to right a perceived wrong or succedd were you failed...I mean Jeff is no different than any of us, how many times have you screwed something up or lost really bad when you competed in something or missed a promotion or advancement at work cause you had a bad stretch???? After you dusted yourself off and collected your thoughts and searched your Soul, didn't you say to yourself " I know I am better than this and I could of done better" and immediatly searched for redemption....
Joe had a Magical nite when he fought Lacy....NO DOUBT, but even the most fierce Lacy hater had to admit that Jeff looked flat and not his self and fought not even a 1/4 of his ability
