MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
http://ringtalk.com/index.php?action...ments=1&id=860
THE PINOY” LOOKS TO START TROUBLE
San Francisco, CA-While it’s perfectly clear that Marco Antonio Barrera is a better fighter than Erik Morales (Barrera has a 2-1 advantage facing Morales), is it possible that Erik Morales has had a greater career than his Mexican rival? At 122, Morales has the edge on Barrera because of a victory over Barrera in their epic battle. Barrera’s fight against Kennedy McKinney was his only marquee win at 122. Barrera also lost twice to Junior Jones, who got knocked out by Morales. When both fighters moved up to featherweight, Barrera dominated the division, beating Prince Naseem Hamed and Erik Morales. However, Barrera was ran out the ring against Manny Pacquiao, while Morales moved up to 130lbs to unify the division.
THERE'S CERTAINLY ROOM FOR ARGUMENT
Even at featherweight, Morales posted a victory over Paulie Ayala, who hadn’t lost in years. After getting stopped by Pacquiao, Barrera became the first man to knock out Ayala, though Paulie looked like a shot fighter. Barrera is undefeated at 130lbs, beating Morales, convincingly, for a second time. However, Morales’ wins over Pacquiao, Carlos Hernandez, and Jesus Chavez were still greater than Barrera’s wins from Rocky Juarez and Robbie Peden. While I think Barrera beats Morales more times than not, "El Terrible’s" willingness to fight anyone at the peak of their careers (as evidenced by his decision to fight Pacquiao without a tune-up) may prove to be the greater boxing career when it’s all said and done.
Pooorly written article as there are too many fights and examples missing but I like the gist of it,I truly believe that EM has had a greater career than MAb,compare the resumes, what do you think?

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
On that note.
Who do you think will be looked as the greater fighter.
De La Hoya or Trinidad?

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
*Chuckles*
Barrera > Morales
Dela Hoya > Trinidad

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
I love to watch both Barrera and Morales...both are great fighters. But for me...Barrera is the better boxer. Marco is just a smart fighter in the ring....he has been able to adapt and evolve over the years...he can fight technically and also brawl...and many times do both in the same fight. Eric is just to easily lured into a brawl. Morales often just does not utilize all of his tools and his pride makes him fight stupid sometimes (while that's entertaining for us fans, it's not strategically smart). The writer also says how Eric is always willing to go to war with the best....but in all honesty...as much I respect that...all the wars could have shortened his career. Barrera just knows how to pace himself better...both in a fight....and in his career. For me personally, their trilogy are my favorite fights to watch. As for Oscar and Felix....not even close for me. Oscar is the far more superior boxer...more multi-dimensional...while Felix relied primarily on his power.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
I definetly think Morales has a better resume, and I think he is a slightly better fighter as well... I really don't like the way the article opens up with
"While it’s perfectly clear that Marco Antonio Barrera is a better fighter than Erik Morales (Barrera has a 2-1 advantage facing Morales)"....... So by that measure is it perfectly clear that Junior Jones is a better fighter then Barerra?? Stupid if you ask me, MOrales won the first, MAB won the 2nd, and the third by a hair but MOrales was close to stopping him in the last round. I would give a very slight edge to MOrales, I think he has better wins and against anyone besides Barerra, he never appeared a lesser fighter then Marco imo... Going by any common opponents they have MOrales has a huge edge... Look how badly Pac destroyed Barerra, and then Erik beat him... he KOed Junior Jones, dominated Ayala first, plus I think Jesus Chavez and In Jin Chi were both stellar and dangerous opponents who were better then anyone Barerra has defeated at 130 besides Morales. . Actually In Jin chi was probably a feather, but still.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
there both great fighters who will be in the hall of fame, but i feel mab is just a bit better

I thought that Morales won the second fight.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
This is one of those debates that we can argue until we are blue in the face. As far as common opponents...i think Junior Jones was just one of those fighters that was a stylistic problem for Marco. As for Manny, i will hold judgment on that one until a rematch with Marco. I just feel Marco is a more complete fighter. Barrera didn't fight Chavez and Chi so that's a mute point (though I personally feel he could have beaten both). Both Marco and Eric are great fighters....I just think Marco is the better all around fighter.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
I'd have to go with EM, I still think he is the best fighter out there if he just boxes and picks his spot and go to war at the right time(Not everytime he is hit with something solid). MAB is a master boxer no question but given Erik's physical advantages he'll beat Barrera to the punch.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
i think that Morales is the greater fighter just for the fact that he fought better opposition more constantly than MAB, both have even amount of quality opponants, but Morales fought against them more frequently
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Both amazing fighters and warriors....Its was MAB's ring intellegence that makes him the greater fighter but only just. They are both GOAT's and HOF definates.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Its definately gota be Barrera . Not only has he won the trilogy but I think hes had teh better career and hes been able to adapt his style unlike Morales . Plus Eriks had a bad finish to his career but Barreras looking as dominanat as ever
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
CC P4P,you nailed it bro. MAB has the longevity, the adaptability but I don't think EM gets the credit he deserves. He HAS fought better opposition,I'll write down the fighters if you want, has beat most of the better names on MAB's resume before/more convincingly than MAB and ok,he lost their trilogy but you could score that in soooooo many different ways! I had the first to MAB,second to Morales and the last 1 a draw. It's not just about the greater fighter,I think resume is VERY VERY important too and people, don't forget,Morales is an AWESOME boxer too,he has just looked ragged in the last couple of years(and still won),he is very very skilled, can counter, lead, backfoot, jab, bodywork, combos, lateral movement, head movement etc etc.

Agreed man.
Also the great CARLOS FAMOSO HERNANDEZ!!!!!!!
Hernandez handled Champion Steve Forbes, who by the way, in his old age WAS ABLE to compete at a MUCH HIGHER WEIGHT CLASS and make it to the finals of THE CONTENDER. Steve took on all those young guns and made it with flurries, ring generalship, and heart. (Actually I thought Steve won the whole thing, but it was no robbery.)
I saw that fight Forbes vs Hernandez on tv, and me, being a total novice to boxing, thought Forbes wasn't good. But what I didn't realize was that Hernandez was one TOUGH MUTHERF*CKER!!!!! umm .... That's an understatement. He was a World Class Boxer. There, that's better. Famoso trained his ass off for that fight and he put all his heart into the fight.
I drove all the way to Vegas MGM Grand(many hours), that was my first attendance at a big fight and the first time I watched Erik Morales live. I knew Famoso would bring it. It was a great fight and night. And that fight was at 130lbs.
After the fight, I also saw Carlos' beautiful wife crying. She was hugging fans as she walked out of the arena.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
I've said it before ERIK is the better of the 2, I remember doing a thread a while back and comparing the 2 side by side. Opposition, Longevity, Skill, Titles, Key Victories etc. etc.
Final verdict both are GREAT but when comparing Erik takes it.

Yeah I didn't mention the Hernandez fight because I actually havent seen it, but certainly it's another great name on Morales resume.. Hernandez really is a warrior... Speaking of his wife crying makes me remember Hernandez crying after he was shafted against Bobby Pac.. THat was a disgraceful robbery.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Yes, Famoso is just one of those fighters who PUTS EVERYTHING in a fight.
A very special fighter.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
by the way Gyro, how did you score the MOrales Hernandez fight, how close was it really.. I was just looking on boxrec and 2 judges had Morales 119-109 and another 115-113... What did you think?
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
MANNY "PACMAN" PACQUIAO IS THE BEST OF THEM ALL. HE HAS DEMOLISHED THESE TWO GUYS CONVINCINGLY BY KO'S. WHAT MORE CAN YOU PROVE THAT HE IS NOT THE BEST? THAT'S WHY MANNY IS CALLED THE DESTROYER FOR NOTHING. NEXT TIME, GUYS, YOU STOP TALKING ABOUT LOSERS. GO TO THE WINNER, THE PHILIPPINES' PRIDE IN MANNY PACQUAIO. ENOUGH SAID. ;D

I did have a score at the time. I don't know what it was now.
Boxing is an odd sport. You work VERY hard, but if you lose the round the other guy wins the round and you get nothing... even if it's a close round.
Morales' talent and conditioning lead him to an exciting victory. Great fight. Famoso never gave up. All I can say is that many thought it was close. It was one of those fights where Famoso brought EVERYTHING and came with EVERYTHING, but lost to a better fighter that night.
I know I didn't have it 115-113! WAY TOO CLOSE!!! Famoso's heart made it close, but I have to count Morales' skillfull display!!!
119-109 is a shutout! haha The fight wasn't a shutout, by no means.
But it was one of those fights where Famoso landed two punches on Morales' head, but Morales slipped 3 of them and landed a 1-2 cleanly on Famoso's head. And Famoso kept truckin' while Morales slipped a few and landed some crowd pleasing combo's. But Famoso made it great for his fans by never giving up and landing a few great punches.
But no doubt Morales won convincingly.

Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
IF Morales wins I want him to fight Raheem again
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
i think morales is the greater FIGHTER while barrera maybe
the better BOXER..
need not to explain this ryt?
El Terrible is a FIGHTER who goes into WARS
even if its the enemy's weapon he uses
he managed to win, most of the time

IF Raheem beat Fretas convincingly, you'd have a case for your "want." But Raheem was waaaayy too apprehensive on that night. So was Frietas; ugly fight. Raheem
has the style where he NEEDS a belt to be involved into big fights, and he didn't
FIGHT Freitas enough to win or lose convincingly. Raheem needed to take Freitas'
heart and make PooPoo of PoPo, but he didn't have that urgency. He left the ring
with energy left in the tank and no belt.
Raheem is small time, sorry to say. His only claim to fame IS Morales.
He "beat" Rocky, but we all saw how good Rock is. heheh
Yes, I'm being a little too extreme, but I have to to clarify.
If Morales was 27, I would TOTALLY agree with you. But at this point in Morales' career I'd rather see him in fights with
Barrera Morales IV
JMM vs Morales
But if Morales gives Raheem a rematch, damn, just give Morales p4p 1 status just based on balls. hahaha He already has more balls than any fighter p4p today. haha
About who Morales faces next, if he does well with Pacquiao:
I'm talking BIG name opponents that will guarantee a HUGE crowd and more than MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of viewers! A pay-day where Morales could retire very comfortably.
If Morales moves up to 135lbs, why fight Raheem? When he can face champion Freitas?
OR better yet Diego Corrales!!!! IT RHYMES!!! MORALES CORRALES!

Erik's career hasn't finished yet, a win over Pacquiao would blow every win that Barrera has had in his comeback away (besides the Morales win), Fanka, Peden, and Juarez would look like walks in the park compared to a win over Pacquiao
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Morales win over Pacquiao? Dream on, El Terrible Dude. Pacman's fists will just do the talking in November.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
dream on my ass, the last win over Morales wasn't any piece of cake for Manny to do, i as well as many others only had Pacquiao ahead by one round at the time of the stoppage
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
your idol, terrible dude, was stopped by blistering fists of the Pac. that's the painful truth. what's so humiliating than to kiss the canvass and be counted out by the ref. i just hope morales has guts you have. ;D
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
yea i guess you forgot that Pacquiao was KO'd by less
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
oh yeah. that was past. but look how he evolved to be THE DESTROYER of Mexican would-be-greats. Knocked them, man. He knocked them out including your old man.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
funny how my old man as you put it, whooped Pacquiao's ass for 12 rounds, and will again Nov 18
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
review the 1st fight, terrible dude. pac lost that fight because of your old man's headbutt. but he fought to the end and he almost whooped your old man's ass. but the 2nd fight is no contest ---- your old man was in dreamland.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
you're a perfect example of an idiot posting, next we're gonna hear that Hopkins beat Trinidad cause he hit him behind the head
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
wake up, man. review the tapes. there was a headbutt --- accidental or not. but the 2nd fight was the defining moment for the Destroyer of Would Be Greats.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Hey, El Terrible dude, who was that guy who made a mincemeat of your old man before he got knocked out by the Destroyer/Pacman? King Raheem who? He's nobody, right?
Morales was beaten by a nobody and knocked out by the Fililpino idol. Oh, before that, he got licked by his old friend Barrera. Is that your ideal of greatness? He lost his last three fights. Mwehehehe.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
you seriously don't know your shit, he WHOOPED Pacquiao, lost to Raheem, and then to Pacquiao, that's 2 retard, and yea MAB fights Pacquiao again, and it'll be a compltelely different story
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
Wow! Terrible Dude, what an elephant's memory you have there for Morales' string of losses. But who is Raheem? I heard he was an Olympic champ. He clobbered Morales. So pathetic your guy was. Hehehe.
-
Re: MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)
yea besides the fact that the fight took place at 135, and he would do the same thing to Pacquiao, and you're trying to boost up Pacquiao to be the greatest fighter, yet bring him down with your own stupidity, if Morales is such an old man as you put it, and if him and Barrera both suck as bad as you say, why should his victories over either of them matter anything, i mean you've said yourself, they are would of been greats, so that means that Pacquiao is nothing but an old man beater, and that he hasn't had any real big wins either. :o
