When will the hatred of PBF stop?
There was a special on foxsports net about PBF and how dedicated he was to the sport. They say he trains harder then any other boxer in history, they say he could be anywhere (club, dinner, game, park, home) and he will start running a 4-5 mile run out of nowhere and that's including in any kind of clothing. He trains like a maniac and is dedicated to his profession but yet he recieves so much hatred around the boxing community. Thier was a poll on this forum that was askins "who do you want to win the PBF Vs Baldomir fight. The votes went to Boldomir. Can Floyd ever get rid of this hatred.

I agree that he needs to grow up but it looks like he has gotten a little better over the years as far as attitude, he still has a way's to go but he has been more friendly with the media and he should start to gain more fans.

It just pissed me off cos Baldo is a good guy and the way he talks about him is just a fuking joke! i would love to see baldo beat him..i know its unlikely but it would atleast teach floyd to button it!

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
Can't stop people from hating a guy, no reason to, I could care less if people like my favorite fighters.
There doesn't even have to be a reason. I dislike Wlad Klitschko and honestly I have no real reason too, sure lately he's been holding too much, but I disliked him before that. Just did, no real reason. Not like I wish him real harm, just don't like him as a fighter. Probably never will.
I think you do have to respect Floyd's work ethic, whether its the best of all time or not is totally unknown, but he's supposed to be a very hard worker, I wish Toney had Floyd's work ethic. He's great to watch in the ring, annoying outside of it, but I love to watch him fight.

But if he had that outside the ring as well as inside the ring he would be such a good guy to the sport.....in say 40 years you cant imagine floyd doing anything towards boxing imo i could just imagine him sitting there being an old grumpy grandad! he really does frustate me!

I am the same way with Oscar, I have no reason to hate him but since I was a huge Pernell Whitaker fan my hatred grew for Oscar after that fight, my hatred got so bad that I scored the Tito fight 8 rounds to 4 (even I have to admit that was lunacy) but certain fighter are not liked but PBF has much more than his fare share. There are fighters out there with the same attitude as him (Toney, Judah) that have haters but not as much as Floyd. Only ones to exceed him are (Tarver, Ruiz, Spinks)
-
Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
Pernell won that fight. And I don't really like Oscar either ;D
I do find Floyd annoying outside the ring, even more so than like a Toney cause at least Toney has (or at least used to have) a sense of humor. Floyd is boring and obnoxious. Bad combination. But it'd be hypocritical of me to hate Floyd for his outside the ring attitude since I've been a big Toney fan for a long time. Its the guys like Judah and Tarver, who I find annoying outside the ring and for the most part boring inside the ring that I really dislike. But Floyd inside the ring is incredible to watch so I can deal with his outside the ring act.

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
I stopped hating him. It was I that made the poll. Some one had informed me about the same poll and it had been done on p4p2006 site. I copied the idea from them. The results, basicly were the same as on here. People were picking Baldo.
I personaly dont like some of the shiet he says either.
but
There is no denying he is a great fighter, I have seen him train and he works his azz off like there is no tomorrow. He is a smart fighter who chooses his battles well.
His style is impetuous. His defense is impregnable, and he's just ferocious. He wants your heart. He wants to eat your children. Praise be to Allah!"
I had to throw that in there.
I can't take nothing away from PBF even though he did go around beating fighters Kostya Tszyu had already smoked.

Part of that is just cause he's on top.

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
Awesome fighter but sounds stupid too often and talks too much shat. I don't like hating on someone for no reason but if you have a reason ,then you are entitled to your own opinion, you're not in debt to be nice to a boxer, you can have whatever attitude you want towards him.

no

yeah he really needs to start respecting fighters and respecting other people instead of being a dick head

people will stop hating on Floyd the exact same second nerds stop bashing Microsoft -
When they are no longer at the top of their game.

Watching the interview on ESPN that wasn't what Floyd said, at least not the wayyou just put it

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
An very talented fighter. No questioning his work ethic and skill. But if he keeps talking about wanting to be considered one of the "greatest"...he needs to consistently step up and fight great fighters. Beating guys like Gatti, and even Judah....aint gonna cut it. Being the best means fighting and beating the best. I don't doubt he could do it....but actions speak louder than words.

That's probably the first and only smart statement you have posted since being a member, we know PBF can beat these guy's, but it would be fun to watch so fight them, kudo's for taking on the linear champ, will worry about everybody else later.

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
Mayweather has earned the right to be as cocky and arrogant has he wants. How he acts outside the ring shouldn't even matter. But I guess to some people, it does.

no kidding...............
i wonder how many of these people that are giving pbf crap about unifying the belts are the same ones who ripped him for not doing it in the past

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
The real sorce of dislike for him is his constant attempt to insult real boxing fans intelligence by claiming to be the best without fighting top competition. He always says that if its a fight the fans want, he'll take it. He said that when he asked people who Margarito was they didn't know so he shouldn't have to fight an unknown but I can assure you that if you ask people in PR who Henry Bruseles is, they won't know. That didn't stop him did it? The thing with these phonys is that you gotta pay close attention and you will catch them contradicting themselves repeatedly. Floyd p4p #1 in contradictions

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
At one time I was a fan of Floyd...His mouth got him in trouble...He said one thing I agree with..."If you don't think your the best out there then you shouldn't be in the game no matter what your record is"....I agree with this. He made comments about fighters of the past that were not called for. It is one thing to be confident another to be arrogant....IMO it was his comments about Robinson that hurt him...Fine say I will be as great as Robinson...Or even I feel I am as good as Him....Even I will surpass him...But Floyd said I am better than Ray Robinson ever was...He said it with not conviction but in mockery almost distain....as if the fans had nerve to even think he wasn't the greatest ever....Truth is there are a list of guys better than Floyd from the past....Robinson,,Ray Leonard,,,Ali,,Hank Armstrong just to name a few...Also you need an impressive string of top opponents not a few good ones and dominate performances against pretty good guys...He was having a hard time early with Judah...Augustus tested him to the limit...Castillo was robbed.....Floyd may by time he is done be the greatest but it is a capital MAYBE.....IMO right now Winkey is better P4P....He causes his own problems with the media....His comments on Robinson would be like if Carter said he was a better president than FDR....

:coolclick: Good post, good points, good question...easy answer though.
No.
Floyd will never get rid of the hate. No matter what he does, no matter who he beats, people will downplay the victory & if IF Floyd were to lose...almost everyone on the face of the planet would rejoice as if they had just lost their virginity to the prom queen. ;D

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
I think its jealousy of people... He is so much more talented than anyone else in the sport right now people are just looking for him to fall... same with Roy Jones Jr., but the difference is that Mayweather doesn't coast through rounds... he brings the fight to the opponent, and is very exciting to watch... unfortunately he has two things working against him... His mouth saying he is the best ever(while he very well could be), and second he has too many good opponents right now for him to face them all, and I don't think he has been picking the opponents his fans want him to... alot more people loved him when he fought Corrales and Castillo, but I ask you this did Leonard fight Hearns, Duran, and Hagler all back to back? Hell not he fought chumps too at the top, and far worse ones than Gatti, Mitchell, COrley, judah.

As much as I hate to say it... You're right... I hated him cuz of what he did to gatti... He has skills... Wait, I'm sorry... As much as a hater of Floyd as I am, I think he is the best fighter since Jones... And yes, I am jealous my faves can't catch em... I'll admit but won't hate... I don't like his mouth but I guess you're alowed to have one when you beat everyone's ass you fight ;D ... I will never root for him, but I love to watch em fight... He's clean, fluid... Pretty much perfect. As great a fighter as he is... I hope Baldi takes his head off his shoulders :lickish:

Very nicely said.
Although, I think Sugar should have stayed out of the fighting game after the first Hearns fight.
Ali had a big mouth but he was very charismatic and we all knew he was only having fun with the whole thing. Ali would sell wolf tickets and the people baught it. It was new and different. PBF takes this way too serious when he talks. He get's angry. He should just chill out and let destiny take it's course. Ali was good at marketing himself. PBF just makes people mad. Hopefully he learns some humility before he is humiliated. Pride comes before the fall. Tell me how many fighters do we know that got out of the fight game while they were on top? I don't recall many if any maybe Rocky Marciano. (Some one told me he lost) I read he did not lose and went out on top. What ever. But who else got out while they were kings? Most of them got check-mate and PBF will be no different.
;)
-
Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
Mayweather talks about other fighters, but that's because he is selling tickets leading up to the fight as opposed to being disrespectful. He has matured as a person (for example, no more late night fights at bars, etc). The main problem I have with Floyd is that he ducks fighters. For example, at 140, he did not fight the big boys (Hatton, Kosta, etc.) At 147, he hasn't fought the big boys (though Baldomir is a start). He calls himself pound for pound best, but he needs to fight the big boys. Say what you want about Margarito, but everyone ducks him and that's who Floyd should fight next (or first). I mean, Floyd gave up 8 million and fought Baldomir instead. I'm sure he's not getting that much to fight Baldomir. You know what that means. Floyd should have an easy victory over Baldomir. Though I hope not.

Re: When will the hatred of PBF stop?
he said he believes he is the greatest fighter ever.
He is cocky
And some dont like cocky. Whats wrong with that?
respect his work eithic? absolutely.
Respect him Sure, hes got mad skills.
Like em? No

I half agree.. But really, he very well may be BETTER(not greater) then Sugar Ray Robinson even in his absolute prime(I haven't seen any of him there and I don't think many have seen his fights at welter). You can't really criticize him for having a hard time with Judah... sugar ray Robinson had a hard time with lots of fighters.. Lamotta wasn't a p4p great with any great talents... Also, Augustus pushed Floyd to the limits?? PLEASE, I hate people who think this. I have the fight on my computer, Augustus lands one decent punch in the entire fight, which made Floyd bleed from the nose. Aside from that, it was as onesided as any of Floyds fights, just because Emanuel danced around like an idiot while eating punches doesn't mean he was competitive whatsoever. And sure many think Castillo was robbed... Im not going to bother and look through Sugar Rays record but right on boxrec I remember there were several of his earlier fights where the crowed booed loudly with the decision, and it probably wasn't against fighters as good as Castillo. There's no question Ray Robinson achieved unbelieveable things in the sport, and was vastly talented for his time.. But I think from all footage I have seen, that Floyd WAS p4p a better fighter.. He is more polished, better skilled, far better defensively, I don't even see it being that close tbo.. There are several fighters who were imo p4p better than SRR as well, including Leonard, Duran, and Whittaker. Floyd is seriously underrated on an all time level, just as most current fighters are.. It takes years until they get the respect they deserve.. The only thing that makes it impossible for Floyd to ever achieve the greatness that Robinson did is the way the sport has evolved... Noone fights twice a week anymore against top contenders.. It just can't happen like that.

You have your opinion and I'll have mine but since you mention boxrec look at the level of Robinsons comp compared to Floyds....With over 200 fights yeah there are bound to be some bums but over all....Compare who fought more champions...The quality of champions Floyd beat to that of Robinson...At Welterweight Ray Robinson was the greatest man to ever put on gloves
