Help the Hulk, I got a crappy part time Job dilema!!!

Hey, its like almost 2 AM on a school nite here, and I cant sleep cus I got a part-time crappy job conflict. You are one of the only ones still on here, so would you please mind helpin me out? Okay, I got hired recently at a grocery store last week, haven't started yet, just takin the drug test and been hired. The pay is only min wage, 6.75/hr. Plus I gotta pay a union fee of 180$, but I can pay that at like 10 buks a month. The job duties are gettin carts, cleanin store, baggin shat, etc. But no stocking. Plus you get an hour for lunch, which is too much, I only need a half hour. Okay, just today after bein hired officially, a clothin store calls that I also applied at, Mervyns. And its hard to get a job there, and I know it will be an easy ass job, and they want to set up an interview. But I already agreed to work at grocery store, WTF should I do man? Should I quit the grocery store b4 I even start, to take the chance on the interview of probably workn at Mervyns or ignore Mervyns and just work at the grocery store? Help a fellow boxing nerd out man! ;D ???

Damnit. It's too late I guess for anyone to be on here to help my dum ass out. Ah well. I'll probably just stick with the grocery store job, but who knows. I got till tomorrow afternoon to decide. It's 2:20 AM and I gotta get up at 8:20 or so, so I should be headin to bed. Thanks in advance to all who respond to this thread. And fuk you to all who laugh at it, damnit this is a tougher decision than you think. Anyhow, goodnight. ;D

Erm...why don;t you fake illness and attend the interview at mervyns?? Then if they offer you the job quit the grocery store.

I can really see the Dilema here... ::**;)

Get the interveiw scheduled on a school day and knock off... take it and if they agree to hire you leave the other job... if they pick some one else your old job is still safe...

I really can't see the problem you're having here...

What exactly is tough about it? you scared of having to be assertive and say 'I quit' if you get the better job or something? Scared of either bunking off school or asking for the lesson off? Scared of asking the clothes shop if they can change the interveiw to an hour that suits you?

What's the problem? ;)

Do you have to pay the union fee, even if you don't want to be in the union? $180 is a lot !!

Ask Mervyn's if you can schedule the appointment for another time because of a conflict most places dont have a problem with it.

That's why Job application forms have a bit which says 'Notice required by employer'.

Loads of people Job seek whilst still in work. It's more secure.

One Employer doesn't need to know and the other doesn't care, it makes you seem more appealing if you are already employed.

That is a very good point! If you call them up and tell them you need to reschedule then it makes it seem like you wont skip out on them on a moments notice. Makes you seem more mature. I use to interview and hire people and it was never a problem to reschedule an interview with enough notice.

I quit the Grocery store, went to the Mervyns interview....and got the job. So thats the end of it. I make a bit more, better hours, better job, no 180 bucks for BS union, and 20% off anything in the Mervyns store. I appreciate all your input folks. And yes AdamGB, I was dreading quitting the grocery store kinda, but it was no big deal. Just told em I found a better opportunity and had to take it. Anyway, dilema SOLVED. ;D

Next time wait till you get the other job first. :) if you hadn't gotten it the Grocery store wouldn't of had you back... ;)

You wanna know a problem, ive got HUGE yr 12 end of yr exams comin up in two weeks and ive been rostered on at work for 28 hours this week and 25 hours next week...no study at all. And they bitch everytime someone asks for time off lol ;D

LOL yeah. But some jobs look easy and arent. Like i work on checkouts at woolworths and man that looks easy BUT the amount of abuse you take in a day and remembering codes, shelf stacking is heaps easier. Everyone dreads checkouts coz you have to work, you cant walk around and bludge...could be why i hate it ;D

Working checkouts suck big time. No matter where something goes bad for the customer you get the blunt of it. Like there is a thing you can do about it at the checkout.

Yeah, well being one of the only guys on a checkouts....gotta lead by example lol so when i get shit from customers i just either ignore them or give them a smart arse comment back ;D

go to the interview at the other job and see what they are paying....it is only a McJob so why the hell not?...keep your options open....
