We welcome the decision of the IBF to leave Edison Miranda as Nr.1 and Arthur Abraham is looking forward to meeting Miranda in the ring again in the Summer of 2007.Abraham will be making a Voluntary defense in the Spring.
We would herewith like to refer to the Statement from the Miranda Camp with regard to the Edison Miranda against Arthur Abraham World Title Fight.
That Statement is full of lies, irregularities and above all sensationalism. It is stated that Abraham was allowed to continue the fight despite a broken jaw, thus putting his life in danger. They also allege a "crime" was being committed. This is a ridiculous statement.
Arthur boxed with a broken jaw from the 4th round onwards. This is not the first time that a boxer has fought with a broken jaw (a notable example was Muhammad Ali in his fight against Ken Norton).It is a very painful experience but certainly not a life endangering nor career threatening one. .Arthur showed immense courage to finish and win the fight. His trainer Uli Wegner always had the situation under control and would have stopped the fight if there had been any danger or heavy punishment. In fact it was Miranda who was wobbled on several occasions and with all probability an Arthur Abraham without this handicap would have stopped Miranda.
The Miranda Camp has heavily criticized the referee Randy Newman (USA).We feel quite the opposite that Randy was very soft with Miranda. In the first 7 Rounds, until he warned Miranda for low blows, Miranda hit Abraham low on 18 occasions and after the warning only another 6 times up to round 12. .If the referee had issued a warning earlier matters might have developed differently. .Miranda used his head on 11 occasions and if Team Miranda feels that the headbutt in the 5th round was not intentional they must be living on a different planet. In addition he punched after the bell rang for the 2nd round and Abraham retaliated.
In our opinion and that of many spectators and journalists at ringside Miranda was extremely lucky not to be disqualified.
Team Miranda accused Promoter Wilfried Sauerland of overruling the fighter, the doctor and the referee to continue the fight. Sauerland had no part in that decision. In fact he never left his seat in complete contrast to the Miranda Promotor and Manager who stormed acrossed the ring and insulted the doctor and referee and discussed with the IBF Supervisor. They subsquently had to be escorted back to their seats by Security.
Arthur Abraham and most members of the Sauerland team are in Chicago this week for the Valuev vs. Monte Barrett fight and are open to discussions with the American Media

Wow... glad to see their statement was so much more truthful and accurate ::** They are each making up fairy tales... Miranda hit him low 18 TIMES!?! before being warned... THat is horeshit. I don't think lowblows were ever a real problem in the fight. The one headbutt was definetly intentional, that much is true.. But both camps are full of shit in their accounts, imo.

Abraham is more full of it. Saying that he was some sort of warrior after the fight and would never quit because Miranda dissed him at the press conference before hand. But now its pretty obvious that he stopped wanting to fight aftert he 5th and Miranda should have gotten the TKO. When they ask you if you can fight and you say "No" Thats the end of story..the ref isn't supposed to give you an "Are you sure? Lets go to the scorecards.. The guy in the crowd tells you to fight and he has the final say." ::**

For some reason I believe more of what Miranda's camp is saying than what Abraham's is. At least Miranda's camp can back themselves up with the video of the fight, dont think Abraham can.

Actually...I think that everyone needs to rewatch the fight.
There was a lot more shady shit going on with Miranda's side of the fight than Abrahams.

At least 18 low blows is possible, remember when James Toney's camp said that Rahman punched him illegally in the kidneys over 300 times, which was about 4/5ths of Rahman's total punch count for the fight ::**

The 5th round has easily overshadowed anything else that went on in the fight. As far as Miranda landing on the belt line it depends on how high up Abraham's trunks and protector where. I have heard some refs call the middle of the belt line legal because of a fighters trunks being high (I need to rewatch the refs instructions). I think that calling a punch on the belt line low is ticky tacky at best, as good as these guys are they cant pinpoint exactly where the punch is going to land. I have always felt that a quality low blow is below the belt line, on the belt line is close (worth a warning) but not a point deduction, imo.

De la Hoya is a big trunk hiker upper....his trunks are right under his armpits....doesn't mean if you crack him under the actual belt it's a foul.
Abraham is shit....I don't like him and I never will...yeah he showed some heart in staying with the fight when his jaw was busted but the guy is an arrogant little shmuck and I hope he gets knocked the fuck out real soon

He showed a lot more heart than the Klits have...he made it through the fight with a broken jaw. He didn't quit when the tuff got broken.

In the end...with this fight...I never saw more than 10 shots that I actually considered low or wondered about.

CMM explained it better than I did. In general the trunks at worn at the waist (Oscar seems to be the exception) that would put the belt line right at the belly button or just below. Sorry my first explanation wasnt very clear, I will try to be better about that.

I would have to agree with the majority of you guys here,in that Abrahams' camp is full of nonsense,more so than Miranda's camp. I also believe that Abraham haD NOOOOOO intention of continuing,look at hia face,his body language when the ref said he wanted to stop it,he didn't look adamant or anything. HIS CORNER wanted it to continue! I think Miranda should have had it there. I was dissappointed that Edison didn't do more but I still think he won. He was the effective agressor,and I'd love to see punch stats for the fight.
