Corrales 5 pounds over!
Chico loses WBC lightweight title on the scale
By Rick Guzman
UPDATE: Corrales stripped naked and weighed in again at 139.5 lbs. He now has two hours to lose two pounds, the maximum allowed by the Nevada Commission, which will result in Corrales losing his WBC championship on the scale.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WBC lightweight champion Diego Corrales has weighed in five pounds over the lightweight limit. Joel Casamayor weighed in at the division limit of 135 on the first try.

he is stupid, he is a disgrace to boxing
-
Re: OMG!!! After playing innocent and bashing Castillo CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
Casamayor sounds like he wanted to take Corrales' head off too
http://www.boxingtalk.com/pag/article9908.html
And Corrales comes in at 140 ::**
I think back to all that sympathy he got for the third Castillo fight and everything else and etc etc that went on and all the talk and the "Me and Castillo WERE friends and now I cant respect what he did" and things like that and then he goes and does the same thing. I hope SHO chews a hole in him too like they did to Castillo and lets see what fair is, because if they try to give Corrales an excuse..
-
Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
I read on skysports he's moving up to welterweight to fight for hattons vacated belt. I guess he just wanted to avoid fighting this one
-
Re: OMG!!! After playing innocent and bashing Castillo CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS O
oh he in trouble... unless casamayor's camp allows him to fight... which they might not.... two hours?
its not till tomoro night?? think he could loose that if he worked his ass off make 136 within a pound of the limit! still a disgrace that he could diss jlc and then not make weight... so now one he has no genuine excuse not to have the rubber match with castillo poss at 140? (prob best for both of them)
and plus if he didnt make wieght he must jus not have trained properly... meaning he in trouble cos casamayor has had his number twice now man ... its too close never mind not bein prepared... thats if he does fight and doesnt get fined and suspended maybe worse...
u know if there any chance of it bieng a mistake on the scales?
they wieghed roy jones in at 192 for his fight against ruiz when he was around 201!!...? maybe hope the fight still happens
peace

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
Fer feck's sake, are boxers just slightly retarded or what? After seeing Castillo and the slating that he received after the last weigh-in, how can he expect to turn up and not be roundly criticised for turning up on the scales at that weight. He's a darn eejit, and definitely deserves to be stripped of the weight. I assume if Casamayor wins he still gets the strap?
-
Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
The following is from Pound4Pound.com
Corrales Weighs 140! 5 LB's Over!
Chico Stripped! Who's Sorry Now!
Pound4Pound.com
Here’s what we know, Diego actually weighed in at 139.5, he has 2 hours to lose the weight, but, since Nevada Boxing Commission rules state a fighter can lose only 2 pounds maximum for health related issues, that means Diego will only be allowed to get down to 137.5.
That means.....you guessed it, Corrales will be stripped!
Here’s something else we do know, considering everything he has been through and the stance he took, Diego ought to be ashamed of himself!
End.
=================================================
I say..
I personally did not hate on Castillo for not making weight twice and I am not going to sit here and demonize Corrales. All I can say is oh well, I would like to hear John Goosehead's take on this, because if I recall, he was very critical of Castillo.
Castillo and Corrales should fight each other at what ever weight they want to come in at. They owe the public a fight, this we know. Make it happen. ;)

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
so u recon they goin crazy trying to find a replacement contender to fight for the vacated title?
cos thats alot of money down the pan bro!!
i think one thing will happen .... when corrales is allowed to fight again... at least fact is theres not a title tying him down to the lightwieght division so he can pick a fight from two or so divisions??
not that he deffo had to stay for the title but its jus picking his spots while he had it.. but now he doesnt
peace

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
First off, this can't be any surprise to him or his camp, that's what pissed me off about Castillo, as much as they weigh fighters, as much as they keep track of the weight, as much experience as they have making weight, to come in that much over is just ridiculous.

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
What makes me mad was Corrales saying on air that time for the third fight that didnt happen.
"Well he could have at least called me! That would have been the respectful thing to do. He could have called me and said "I cant make 135 anymore, lets try to do it at 137 or something" because fighters drain themselves to make weight, and it was disrespectful of him to allow me to get myself to 135 the morning of the fight knowing he was overweight."
Or something like that. And now..

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
somebody clear this up for me, isn't Chico still in the middle of suing Castillo ???
I thought I heard he was suing him but I don't know if it ever happened or if its still going on. If it still hasn't been resolved, then the idea of him coming in five pounds overweight for a fight while he's suing another guy for coming in 5 pounds overweight is just too funny ;D

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
fights still on
www.fightnews.com
Rick Guzman
Looks like the fight between Diego Corrales and Jorge Casamayor will go on. If Casamayor wins, he claims the WBC lightweight title outright. If Corrales (who forfeit the title on the scale) wins, the belt remains vacant, however Casamayor would be entitled to an immediate fight with WBC interim titlist David Diaz, even if he loses. There will be a second weigh-in Saturday at noon and neither can weigh over 147 lbs. Corrales will be fined $200,000 bu the Nevada Commission, $100,000 of which will go to Casamayor. There are still undisclosed issues ($$) between the camps, but as of now we have a fight.

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
yes there is def irony in this one having chico been the victim twice from castillllo. but i think its pretty hilarious how they are writing over and over again: DIEGO WAS STRIPPED COMPLETELY NAKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lolololol:

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
This is getting out of hand, it's RRREEEE-DEE-CULOUS!!!!
The Athletic Commissions need to get thougher on these regulations about weight, I would suggest a years ban from Boxing that'll do the job. ;)

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
This is great! ;D After talkin so much shat bout Castillo, Corrales does the exact same thing in his next fight. Hilarious! ;D I like Corrales, but maybe now he'll come off his high horse about the whole Castillo situation, maybe Showtime will too. This reminds me of Jesse James Leija. After he got screwed against Camacho Jr., after junior quit on a cut, was screaming "I've been fighting for 15 years, and I've been cut, and I fight through it, I don't quit". Then in his very next fight against Micky Ward, he gets cut, and quits. Or least allows it to be stopped like Camacho jr. did. ;D

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
I was picking Casamayor to win by decision before the weigh in, but now I think he KO's Corrales. Corrales shouldn't be fighting at 135 anyway, I would have been happy to see them fight at 140. At least Casamayor ain't a little b*tch & is willing to fight unlike Corrales was in the 3rd with Castillo. Does Corrales know he can't beat Casamayor & tried to sobbatage the fight? To bad for him that Casamayor ain't gonna let him get out like that.

yeah..he's basically telling Corrales "no matter what you weigh, I'm wuppin your ass" ....

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!

Corrales comments on weight!
"I pretty much killed myself to be here"
"I grabbed Casamayor’s hand after the weigh-in and apologized," said Diego Corrales after failing to make the 135lb lightweight limit, thus forfeiting his WBC title on the scale. "It’s not something I tried to do. I’ve been trying so hard to drop the weight, I was almost at the point of passing out this morning. Honestly, I’m responsible for my actions. I believe if you make a mistake, you should be punished. I made a mistake and should be punished. When I was at the 147 area a few weeks ago, I knew it might be tough to get down. I got down a bit and thought I might get there, but I just couldn’t crack 142 pounds. Every day, I trained, ate salad and still weighed 142 pounds. I was actually afraid I was going to pass out today – I worked out three times with no food or water. I just got done working out for two hours and only lost half a pound. That pretty much sums it up. I pretty much killed myself to be here at this fight." Corrales' trainer Joe Goossen added, "Monday was his last meal and it was a little bit of tuna and small salad. He’s been sucking on ice chips since."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corrales had to drain weight last time to make 135, so he ballooned up to I think 149. Now if he's been draining himself as bad as he says then it might be hard to make 147 tomorrow.

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
Maybe fighters are just straining their bodies too hard to try and make an unrealistic weight. Fighters get pushed into having to starve themselves due to poor management, pressure to hold belts, and of course: no becoming a fatass like hatton.
All the things corrales put castillo through.. I felt BAD for castillo how everyone jumped on him and diego burned him and took him to court. Not to say he shouldnt have been screwed, castillo had it coming, but now corrales gotta feel that!

I'm sorry, I dont think my post made any sense.
That's because i'm drunk..
On weed. And yayo. And $2.50 margaritas. Chain smoking cigs tonight and waking my ass up early to go running tomorrow.
But I am sorry that that post didnt make any sense.

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
They better ban Corrales. When Castillo was waiting for his hearing I said he should only be fined. But now that Corrales has done the same he better get the same punishment. At least Casamayor is willing to fight, I hope he knocks Corrales' a** out for being a chump!

Ok guys, corrales came in over and your all saying how he said it was bad of castillo well are you guys forgetting castillo didnt do it once...HE DID IT TWICE! Fighters come in overweight occasionally, it happens...but castillo did it twice! So dont go acting like corrales has done the same thing castillo did. It was obvious both time castillo had no intention on coming in on weight. And corrales fought castillo the first time he was over weight so it aint the same kind of situation.

I gotta agree with some of this but disagree with other parts
Yes, this does not make Castillo any better, he did it twice so if anything he's worse. Just because Chico's a hypocrite doesn't mean he's worse than Castillo is as far as weight goes, cause Castillo did come in over twice.
But, fighters come in overweight occasionally? Chico came in FIVE pounds overweight. That's not just a little overweight. Both he and Castillo are absolutely ridiculous for coming in that much overweight. That's not a little overweight.
Its not obvious that Castillo didn't even try to make weight, I was suspicious that he may have done that for the second fight but its not obvious. But if he did though, doesn't Corrales have to be under some kind of scrutiny too? I mean, 5 pounds overweight, either he's unprofessional, just has way outgrown the weight, or he didn't try, same for Castillo.
I wanna see what Chico comes in at for the weighin tomorrow. If he's really been draining himself, and hasn't eaten since Monday then he's gonna have a tough time rehydrating and eating without going above 147, or without just being weak as hell.
-
Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
Actually there is no excuse for coming in heavy at this level and payday , its the management / trainers job to see the fighter comes in correct. A fighter should be at his target weight a week before the fight and maintain that weight proper until fight time . . really no excuse for this .

Re: CORRALES COMES IN 5 LBS OVER!
I am REALLY dissappointed in Corrales especially considering that he has been at the end of a similar decision with Castillo so he should understand the importance of making weight. Hopefully this is his last fight at 135. As for Cas,I feel for him because he really has no choice, this is his last shot at the big time,he had no other viable oppertunity so he has to take the fight.
The only difference is that I think Castillo knew he was not going to make weight and the second time,he just wanted to KO Chico regardless of the weight whereas I'd find it hard to believe that Diego would be the same. I'm dissappointed in Goossen too!

Good point well made. Casamayor doesn't have a choice he has to go in there and try and win even with a four pound difference at the weigh in. It's all well and good dealing with that at SMW or LH, but 4lbs at the lighter weights is a damn big adantage, as we saw last time out when Corrales got rocked big time. Maybe he thought he deserved the same advantage, or he saw he wasn't going to make the weight, and decided to take what money he could anyway.

Not once did Castillo come in 140. And then weigh in again at 139. This is much worse because all the heat Corrales gave and all the sympathy he got and how much he milked it, only to come in at 140 for his NEXT fight and contradict everything he said. That is much worse then what Castillo did.
Castillo never said "He could have called me when he came in overweight to let me know he couldn't make 135 anymore.. call me and say you can make 137 or something just so we didn't both drain ourselves or so that I wouldn't drain myself when he didnt intend to, that would have been the most respectful thing to do." Corrales said that(or something like that) And yet here he is saying that he was 147 two weeks before the fight and etc and not once did he think to make that announcement or to call Casamayor and tell him that. Not once.
That is what makes this much worse cause it's like the national spokesman against the N.R.A. decides to go on a killing spree and afterwards say "Guns are still wrong."

I think this last quote is a little over the top, he let himself down sure but I'm certain nobody feels worse both physically and mentally right now than Corrales.
As Snakey said Castillo did it twice to Corrales.
It does seem wrong to me however that fighters are even allowed to fight at a weight that is clearly well below their normal bodyweight.
I'm amazed that in todays world where safety is a priority that it's not illegal for a man with a clear size advantage exploiting the weigh ins to fight somebody naturally smaller than them. It's not just Corrales pretty much every fighter in the lower divisions is guilty of it.
I think the weigh in should be on the day of the world putting a stop to all this nonsense once and for all.
By the way Jorge Barrios failed to make weight against Guzman and was consequently stripped last month and I don't remember a single person criticisng him at all.
Even Lampley and all said he had had real weight problems before the fight and that it might have taken it's toll on him.
But when Castillo and now Coralles do it, they are seen to be gaining an advantage ???
Boxing confuses me sometimes :P
