I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Quite frankly I'm disgusted.  Not at what Byrd or Ibeabuchi did.  It was a good fight.  But the commentating. They called every miss from Ibeabuchi a land, and never even acknowledged when Byrd would flurry off of Ibeabuchi's head and body.  And how Harold can give any round to Ibeabuchi before the knockdown I don't know how.   I give a lot of credit to Byrd for getting up from the knockdown and despite being out on his feet kept trying to fight.  But the fact that Byrd wasn't even hit for the second knockdown, and the fact that he wasn't hit at after he got up and before the stoppage(watch the last replay) I think that HBO and the whole situation around it was trying to make Ike their new Tyson, and their new savior of the Heavyweight division.  And quite frankly and in my opinion he was getting outboxed BADLY by Chris Byrd before that one shot.  You can watch it here and be the judge.

Whats your opinion after watching that?  I'm not dissing Ibeabuchi or Byrd, I'm dissing HBO.

Yes, I saw them change their opinion in the 12th round from Winky fighting a smart fight and then before the round closes saying that Winky was giving away the round.

Ha did you notice how later on in the fight Lampley started commenting on how well Jermain was blocking shots ;D
A new low considering every right hand that hit Winky's gloves was a "big right hand."

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
I didnt watch it all mthe way through, quite frankly I thought it was rubbish, how Ike gets all the attention he does is beyond me, he looked slow and foolish quite like peter against Toney, so what, big deal, the guy was nothing special ???

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
this fight was at the TACOMA DOME huh?

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
i think Ike is in Jail for assault on the hooker. Is in Jail now and has changed his name from i be a buchi to ...I be a Bitch She

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
I was expecting more replies since everybody talks about Ike
-
Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
I wasn't sold on Ike....sure he showed power vs Byrd and a chin vs Tua but he NEVER had to box anyone. I honestly think Lewis would have beaten him and Holyfield too
And IMO Byrd frustrated Ike to the point he went swinging for the fences and it paid off for him

Honestly I think its cause you are kinda off on your analysis....... You are awfully crtitical of Ike and scrutinize him like he was a 10 year pro or a fake alphaet title holder(valuev, maskaev) Ike never relized his potential and was very raw The Hype was VERY REAL he wasn't a product of a Promoter like (Valuev, Antonio Margarito etc.)...He earned his rep and was the complete package..
Speed
Power
Excellent Footwork
unreal stamina
Ring Smarts
Excellent defense
Unbeliavable punch output
Chris Byrd was an awsome southpaw and a Giant killer in the Heavyweight division his elusiveness speed and skills and concrete chin made a fool out of the Majority of the Heavyweights....Besides Wlad who shit on Chris Byrd like Ike did??? NO ONE did Byrd was a proven world class fighter
Ike hunted Byrd in that fight and pressured him like no one could do up to that point and few to none did after that fight.....Ike showed exceptional handspeed and just flat out took Chris's head off to the point he was drooling on himself.....He was so out of it he was argueing to the ref that it wasnt a knock down....ARE YOU SHITTEN ME??? he damn near decapitated him and than instead of fighting he was still argueing with the ref after the ref let him continue...The far away look in his eyes was worse than Meldrik Taylor's so it was waved off Mercifully....
Ike is a looney sum bitch out of the ring but in the ring he was a force and a freak of Nature

Byrd frustrated everybody Lyle.....(Except Wlad) ;) Thats how the little man survived that long I mean he beats Tua the heir apparent at the time and the slicker than grease Byrd and the young man gets no love Huh?
Just cause you dont like him outside the ring dosent mean he cant get his props...

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Lampley always uses lots of adjectives when describing the HBO fighers punches. Blistering, punishing, etc...
He also sometimes calls a punch for the wrong guy, and attributes it to the other.

I get what you're saying. And that would be a great point. But if you noticed in the post, my beef wasn't with Ike ;)
If you want me to talk about Ike here it is, everyone makes it seem like Ike was some world beater that would have dominated the Heavyweight division and everything in it. And he isn't. he didn't win one round against Byrd there. And sure he pressured him but it wasn't effective aggressiveness until he landed that haymaker. And thats what annoys me.
But like I told you I wasn't dissing Ike. I was dissing HBO who was treating Ike like he was Oscar or something, calling every miss a hit and things like that. I'm not critical of Ike, I'm critical that the HBO announcers should quit being so got damned bias. THAT is what disgusted me.
re-read my first post please, take a second to listen who you think this record is dissin ;)

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
At that point in time a match with Tyson would have been GREAT for either Byrd or Ibeabuchi....not some much for Mike though
I like Byrd...he's a good guy
I don't get a stiffy everytime Ibeabuchi's name is brought up like SOME posters. He had his skills but no questions were EVER answered about him.
Chin he showed it vs Tua....I'll pass him on that
Stamina he showed it vs Tua.....he passes again
Power he showed it vs Byrd...good job
But he was 20 (15 KO's)-0-0.....how much can you tell from someone who only has 20 fights and only fought 2 well known opponents that were limited in style one way or another. 1 had no power the other had nothing but power......now what if a Lewis, Holyfield, or someone else fought him???
Everytime you talk about Ibeabuchi it's always about 2 fights he had

Interesting :headscratch: .... Lets see he fought Tua in a phone booth for a better part of the whole fight so he showed inside fighting prowess....Then he stalked Chris Byrd(The EXPERIENCED, slick and fast Boxer) and pinned him on the ropes and threw punches..HMMMMM :headscratch: Well if thats not how you take out a Slick and extremely mobile Boxer...How do you??? Ike used his strength to exploit Byrds weakness, well again thats what Winnings all about in anysport....If you want to debate that I'll listen...

Yeah Ike used his strength, that was expected....he was frustrated with Byrd though, you don't seem to think so, why?
He fought Tua hard, that's great but how would he deal with someone that had power outboxing him? LEWIS. How would he deal with someone just as big and strong as him tying him up and frustrating him as well as headbutting him? HOLYFIELD. How would he deal with someone he couldn't KO? MERCER, MCCALL.
There is only so much you can tell about Ike in these fights....I mean need I remind you of other Nigerian "powerhouses" like David Izon and Friday Ahunaya?

My bad your right sir Cool Click for your Trouble....Yea I like watching the fights at MY favorite Irish pub since its so loud you cant hear the volume or commentators....They do F things up and dramatize...
Back to Ike not winning anyrounds up to that point.....
Byrd is an excellent boxer thats all he is not a puncher...Take that away and he's Fwocked royally Ike wasnt going to outbox Byrd period....so he adjusted and walked him down and BOOM!!!!! Ike wasnt one dimensional to the point were he was gonna get stung bt Byrd allnite...He simply imposed his size and will on Byrd and finally grinded him down on the ropes.....
It happens all the time Classic case of a Boxer vs Power Puncher you aint gonna win by playing to your opponents strength.....
-
Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Commentators are useless now that you don't have to listen to the action on the radio.
I do like the antics of George Foreman and the way Manny Steward pronounces stuff "Elite" becomes "E-LIGHT"..."Lyakhovich" becomes "Lack-O-Vich" and "Maskaev" becomes "MaskOV"....hahaha I love Manny he's cool

I agree Lyle BUT...Ike was a baby by boxing standards
and PunchStats had Ike landing 91 of 289- 31% punches to 84 of 208-40% for Byrd. So wasnt exactly flailing in th wind all that much so

Actually bro Havent had a chance...I'm not Bullshiteing you ;) I am a man of my word and will watch it again...Had alot going on today and just started to dig up the fight and havent been able to link it up.... :-\ but I will PM Ice ColdBoxing and see if he can get me another link.... SO sit tight and I will work on it.....Brutha ;)

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Just watched it. :coolclick: the link works just fine ???
Love how slick Byrd used to be and how powerful Ike was. if Byrd had Ike's power he never would have lost.
-
Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
I dont know how many times he hit Byrd.....I can tell you he sure as hell missed alot though, but thats typical against someone as elusive as Byrd....Though Byrd wasn't landing all that flush either and Ike had good movement(especially head) and footwork...and the 2nd KD I agree not a punch..Just Byrd had no legs left
I watched the fight with no Volume and you could still get a sense that Byrd was gonna get KO'd eventually, he wasnt landing effectivelly or hard enough to deter Ike and it was just a matter of time before he got crushed.....
So I couldnt count the punches but I think it had to be close to what the compu-box scored..Ike was getting him on the ropes and ripping the body....

yeah, but the stoppage barrage and on the replay it didnt look like Ike was hitting Byrd. granted Chris may have been knocked silly but he was still defending himself imo.

Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Byrd is doing the right thing by going down in weight. He belongs in either cruiser of LHW. I hope he beats Bell.
-
Re: I just watched the Ibeabuchi vs. Chris Byrd fight and
Pretty cut n dry fight. Ike Walking his man down and unleashing his punches .I thought It was a clear beat down my friend.
Curtis Coats is a great trainer. He told Ike to hit everything" the arms" the chest " whatever he could touch and he did. I always hated Byrds style that (Defense First) type of style bores me to death ! I remember watching that fight with big grin on my face. as Byrd could run but not hide. I will give him credit he did try and fight when he had no other options. but to no avail. as for Merchants, he has always been an asshole , so that nothing new. O0 :coolclick: for topic !
