The most skilled fighters
Think I may have done something along these lines earlier but a bunch of posts have been wiped out so I'm not sure
When I say skills I don't mean natural athletic ability (pure speed, pure power, etc.), I mean defense, slipping punches, timing, skilled punches (how straight you throw them, technical punches), countering, etc.
I'll go with
Floyd
Toney
Hopkins (assuming he's still fighting)
JMM
Calderon
Barrera-could be a bit better defensively maybe
Guzman if he'd tighten up his punches, can be a bit wild at times
If I've forgotten somebody, well that's the point, give me some names

Re: The most skilled fighters
Mayweather
Wright
Casamayor
Calderon

Re: The most skilled fighters
Worthy mention for me:
DLH
Parra
Calzaghe
I just saw you edited my list, but Casamayor has great skills IMO
-
Re: The most skilled fighters
Casamayor deserves a mention, not sure he's in my top shelf list but he's very skilled
Parra's also very skilled, only seen him twice, wish I could see more.
Up and comers that I think are skilled: Quintana, Lamont Peterson, Jorge Linares
Also Martin Castillo's pretty skilled, wish I could see what happened in his last fight

Re: The most skilled fighters
PBF is the best. He will be the best in the business for many years to come. The competition is very weak in comparison. I am surprised he is not bored. If I was as great as PBF, I would be fighting like 8 times a year.

I was gonna put both Quintana & Castillo but Quintana got dropped by Julio but is still very slick & Castillo gets hit a little to much for my liking.
Haven't seen a lot of Kyowa but what I've seen impressed me!

I haven't seen Kyowa at all, not a second of a round, sounds like a good fighter though.

Re: The most skilled fighters
I think Pernell Whitaker was pretty skilled. Some of what sweetpea did defensively still leaves me in awe.

Definitely, I just meant current fighters though, if not I would have definitely included him

I'll adimt Trinidad did great with what he had, but his skill level technically was severly lacking... although you could add John Ruiz as he was the most skilled clincher I ever saw!

Yeah Gamo JMM is technically sound but I saw him get clean 3 times by Pacquiao in that 1st round. Don't know if he was just cold or what but he sure was open!

Re: The most skilled fighters
I think he was just cold bro and he did win most of the other rounds!! Add EM and MAB to my list, both warriors, have boxing skills and in their primes, were amazing!

Re: The most skilled fighters
Id say Tyson
Although he was a run in and kill man, the way he rolled , slipped and countered was so textbook perfect alot of the time it was beautiful to watch.
If i was teaching someone to box and came to slipping, bobbing weaving and rolling id show tyson.

Judah needs to be on the list for "skill"
it's just mentality he's lacking.

That's the main component of skill.

If I made a list of guys who are naturally the most athletically talented Judah would be on there

I saw the first Spinks bout and he was outboxed despite having strong points in the fight, same thing with PBF

Re: The most skilled fighters
I agree with most suggestions but what about Zab Judah?
I think he has outstanding skills regarding speed and accuracy and we all saw it in the first 4 rounds of his fight wirh PBF (untill he was mentally broken again)
I just thought he deserved a mention.

I don't know much about Segura, what does he fight at, 112?
And D-Hop is a promising prospect

Yeah! he fights at 112, I've seen him fight 3 times he smart and patient though I'm sure theres others out there these are the ones that came to mind.
D-Hop has very good lateral movements and you can tell hes seen/studies B-Hop his movements in the ring are very similar to B-hops

He didn't break, Mayweather figured him out.

Re: The most skilled fighters
I don't see why Judah would be on this list at all. True, he has speed. With speed comes accuracy, naturally. But his jab is terrible. Most boxers with skill have very good jabs and Judah's jab is one he just puts out there with no effectiveness whatsoever. Skilled boxers do a good job of avoiding power shots. Judah gets hit with power shots and of course, his chin is glass. Skilled boxers adjust during fights as Mayweather did against Judah after the fourth round and as Collazo did against Hatton after the first round, and as Quintana did against Julio after the first round. Judah does not have the ability to adjust. Judah should not even be mentioned in this discussion, definitely not in the last four years.

I agree, seems like most people on this forum are saying it was more of Judah losing the fight rather than saying it was Floyd who won it, it was a major ass whoppin and PBF deserves the credit for a great fight, many people mention Judah as one of the most skilled fighters in the world and then turn around and say who has PBF fought. That makes no sense to me.
