Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
OK, so Kessler destroys Beyer to become a unified champ at 168 and then asks to fight Calzaghe, only Joe has now set his sights on Bernard Hopkins, who is over 40, retired and has hinted that he may want to fight heavyweight??
Precisley when was the Welshman hit so hard that he became a F****** moron?? Kessler is money in the bank, and is a far easier fight than a 50yr old Hopkins would be... Someone help Joe get a clue.
All this is according to www.fightnews.com by the way...
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
The only reason to fight a semi retired Hopkins over Kessler is the cash cow...
I agree, Greig a Kessler fight would satisfy me more than any other fight out there...
To call him a fucking idiot is perhaps a little harsh though! ;D
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
It's ok mate, I'm far far away ;D
Seriously, the guy makes no sense to me at all.
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
He'd make more money fighting Kessler in a car park in Europe than he would fighting Hopkins at Madison Square Garden...
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Idiot is to much. Scared bitch is more like it
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
No way... Kessler is big and strong, but he's clumsy - I know I can beat him. Ooops, quoting Rocky 4 again.
Seriously Calzaghe is the best in his division by far I think, that's what makes his decision all the more baffling.

Fighting Kessler makes way more sense to me. It would unify all of the belts at SMM and to bring the belts together in this day and age is something special. You are right, the fight would be huge on its own merits. Kessler has now made a statement and Joe would be wanting to prove a point after an off day...
Fighting Hopkins at this stage is pointless. I love Hopkins, but lets face it he is semi retired. He also seems to have bulked up somewhat. Would the fight be at light heavyweight??
To be honest I think if Hopkins does come back it will only be against Maskaev. A very carefully seleced opponent. I dont see Hopkins getting in the ring with Calzaghe at all. Negotiations will invariably fail as they have done before...
Yep, Kessler is the only fight that makes any sense to me, why turn up the opportunity to become single unified champion?? I think it would be a real challenge too....

Kessler is just the best supermiddleweight out there.. Calzaghe must be shittin his pants when he watch the Beyer fight the great dane in action

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Nah Calzaghe could beat Kessler pretty easily. Calzaghe does best against the upright come forward boxers. Kessler is decent enough but he hasn't been in a brawl and can't fight at 100 mph - I don't think he's experienced enough at the top either.
Calzaghe looks bad against the Salem's and Bika's of this world. Fighters not in the top 5 but could easily pull of an upset due to their style of fighting.

What baffles you so much just might turn out to be a very good reason.
Except - if Calzaghe follows through on this we'll never know for sure.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...

Thats possibly the most absurd comment I've ever heard on this forum.
Here's a :coolclick: for making me laugh.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Man, come on, when a fighter is talking to the cameras after a fight, he is just picking out names almost off the top of his head. The reason he was mentioning Hopkins was because this wasa joint broadcast with HBO, and as he tries to boost his profile stateside, the name Hopkins carries a lot more weight than Kessler. At the end of the day, I don't see a fight with Hopkins happening, but I can definitely see a Kessler fight come off, and I believe that is what will happen. And then come the summer, he'll beat a severely arthritic Hopkins by pushing his wheelchair over ;)

I've seen Kessler fight Beyer, Lucas and Mundine.
I would have to say judging from those three fights Calzaghe would have the hardest fight of his career against Kessler.
Kessler is a skilled fighter. Can you imagine Calzaghe wanting to go over to Australia to face Anthony Mundine? Beyer has a record of being hurt and knocked down but still I don't think anybody expected him to go in 3.
Kessler is a great fighter, probably a tougher fight than Hopkins but for less money and worldwide acclaim.
I would also love to see this fight made, as then we would have the only true undisputed world champion in boxing right now.
But it makes more sense from Calzaghe's point of view to look to Jones and Hopkins.
If they don't come off then he may fight Kessler, but I'm fairly certain it will have to take place at the MEN for Calzaghe to consider it.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
The problem with Joe is that he doesn't like to be told what to do.
If you point out the obvious to him, he'll go & do something else entirely.

Yeah, certainly last night that was the case. His dad was going mental at him in the corner, but then again....who really listens to their dad that often. When my dad used to go mad at me, I'd switch off and stand there waiting for him to calm down. He just wanted a tear-up in there, and he got it in spades.
You heard his dad in the corner go:
"Everything I've told ou so far, you've just gone and done exactly the opposite, you have to box this guy".

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...

You said Hopkins was two different ages in the same article ... wow, and you were saying who's an idiot? Give the fight time he just came off his fight so relax.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
People say Calzaghe rises to the occasion and thus his disappointing fight against Bika.....
...but Kessler rose to the occasion himself last night and flattened Beyer in 3.
My point is, don't nobody consider the shape Kessler would be in if he came to face Calzaghe?? he would be explosive - and at 27 is not even peaking - perhaps in 2007 he will be peaking whilst Joe begins decline.......... !
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Calzaghe has never been one to impress by fighting GREAT opponents but then again this is a sign of his era...Benn, Eubank, Watson, McClellan, Roy Jones, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Svenn Ottke, Daruisz Michalzweski, and so on never really hunkered down and fought any and all comers
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Otke dude??
since when his name should be even written with the others!

Taeth,
I said Kessler is an easier fight than a 50yr old Hopkins WOULD be... ie Hopkins would be still be tough to beat when he is 50.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
The fight for Joe C. money wise is with Hopkins or Jones. Kessler looked very impressive the other night however Beyer was a sitting duck, no head movement at all , the guy was made to order for any puncher. Kessler is High risk little reward. Kessler needs more exposure to build up the dollars. He looks to be a strong fighter. anyway that my thoughts ! O0

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
I agree with some of what you said Lords.
I don't agree with some of the other parts of what you said...so I think we might can spark up some thoughts on the matter...here goes...

Agreed. Money fights...in a big way! I honestly believe that Joe would eat Jones up...I go back & forth on how he'd do with Hopkins. Hopkins nullify's a lot of people's abilities with his jab & his defense.

Not to be a smart ass...but Kessler's looked that good in pretty much every fight. Beyer was a dead duck the moment the ink dried. Again, not being a smart ass...but a lot of people have seen too little of Kessler to pass a clear judgement.
Being a fan of Kessler doesn't equate to me being an expert on Kessler...but I can honestly say that I don't think there is anyone at 160-175lbs that could beat him outside of Calzaghe or Wright. Joe would have to be on point/focused & Wright would have to be able to handle the extra 8lbs.
Wright's defense would give Kess hell.

Totally disagree. Even me being a Yank...I can see the value here. First of all...unification...second...Calzaghe vs Kessler would generate a full fwockin stadium or two in Whales, Manchester, or some Danish joint! ;D

Again...kinda disagree...I still think Kess is already a cash machine & he's a superstar in his own country. Also...with a bit more publicity over this weekends 3rd round blast out of Beyer...you never know.
Man...I wish HBO woulda plugged that after the Calzaghe fight...woulda done wonders for Kess.

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
:coolclick: back Wacko . . America is where the dollars are in boxing. HBO PPV , its just the way it is. If you want to make the big bucks you need exposure in America. not saying that a Kessler - Calzaghe fight would not generate good money right now overseas , but it would not generate anywhere near the dollars that the MGM Grand Casino HBO PPV / SKY Calzaghe -vs- Roy Jones Jr, or Bernard Hopkins will generate. I think after Kessler has a few fights available for American public viewing. Kessler would bring about intrest in the American public and the $$$ would follow , He is obviously a very very good fighter Kessler looks very dangerous to me , he is tall and lean, a str8 puncher, as it stands right now , Kessler is a very high risk with the fraction of revenue potential of the other fighters mentioned above ! Just my observation ;)

Agreed. Good post.
Kessler is dangerous...but I truly believe that in the future...him dropping his hands & pausing on the back foot after he puches is gonna cost him.
Get some fights of his & watch. Mundine get's him with it two or three times a round it seems like...there again...the shots didn't really fwock with Kess even though they connected flush. ;D

Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Calzaghe is not a fukin idiot, I don't like him, but he's not an idiot. However he's not the unbeatable God that most Brits deem him to be. He had some definite trouble with Bika, who is not even ranked in the ring top 10. Bika won 4 rounds, and got his shots hin, wild and dirty as they may have been. Joe was whinin to the ref quite a bit too, some of it was warranted, but some wasn't. It was a so-so performance against average competition, which has been a pattern of Calzaghe's for a while, with Lacy and a few other fights being exceptions. HBO's commentating was bias and crap as usual, Kellerman stated Calzaghe was dominating the fight after less than 2 rounds were up. Too bad by the 12th he was holding on and had lost the round. Joe for sure won the fight, but it was hardly impressive, and he got busted up from the 168lb version of Carlos Maussa. And no Wacko, I don't think he would beat Jones or Hopkins, he'd have a better chance against Jones probably though.
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Joe was lucky that fella couldn't box.

I think the fact he couldn't box was Joe's biggest problem, because he abandoned his own boxing skills and tried to brawl. Had it been a boxing match, Joe would most likley hae reverted back to the jab and combinations and taken him to pieces.
One things the fight proves (not that it was in doubt) is that JC is a tuff Mofo, didn't take a backwards step, even after getting constantly butted and ruffed up.
Don't think Bika won 4 rounds Hulk!!! ;)
Much like Hatton, if JC doesn't back up his 1 really big win with something soon, I am really gonna lose patience with him
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
I disagree, all he needed to do was stick out the jab and backup, which he finally did in round 8. Instead to trying to out brawl and out muscle a big strong guy. Afterall it's up to you in impose your fight on the guy not get suckered in the other mand gameplan and certainly not sink down to their level.
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Joe clowned around until he got cut, then he smartened up. Every boxer is beatable, but Calzaghe has more than enough boxing skill to go around. It would take a 30 year old Bernard Hopkins, to even have a chance at defeating Calzaghe. Either that or a Calzaghe broken hand.
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Joe would destroy both so i dnt really think it matters who he fights nxt.
bt to see him beat b-hop would b gr8
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
I think Hopkins has the edge over both kessler and calzaghe, but both could conceivably win aswell. Kessler v Calzaghe is 50-50, and would probably as good as fight as we'd ever seen. Personally I'd rather see that.
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
I think being 34, having 42 fights and having really serious hand problems means that Calzaghe v Kessler would be mighty close!!
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
Just seeing how much variety Joe can bring to his game is testament to his experience in the ring.
I haven't seen a whole lot of either Joe or Kessler, but I think I'd rather see that fight than watch Joe outhustle Hopkins or Jones. I don't think Hopkins would be an easy fight for Joe, but I do think he'd win on activity alone.
Kessler looks strong, solid, and young. Joe's fast, strong, tough, and most of all - crafty. I think Joe would pull a hard decision.
But then again, you guys know more about these fighters than I do!!
-
Re: Calzaghe is a F****** idiot...
wasn't really impressed with his performance and he was hit repeatedly with B-Hop's favorite punch the over hand right, also wtf was up with all the cockiness in the first 3 rounds, he was getting tagged and wasn't really dominating yet he was dancing and clowning around like if he was the god of boxing
