Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
from www.fightnews.com :o
Superfighters announced!
Byrd, Peter, Brock, McCall, McCline, Bell, Gomez, Fields in elite field
By Karl Freitag
Eight elite heavyweights will collide on December 1 (December 2 at 11AM in Australia) for a $5 million first prize in the "Superfighter" tournament at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, Australia. The field includes Chris Byrd, Samuel Peter, Calvin Brock, Oliver McCall, Jameel McCline, O'Neal Bell, Juan Carlos Gomez and Tye Fields. Should any fighter drop out, Sinan Samil Sam is set to step in. Brock is commited to fighting in this event, even though he's challenging IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on November 11. The format will be a one-night, high-intensity heavyweight elimination tournament consisting of four three-minute rounds with only the winner of each bout advancing to the next round. To win the $5 million, the winner will have to defeat three opponents in one day. Total prize money is $6.5 million.
Fighters will use 12-ounce gloves and the wins and losses in the event will not count on the fighters' official records. Open scoring will be used with scores announced at the end of each round. Instant replay will be used by officials to resolve any controversies. The PPV price is $49.95. Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis will provide expert analyst for the PPV telecast. Organizers plan to hold other "Superfighter" events in other weight divisions.

================================================== =======
$5 million prize for the winner, and a fair number of big names. Sounds like a bit of fun, and a way to see some proper boxing stars in the ring together in my view. A bit like comparing 20:20 cricket to test cricket, they're different versions of the same sport, so don't be surprised to see some surprises in there. Good news, and hopefully it'll be free to air on sky in the middle of the night here in the UK.

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
They should really charge less if you have to put up with Lennox Lewis's commentating.
-
Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
this is the lennox lewis HW tournement thing?
-
Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
This would be far better as a battle royal.

Yup, Lennox is going to be there, grinning and yakking on. He's more like a butterfly of though than a train of thought, cause he tends to flutter atound in every direction, and never get nowhere.

No Holmes didn't involve himself in it. I think it was during one of his retirement spells.

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
Brock isn't involved now cause of the Wlad fight, let him out of the contract. I don't know who they're going to replace him with.

It's a bit strange that 2 days after it was released that Brock was tied in by contract, it now appears they've released him. Doesn't sound as if the organisation behind it is too good.

:coolclick: for the info on this...errrrrrrrrrrmmmmm...Superfight.
Honestly...I think that it's gonna be hampered by some piss poor organizing & in the end...I'd really be surprised if Byrd, Brock, or Peter showed. Peter & Brock are pretty much lined up for REAL super fights (STS) while Byrd on the other hand...well...I just aint so sure about Byrd anymore.
On the other hand McCall, McCline, Bell, Gomez, & Fields pretty much all have nothing on the front or nothing to lose by hoping into the hot seat on this one.

Peter needs to get out of it as well. Let the rest of those dummies do what they want... I think it's a waste of time for someone with the majority of their boxing life n front of them...

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
This is so crazy they're gonna make it all in one day. It's like K1.
The heavyweights are gonna be so dead after the first fight.
Other than that it sounds like an awesome idea.

A stab to try and bring back luster to a post-Lennox HW division.

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
Since when was the Lennox era any more exciting than it was now, as far as I know Lewis is the only fighter to have an opponent disqualified for holding, it takes 2 to hold ;D

Sheesh...i'm not too sure about that. I wonder if the cream of today's hw's can turn a 4 rounder into a snoozer as well as they do with the championship 12's

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
Bloody typical. So its four days since the line up for superfighter was confirmed. We heard that Calvin Brock was contractually obliged to be in the tournament. He dropped out. Now it was announced that Sam Peter knew nothing about the competition and was not taking part on www.fightnews.com.
Doesn't bode well does it?

Re: Superfight Confirmed! (I though it was dead and gone....)
Should be interesting, not as if the heavies is great fun atm isit! Hopefully sky will get hold of it.
There was me thinking Hatton vs Mayweather had been announced!!! :(
