Collazo's next opponent:change of opponent for Williams:M.Castillo surgery
Former welterweight titlist Luis Collazo's Nov. 4 opponent has been named. He will face Artur "Scar" Atadzhanov (10-3, 7 KOs) of Ukraine, according to Don King Productions. The bout -- which will be on the untelevised portion of the Showtime card headlined by heavyweight titlist Liakhovich making his first defense against Briggs -- will be the first for Collazo (26-2, 12 KOs) since he lost his belt on a close decision to Ricky Hatton in May. Also, former junior middleweight titlist Alejandro "Terra" Garcia, who was supposed to be on the card in his first bout since losing his belt in May to Jose Antonio Rivera, has withdrawn from the card.
Welterweight contender Paul "The Punisher" Williams, 25, has a new opponent for his showcase fight on the Nov. 4 Baldomir-Mayweather HBO PPV undercard. Williams (31-0, 23 KOs) will now face 34-year-old trial horse Mauro Lucero (42-11-1, 28 KOs), who has been stopped in eight of his 11 defeats. Few expect the scheduled 10-rounder to go more than a few rounds, and if that is the case, viewers will see the eight-rounder between unbeaten heavyweights Chris Arreola and Damian Wills on tape from earlier in the evening. Williams originally was scheduled to face equally soft Jacy Kuhn, but Kuhn is suspended because he signed a contract to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in September and didn't show up for the bout.
Former junior bantamweight champ Martin Castillo (30-2, 16 KOs), who lost his title to Nobuo Nashiro on July 22 in Japan when he was stopped on cuts in the 10th round, is scheduled for surgery Oct. 27, manager Frank Espinoza told ESPN.com. Castillo, who visited the doctor this week to decide when to have the surgery, has been susceptible to cuts throughout his career. He will have scar tissue removed from over his eyes and have part of the bone shaved down. Espinoza said Castillo should be ready to return to action in March or April

I like Williams fine but damn he's been brought up soft, took him 25 or 26 fights to step up to the level of Terrance Cauthen. That's impressive. Then Matthysee and shot Sharmba now this guy.

Seriously though, these are crap fights for both Williams and Collazo. They should both be fighting top 10 welters. I mean, if Collazo's not even fighting someone good enough to get him televised on a free showtime card, that's a problem.

Collazo's is almost worse since he's a proven guy, I mean should this fight even be sanctioned? And its not like this guy's replacing a good guy, he was supposed to fight Hercules Kyvelos whose record looks better, 24-2, but that dude is the worst 24-2 fighter I've ever seen. I guess a Collazo fan would say nobody wanted to fight him and he needed to keep busy, maybe their right. But gotta be somebody out there better than this.

Margarito's opposition hasn't been good, Collazo's has been maybe better with Hatton and Rivera although theres not much at all besides that, but at least he is fighting Clottey next, he got S*** on (rightfully so) for fighting Gomez, imagine the S*** he'd get for fighting a 10-3 guy. It would be out of this world S***.
I'm just surprised that more people don't comment on Williams' opposition, 31 fights and the best he's got is Cauthen, Matthysse and shot Sharmba.

He wasn't talking about Williams next opponent after Lucero. Kuhn was the guy Williams was originally supposed to face, and Lucero is the replacement. And Kuhn was "equally soft", got stopped by a 6-3 guy.

I feel for Collazo,he deserves a big match and he wanted the Hatton rematch bad! As for Williams,I'm massively dissappointed,for a guy with so many pro fights,his level of opposition is not very good and to go from Sharmba to this is a drop again especially considering all the top opposition out there at 147.

Not saying Collazo's not looking for a fight, I knew he wanted the Hatton rematch, my thing is just that can his management not find anybody more qualified than a 10-3 guy?

I don't think it's too big a deal... Activity is so underrated, since all people want to see is fighters tested... I mean if all goes well, Williams and Collazo will at least get the exposure from being on the card and will probably both look great. Theres no reason they both can't fight soon afterwords, what's the harm in showcasing two of the best welterweights in the world on the undercard of an undisputed welterweight championship fight..

I agree that it's exposure but it's a step backwards in terms of quality of opponent and I doubt Collazo will fight soon after,no one wants that guy. And although again,it's exposure,a guy against 10-3 and a 10 rounder is hardly ideal.

No question it is a step back, but so is nothing... I think when you have this kind of mismatch it really shouldn't even have any bearing on Collazo or WIlliams agenda, as in they could fight very soon afterwards against legitimate competition. PLus it's a chance to showcase themselves on the undercard to determine the WW champ.. You may be right that noone want's either of these guys.. Id like to hope there's a reason they are on the card though.

I hope you're right,I hope these are just to keep them in shape etc but with Collazo,I'm not sure and with Williams,I mean,I'd just like to see him step it up more,he's had quite a few pro fights now! I hope you're right though and that we see them in action again,sooner rather than later.

It wouldn't have been bad to see Collazo fight Williams, but that's probably not a fight that Collazo would have wanted. Instead, we get two stupid, pointless matchups. This is the crap that really pisses me off about boxing sometimes.
