This is one of the reasons that we do NOT trust the US....
A lot of boxing "experts" from the US are ranking Toney and RJJ on their all time greatest list of SMW - for Christ sakes! RJJ had about 5 or 6 fights at SMW and Toney 3 or 4 fights!

well they are some of the greatest super middles, its not how many they fought at smw but the fact that they made just about the only relevent fight at super middle in years when they fought, both undefeated and big stars and there hadnt been anything else going on for a while at super mid.
i mean really how many great fighters have theyr been at smw? this is what i can think of
rjj, toney, benn, eubank, collins, leonard, hearns, duran, iran barkley, michael nunn...
there might be a fair more but those are the obvious ones!
so imo i think roy and toney deserve a spot up there

benn was to fight roy if he had of got past malinga but he got taken by suprise and plus he never took the fight with roy and would have been ko'd if he fought roy after that because he was never the same after fighting gerald.

The only single good win Toney has at SMW is Iran Barkley - the only second time he met another live SMW (RJJ) he lost big time, so how the F*** can Toney be considered an all time great SMW? I guess that US lags of SMW champs so they find Toney a great SMW champ....

so what made eubank collins or benn any better then jones or toney..
jones had 7 fights at super middle and 6 of them were successful defences of his title. thats not exactly 2 or 3 like you said is it? and plus he fought fair competition like vini paz and toney, just like toney fought jones and barkley. its all about who they fought and if you look at them after that they moved to bigger and better things in theyr careers and been very successful. collins benn and eubanks careers cant compare to the careers of jones and toney. and have been going much longer then theyrs
so who did these three fight apart from eahcother? g man and thats about it.

Well, i dont know if this entirely correct but im sure that the SMW division has only been running for 15-20 years.
You may of not know that and so that is fair enough. The history of the SMW really is a knock on effect of the welterweighting 80's kings getting old (Leonard, Herans, Duran etc). It had developed through the 90's with many Light Middleweights and Middleweights moving up too (Nun, Jackson, Barkley, McCullum, Eubank, Benn and of course your favorites Toney & RJJ).
So you see apart form the odd couple of boxers since the late 90's (Ottke, Calzaghe, Cant think of any more) Theres not been any real SM Champs who have had a lenghty spell at SM (more than 5 years). So RJJ & Toney are more than suitable for all time status within the SMW division.
To argue otherwise is like arguing that Fabrice Tiozzo isnt an all time graet Cruiserweight.

how about we look at it another way... and we talk about who took the biggest shit in a particular toilet... roy jones and james toney took some of the biggest shits in the toilet that is the SMW division... they may have only shit once or twice compared to guys that shit in the same toilet hundreds of times... but their shits were still bigger than all the smaller shits.. no?

Home town decisions happen every where! Being an Aussie, i have seen our boxers ROBBED in England, America, Germany(heaps!), BUT i have also seen visitors ROBBED coming to our shores also. It sucks, It shouldnt happen, BUT it does. It is stupid to have a go at any particular country, when it is the judges and sometimes promotors who need the kick in the ARSE! Most REAL boxing fans cringe when bad decisions are given in their own backyard ???

And Toney, NOT even close, Toney was a bad man at SMW, one of the reasons he moved away from the division so fast was because noone wanted to fight him......Plus the big money was in the heavier divisions at the time....

Not sure why the entire US can't be trusted because RJJ is considered one of the best. True he didn't have many of the boxing skills, but he had blazing speed and amazing reflexes to make up for it. Unfortunately those are the first two things to go as people get older and for that we are witnessing the RJJ that we see now, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't great a SMW.

First, the "experts" were saying at that weight Rjj and JT were untouchable.

i believe some of them could give toney hell i mean toney did lose prolly 11 rounds or 10 rounds to jones plus toney was getting beat by nunn before he stopped him in 11th hell most people think mccallum derserved atleast 2 out of 3 fights vs toney i think couple of them would give toney hell

Yeah, Toney was good but his style isnt what it has been since the turn of the century.
IMO Jones n Toney were both struggling to make 168 so no way could they have stuck around anyway.
